  • The purpose of this study were to develop VR-based cooking serious game(VR-Cook) for students with intellectual disabilities and to validate effectiveness. The VR-Cook was developed using the ASSURE model. Twenty students with intellectual disabilities were participated to verify effectiveness. Ten students were assigned to the experimental group and the others to the control group. The control group received traditional interventions, and the experimental group participated in the intervention combining traditional intervention with VR-Cook. Evaluations were made at three times, and evaluation data were analyzed with repeated two-way ANOVA. The experimental group has improved more than control group in cooking activities and class attitudes.

Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: The study subjects are 29 elders with chronic shoulder pain aged over 65-year-old who reside in the rural area (experimental group: 14 elders and control group: 15). The elderly people in the experimental group were asked to perform shoulder stabilization exercise 60 minutes per one time for 4 weeks and three times in a week and the others in the control group were asked to receive education related to pain management for the initial one time. Before and after the experiment, we measured the subjects' muscle activity of upper trapezius, serratus anterior and the lower trapezius. In addition, SPADI is measured through the questionnaire. Results: Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in the muscle activity of the three muscles (upper trapezius, serratus anterior, lower trapezius), and SPADI. Conclusions: It is found that shoulder stabilization exercise is effective in muscleactivity, pain and ability of the elderly people through tele-rehabilitation service. This study should be used for improving the quality of the elderly people's lives through active tele-rehabilitation service for areas where have poor medical benefits.

  • Objectives: In modern society, many people have low back pain (LBP) and spinal diseases. About 80% of them experience severe LBP more than once in their lifetime. We can find studies on many Korean medicine-based treatments, such as acupuncture treatment for LBP and exercise therapy, which are effective in reducing the symptoms. This study focuses on the combined effect of both Korean medicine and exercise therapy for treating LBP. Method: For this review, we searched for articles focusing on pain and disability recovery in pre-clinical and clinical studies of extension and flexion exercise therapy related to LBP. The search databases were as follows: PubMed, Google Scholar, and seven Korean electronic databases (Korea Citation Index (KCI), Korean studies Information Service System (KISS), Research Information Service System (RISS), Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS), DBPIA, National Digital Science Library (NDSL), and KOREAMED). The keywords were as follows: Korean Medicine, back pain, flexion exercise, extension exercise, McKenzie method, McKenzie exercise, Williams' flexion exercise, and Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. Results & Conclusions: This review shows the usefulness of flexion and extension exercises for LBP treatment and effective patient education, but further studies are necessary.

  • This study provides basic data when planning nutrition support for healthy aging by revealing the relationship between various symptoms in the elderly and nutrient intake. From the 8th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, data from senior citizens aged 65 years or older in 2021 were used, and answers on the depression prevalence, activity restrictions, complaints of discomfort when chewing, and nutrient intake were analyzed through SPSS multiple logistic regression analysis. In the case of depression, there was a significant effect on the intake of four of the 20 nutrients (water, protein, cholesterol, and vitamin E). When experiencing activity restrictions, the intake of eight of the 20 nutrients (phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, beta-carotene, retinol, thiamine, and niacin) was affected. When experiencing chewing discomfort, the intake of three of the 20 nutrients (fat, magnesium, and vitamin E) was affected. Elderly people who suffer from depression, activity restrictions, and discomfort with chewing are at risk of various nutrient deficiencies, and related studies need to be conducted.

Research question: Fringe benefits are one of the major factors in compensation that play a vital role in employee satisfaction. However, the issue has yet to be taken into consideration in the industrial units. So, the question arises: what is the present condition of employee fringe benefits in industrial estates? Research design, data, and methods: To conduct this mixed-methods research, a total of 222 respondents were selected randomly from employees and entrepreneurs. Two sets of self-administered questionnaires and KIIs were used to collect primary data, while SPSS was used to analyze the data. Major findings and conclusions: The study shows that the conditions of leave and holidays do not comply with labor laws. Further, aspects of maternity leaves, disability/death benefits, retirement benefits, and other financial and non-financial benefits are found not to be at a satisfactory level and do not comply with the existing labor laws. However, the benefits relating to environmental issues are found to be satisfactory. It is expected that the study findings will contribute to the existing literature related to fringe benefits and will help stakeholders and policymakers in formulating and monitoring compensation packages.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a motivation-strengthening obesity management program for obese subjects with visual impairment and evaluate its effects. Methods: The program development and evaluation periods were from March to August 2018. The study design was an experimental study of non-equality, control repeat design. 25 subjects in the experimental group participated in the 12-week obesity management program and the 26 people in the control group did not. Results: The motivation-strengthening obesity management program included stretching exercises for 30 minutes in the morning five times a week. In addition, counseling, education, and group discussions were continued once a week for motivational strengthening. Special custom exercises for blind patients were also completed once a week simultaneously. Both of these activities were continued for 50 minutes a week for a total of 12 weeks. Measurements were recorded periodically to identify the sustained effects of the program. The obese subjects with visual impairment improved their knowledge of obesity, perceived disability, self-efficacy of exercise, and quality of life related to obesity through the motivational obesity management program. Waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting blood sugar were also improved in obese subjects. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that this program could be an active intervention for the control of weight gain in participants with visual impairment. Therefore, the motivation-strengthening program based on the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation& Evaluation) model could be an effective strategy for better health outcomes of obese subjects with visual impairment.

For these purposes, this study made use of the phenomenological analysis and approach with a qualitative research method. The subjects of this study are 4 mothers rearing children with Down syndrome who are beyond school age. The results were as follows. First, the reason why mothers with Down syndrome children went through psychological shock and horror was the social stigma due to the unusual appearance of children with Down syndrome. Second, the isolation with in the public education system was disclosed as a factor causing much sorrow and pain. Through this, we can recognize the importance of ensuring the equal right to receive education of children with Down syndrome. Third, the period which the mother experienced most shock and confusion was right after finding out about the disability that her child has. So, we can identify the importance of early intervention providing psychotherapy and rearing service to the parents. Fourth, the crucial factor that relieved pain and pressure from mothers was social support including family. Therefore, the social support system for mothers with Down syndrome children has to be developed and strengthened. Fifth, the crucial factor that made mother grow up during rearing experience was the reestablishment of cognition about the desired role of mothers. Through this, we can identify the importance of the mental transition process to independent thinking.
