신생아에서 발생한 선천성 후두개 낭종 1례 (A Case of Congenital Epiglottic Cyst in Neonate)

  • Congenital epiglottic cyst is rare cause of stridor in neonate and if managed inadequately, disaster such as death can occur. Diagnosis of congenital epiglottic cyst includes imaging studies and endoscopy. Fiberoptic or rigid endoscopic examination excludes other causes of stridor in neonate. Complete excision of cyst is treatment of choice under suspension laryngoscopic guidance. Here, we report a case of congenital epiglottic cyst and concomitant laryngomalacia presenting with seizure and respiratory difficulty in neonate with a review of literature.

고령화사회대비 노인안전사고 예방방안 (Prevention for the elderly safety issues to prepare for an aged society)

  • The usual reasons for elderly safety accidents include lack of care for disaster, physical disability, and an error of judgment and so on. But it is true that accidents will occur continuously with the afore-mentioned causes. Against the elderly safety accidents, safety is the main prerequisite for leading the successful and easy life in the elderly. Therefore, this study is purposed to provide the way of thinking about elderly safety issues by suggesting the methods and contents of education program. This study is specifically focused on developing audio-visual materials involved in all the safety accidents and researching the effect of safety education ability through materials with a view to identify the substantial problems. Education program should make a continuous and long term study so that the curricula of the safety accidents prevention education can be done systematically.

  • If industrial safety statistics are analyzed, among the total of 2,114 dead people from industrial disasters in 2011, construction workers took 29.4% with 621. The construction industry makes a lot of efforts to reduce the death toll. However, since the measures are not from the analysis of root causes but from superficial countermeasure plans near general matters, it is in a situation that the actual effectiveness is marginal. Therefore, in this paper, improvement measures were intended to be prepared in order to reduce accidents, by inspecting safety control systems of target companies with high accident rates among major construction firms and extracting overall problems of them.

소방용 공기호흡기 착용에 따른 신체반응 (Physical Response of Human Body Wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus)

  • 본 연구는 소방공무원이 착용하는 소방용 공기호흡기(SCBA)가 신체에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 소방공무원의 안전을 위한 기초자료 제공을 목적으로 한다. 연구결과 소방용 공기호흡기를 착용한 경우가 반바지를 입은 경우보다 평균피부온도(7 %), 심박수(28 %), 운동자각도(65.4 %), 대사당량(70.7 %) 등이 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타났으며(p<.05), 호흡수는 유의하지 않았다. 이상의 연구결과 소방용 공기호흡기의 착용은 신체에 과중한 부담을 미치는 것으로 판단된다.

  • This paper briefly reviews our knowledge concerning the potential health risk of smog. It includes a review of the meteorological phenomenon, the causes of death in different age groups from London smog which occurred during the week of December 5, 6, 7, 8, 1952. During the London disaster, which caused 4,000 excess human deaths, it was deternimed the meteorological factors of almost absence of wind, low temperature, high humidity and an inversion. Hence, at ground level of air pollutants were suddenly increased and attributed to the combined action of a particulate matter with sulfur dioxide. As a result, abnormally large numbers of persons died especially, those individuals already suffering from disease of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

복부 손상을 동반한 흉부손상 환자의 외과적 치료 (Surgical Treatment of Thoracic Injuries Combined with Abdominal Injuries)

  • Recently, the trauma patients have been markedly increasing due to the vast increase of traffic accident, industrial disaster, incidental accident and violence. The authors have analysed of 22 patients of thoracic injuries combined with abdominal injuries and summarized as follows. The ratio of male to female was 3.4:1 and their age distribution was from 5 years to 68 years and mean age was 34.4 years. The etiologies of injury were traffic accident, stab wound, fall down and violence. Associated injuries were fractures, bowel perforation, kidney rupture, head injury, liver laceration, spleen rupture and so forth. The modes of treatment were closed thoracostomy, repair of diaphragm, ruptured bowel repair, explo-thoracotomy, splenectomy, hepatic lobectomy in this order of frequency. The postoperative complications were atelectasis, wound infection, pneumonia, empyema, acute renal failure, respiratory failure and bleeding. The mortality rate was 13.6% [3/22 and the causes of death were respiratory failure 1 case, acute renal failure 1 case and hypovolemic shock 1 case.

  • Multiple people using places are being managed to prevent disasters by the special law for safety supervising of multiple people using spots. The KESCO is managing the places through intensification of inspection. Perfect safety is not insured by frequencyinspections because disaster symptoms in electrical facilities include invisible faults. Especially, entertainment spots, such as entertainment bars and karaoke bars, are different from other multiple people using places, and active reaction to prevent electrical fires is impossible. Therefore, special protection plans to prevent electrical disasters are needed. In this paper, equipments of entertainment spots were researched, and their electrical characteristics were analyzed. The function for detecting aloose terminal, which is one of the main causes of electrical fires, was developed.

  • When the current flows over the allowable current due to the overload, it causes electric disaster such as an electrical fire and an electric shock by short current or leakage of electricity because the covering is deteriorated according to the heating action. In this paper, for the wire(IV 1.6mm) used as interior wiring, we analyzed a variation of the surroundings temperature, the form and the structure of a covering, and the crystal structure of a conductor. In the result of this experiment, the surroundings temperature at the allowable current of 300% rose to about 47$^{\circ}C$, and it rose up to the maximum allowable temperature of the wire at 400%. Consequently, it was broken within one minute at 500%. In the analysis of a metallograph, the conductor broken by the over current showed the dendrite. These analyses result will be applied to judging the electrical fire.

  • There are many methods to move or reduce the static electricity which often causes disasters in Industry, etc. The methods may Include grounding of a potentially-charged body, use of antistatic materials, humidification of an atmosphere, use of static electricity eliminators. Among those methods, the one utilizing antistatic materials is widely used in the industrial fields due to its effectiveness and inexpectiveness. In Korea, safety regulations and technical standards are not sufficient for applying to industrial fields as electrostatic disaster prevention measures due to the shortage of practically verified and reliable data. The propose of this paper is to examine the electrostatic characteristics of the antistatic materials and non-antistatic ordinary materials under the various conditions of different temperature and humidity.

  • An interest in deep-sea measurements has been gradually increased in association with global warming and the need for deep-sea resources development. Long-term mooring of current meters has been recently conducted primarily for these purposes. In general, current meters equipped on a mooring line are deployed and recovered for a planned period in the sea. This paper describes all the preparations for deep-sea mooring. It also reviews the possible causes of the failures of recovery, which occasionally happens in the sea.
