The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between care strain and depression among mothers of child with developmental disability and to verify the moderating effect of resilience in the relationship between these two variables. The participants was 200 mothers of children with developmental disabilities using programs related to developmental disability of 15 community welfare centers in Gyeonggi province. Major findings are as follows. First, 15% of mothers of child with developmental disabilities were depression risk group. Second, mother's strain were associated with depression and the resilience moderated the relationship between care strain and depression. Based on these findings, it is suggested that policy makers and practitioners should expand intervention program not only for alleviating care strain but also improving mother's resilience to prevent depression of mothers with children developmental disabilities.
Purpose: This study compares and examines the effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) on patients with chronic low back pain through systematic literature review and meta-analysis. Methods: Domestic literature was searched with combinations of keywords including "proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation," "PNF," "back pain," and "low back pain" using the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS), and Korean Medical Database (KMbase). Six studies (n=148) were finally included in the analysis through a selection and exclusion process. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the PEDro scale. Results: According to the meta-analysis results, the low back pains of the PNF group and the contrast group showed a standardized mean difference (SMD) of 2.21 (95% CI: -3.35, -1.07, p=0.01, $I^2=83%$) after intervention. Thus, the PNF group showed a statistically significant decrease in low back pain compared with the control group. In addition, the SMDs of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), lung function, and the Roland and Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) were -1.34 (95% CI: -1.88, -0.79, p<0.01, $I^2=35%$), 1.14 (95% CI: 0.49, 1.79, p=0.01, $I^2=0%$), and -1.59 (95% CI: -2.56, -0.62, p=0.01, $I^2=46%$), respectively. Thus, the PNF group showed statistically significant differences from the control group. Conclusion: At present, there is some limit to obtaining definite results about effect sizes because there are relatively few randomized controlled experiments that analyze the effects of PNF exercise in patients with chronic low back pain. Therefore, continuous efforts should be made to conduct randomized clinical trials and long-term efficacy studies in the future.

For women living with mental illness, motherhood may be a normalizing life experiences and offers the opportunity to develop competencies in a major life roles. So, the main premise of this study that social contexts, social support of spouse and extended family, is very important for successful parenting of mothers with mental illness. Thus this study analyzes the impact of marital relationship and social support of networks on three dimensions of parenting competency(expression of love, encouragement of independence, rational discipline) when the socioeconomic(age, number of offsprings, subjective economic level) and disability variables(diagnosis, severity of symptoms, chronicity, frequencies of psychiatric admission) are controlled. This study conducted the survey with 145 mothers with schizophrenia and mood disorder. The major finding of the study are : i) Using step-wise multiple regression, marital relationship, social supports and economic level affect significantly on the expression of love. ii) Using step-wise multiple regression, the most powerful influenced factor on encouragement of independence is marital relationship. iii) Using step-wise multiple regression, diagnosis, severity of symptoms, chronicity and economic level affect significantly on the rational discipline. That is two dimensions of parenting competency, expression of love and encouragement of independence, can be explained well by social contexts variables(marital relationship, social support, economic level). But only rational discipline can be explain well by disability factors. In conclusion, this study recommends service providers to use family based comprehensive case management for the mothers with mental illness.
