To investigate the effects of self-management programs for chronic low back pain (LBP), 63 subjects were assigned to three groups; self-exercise group (SEG), hot pack and low-frequency electrical stimulation group (HEG), and thermo-massage group (TMG). Parameters were the pain numeric rating scale (PNRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and Relapse frequency (RF). PNRS, ODI and RMDQ of SEG and TMG sustained effectiveness, however, PNRS, which improved after treatment in HEG, worsened in 6 month. Between the groups, all parameters were better in SEG and TMG compare to HEG. Exercise and thermo-massage can be considered as useful self-management performed at home to prevent the relapse of chronic LBP.

Cigarette smoking is one of the major causes of preventable diseases, disability, and death in Korea and worldwide. It has been clearly linked to the most common causes of death among the elderly and contributes to morbidity and disability associated with many chronic illnesses that are common in this age group. The health benefits of smoking cessation for the elderly have been clearly demonstrated. However, few studies have analyzed the relationship between health and smoking by considering the following many factors, especially among disabled people. In this study, we discuss the impacts of many factors on smoking among disabled people. Adults with disabilities are more likely to smoke than their peers. Public health agencies and practitioners should consider what reasonable adjustments may need to be made to policies and interventions to ensure that they are effective for adults with disabilities.

The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to help individuals with disabilities in single-person households maintain a happy life by analyzing how interpersonal skills necessary for community adaptation and self-esteem, which are personal factors, affect life satisfaction. The self-esteem mediation effect was verified with SPSS Process Macro 4.3 using data on 828 single-person households sourced from the seventh wave of the Disability Employment Panel Survey(2022) conducted by the Employment Development Institute of the Korea Disability Employment Service. To examine the effects of interpersonal skills and self-esteem on life satisfaction, a multiple regression analysis was conducted. While it was found that higher self-esteem was associated with higher life satisfaction, interpersonal skills did not have a significant effect on this association. The path from interpersonal skills to life satisfaction via self-esteem was deemed statistically significant, suggesting that self-esteem mediates the relationship between interpersonal skills and life satisfaction. This study emphasizes the importance of interpersonal relationships for the life satisfaction of individuals with disabilities in single-person households in a modern society in which the problem of social isolation experienced by individuals in single-person households is emerging. Furthermore, it provides a direction for these individuals to become the main actors of their own lives.

The purpose of this study was to review various grounds and plans for the establishment of a convergence major in lifelong education for the disabled based on Daegu University, which establishes its status and identity as a base university for education and welfare for the disabled. Lifelong education for the disabled reflects the specificity of disability in common because it targets disabled learners, but since it constitutes two perspectives and characteristics of education and welfare, access to interdisciplinary convergence research in disabled-related fields is important. In the above dimension, Daegu University has an appropriate foundation to lead lifelong education for the disabled in Korea through various academic and practice-based infrastructures, and has sufficient leadership to improve the practical limitations of the lifelong education support system for the disabled. Accordingly, this study presented measures and related grounds to reflect lifelong education for the disabled in order to establish an interdisciplinary convergence major at Daegu University through literature review and expert advice. It was emphasized that lifelong education for the disabled, viewed as a new interdisciplinary convergence major, should be activated through professional competencies commonly accessible to the three fields rather than applied from a priority perspective between special education, rehabilitation science, and social welfare. As a result of the study, it was suggested that Korea, which failed to establish a lifelong education support system for the disabled, should gradually spread and spread to other universities starting with Daegu University's application model and plan. In addition, the necessity of systematically establishing a qualification development path for lifelong education professionals for the disabled through agreement between the three fields was also suggested.
This study was purposed to find health promotion and care needs of the elderly in rural area of Korea. As the rural elderly are limited in accessibility to health care resources and could not immediately solve their health care needs when they need. health promotion and care services are expected to bring better and more practical solutions of their health care needs. Thus, the type of health care services to be developed in Korea rural area is discussed to have emphasis on health care service component in addition to health promoting components. Methods of this study was based on survey data analysis : total 322 persons aged older than 55 living at one 'Kun' in Korea administrative unit were interviewed by health workers working at the region and also get trained for this study data collection. The data collection interview was continued from February till May in 1996. The interview questions were modified with adjustment to Korea situation. with basis of the WHO's health promotion program components. The collected data were analyzed using SAS program for frequency, correlation, regressions. The major findings were as follows : (1) $74.8\%$ of the surveyed were sick at the survey time point. and $95.9\%$ known the diagnosis name of the disease. The most frequently complained diseases were Muscular-Skeletal diseases $(43.7\%)$. $34\%$ of those sick had never treated or discontinued therapeutic procedures. so that shown the necessity of systematic and usual health care services with health promotion program development for the elderly. (2) The percent of those who make social participation was $95.3\%$. and the activities were visiting neighbors $(70.4\%)$ and lack of qualified social activity programs. (3) $78.1\%$ of the surveyed had health counseling and education from professional health workers. Those ceased smoking and drinking were $59.6\%,\; 60.3\%$. respectively. Those had no application of therapeutic drugs or nutrion supplements was $40.7\%\;and\;94.1\%$ had regular meals. Those practiced exercises was low remarking $17.7\%$. (4) Positive health behaviors were better carried out by sick groups than by the healthier. except smoking. regular meals. and exercise. $17.5\%$ of sick group smoke more than one case of cigarettes. in contrast to $9.5\%$ of the healthier. (5) Mental health status was heathier among positive health behavior earners. Health counseling and education shown better score of mental health than those never counseled. (6) Positive health behavior practice frequency did not show significant differences when crossed by social activity participation status. The ultimate goal of rehabilitation is social integration. Reemployment is, for the disabled workers, the primary source of not only income, but also identity and interaction. Unfortunately, for most disabled workers employment represents only a yet-to-be-fulfilled hope, a close but inaccessible goal, a daily reminder that they are not among the majority. The purpose of this study is to estimate reemployment rate in the industrial injured and to find factors affecting reemployment of disabled workers owing to industrial injury, and to make policy implication for the better industrial injury compensation rehabilitation system. The data were obtained through telephone interview with disabled worker who completed work injury compensation process in 1996-1997. The final sample was consisted of 1,060 respondents. The major findings were that almost lout of 3 disabled worker returned to work, and that the factor affecting reemployment of the disabled workers were severity injury, ADL(activity of Daily Living), the perception of disability severity, controlling for the demographic factors such as sex, age, education, marital status. The results indicated that psychosocial factors as well as physical function had influces on returning to work. The current findings suggests that rehabilitation services and policy aimed at enhancing vocational rehabilitation program and rehabilitation engineering services, and improving psychosocial resources should be considered by rehabilitation professionals and policy makers.
