  • This study intended arousal of other viewpoints that deal with and understand spaces and shapes, by describing the concept of 'dimensions' into visual patterns. Above all, the core concept of spatial dimensions was defined as 'expandability'. Then, first, the 'golden ratio', 'Fibonacci sequence', and 'fractal theory' were defined as elements of each dimension by stage. Second, a 'unit cell' of one dimension as 'minimum unit particles' was set. Next, Fibonacci sequence was set as an extended concept into two dimensions. Expansion into three dimensions was applied to the concept of 'self-similarity repetition' of 'Fractal'. In 'fractal dimension', the concept of 'regularity of irregularity' was set as a core attribute. Plus, Platonic solids were applied as a background concept of the setting of the 'unit cell' from the viewpoint of 'minimum unit particles'. Third, while 'characteristic patterns' which are shown in the courses of 'expansion' of each dimension were embodied for the visual expression forms of dimensions, expansion forms of dimensions are based on the premise of volume, directional nature, and concept of axes. Expressed shapes of each dimension are shown into visually diverse patterns and unexpected formative aspects, along with the expression of relative blank spaces originated from dualism. On the basis of these results, the 'unit cell' that is set as a concept of theoretical factor can be defined as a minimum factor of a basic algorism caused by other purpose. In here, by applying diverse pattern types, the fact that meaning spaces, shapes, and dimensions can be extracted was suggested.

  • Many signal processing methods of widening the sound image for spatial impression have been studied. Most typical methods of widening the sound image are related to the phase shifting and precedence effect. However, these methods are not effective in center sound image. As listener's position moves from center to outside, the center sound image is shifted to the speaker. That is to say, the directional localization of center sound image is unstable. In this paper, we propose a television audio system including center speaker, and analyze the role of center speaker using theory of Makida and precedence effect. In experiments, we confirm the usefulness of the center speaker for the stability of center sound image.

  • The distance join has been introduced previously, which finds nearest pairs in the order of distance incrementally among two spatial data sets built with multidimensional indexes like R-trees. We propose efficient K-distance joins when the number(K) of pairs to find is preset. Especially, we develop a distance join algorithm with bi-directional expansion and optimized plane sweeping using selection method of sweep axis and direction. The experiments on real spatial data sets show that the proposed algorithm is much better than the former algorithms.

  • An analytical model for predicting the convection-diffusion of solute dumped in a homogeneous open sea of constant water depth has been developed in a time-integral form. The model incorporates spatially uniform, uni-directional, mean and oscillatory currents for horizontal convection, the settling velocity for the vertical convection, and the anisotropic turbulent diffusion. Two transformations were introduced to reduce the convection-diffusion equation to the Fickian type diffusion equation, and then the Galerkin method was then applied via the expansion of eigenfunctions over the water column derived from the Sturm-Liouville problem. A series of calculations has been performed to demonstrate the applicability of the model.

  • An axisymmetric supersonic jet is simulated at a Mach number 2.1 and a Reynolds numberof 70000 to identify the mechanism of Mach wave generation and radiation from the jet. In orderto provide the near-field radiated sound directly and resolve the large-scale vortices highly.high-resolution essentially non-oscillatory(ENO) scheme, which is one of the ComputationalAeroAcoustics(CAA) techniques, is newly employed. Perfectly expanded supersonic jet is selectedas a target to see pure shear layer growth and Mach wave radiation without effect of change injet cross section due to expansion or shock wave generated at nozzle exit. The sound field ishighly directional and dominated by Mach waves generated near the end of potential core. Thenear field sound pressure levels as well as the aerodynamic properties of the jet, such asmean-flow parameters are in fare agreement with experimental data.

  • Internet privacy is named as one of the major barriers to the expansion and further development of e-commerce. This study is to identify the antecedents to Internet privacy concerns, to investigate the relationship of the antecedents and the perceived trust and to validate Internet privacy's effect on the perceived trust. A conceptual model which identifies Internet literacy and perceived vulnerability as antecedents to Internet privacy concern is proposed and tested based on the sample of 276 Internet users. Empirical findings show that Internet literacy affect Internet privacy concern negatively while perceived vulnerability affect positively. Also perceived vulnerability's effect on and privacy concern's effect on perceived trust has both directional negative support. Implications and further research agenda are provided with the limitation of the study.

  • With the expansion of Internet, a variety of image databases are widely used and it is needed to select the part of an image what he wants. In contents-based image retrieval system, Zernikie moment and ART Descriptors are used fur shape descriptors in MPEC-7. This paper presents a fast computation method to determine the radius of a bounding circle that encloses an object in a binary image. With conventional methods, the whole area of the image should be scanned first and the distance from every pixel to the center point be computed. The proposed 4-directional scan method and fast circle-drawing algorithm is utilized to minimize the scanning area and reduce the number of operations fur computing the distance. Experimental results show that proposed method saves the computation time to determine the radius of a bounding circle efficiently.

  • The volumetric efficiency is significantly affected by the behavior of pressure wave in induction system and exhaust pipe. By the motion of the piston, there exist pressure fluctuation in induction system which produce waves. Waves are propagated along a pipe bi-directional as they propagated through it, making compression wave and rare-faction(expansion) wave. These wave phenomena can affect to the volumetric efficiency. As a method of improvement of the volumetric efficiency, fuel economy and pollutant emission reduction particularly in low engine speeds, a side-branch additional tunable helmholtz resonator on the secondary pipe of intake system is proposed by use of their acoustic vibrations. Some of results are presented which deal with their physical phenomena for the wave action of intake system in a four-stroke three cylinders diesel engine.

  • The wave interaction with flexible membrane such as PVC and fabrics is studied to prove its applicability to portable breakwaters. To obtain the wave exciting force acting on flexible membrane, eigen-function expansion method is employed. The effect of flexible is involved in body boundary condition in which x-directional displacement of membrane is obtained by solving the linear membrane equation. Displacement of membrane is assumed to be small compared to wavelength, therefore the tensile force of membrane remains constant. As the numerical examples, transmission and reflection coefficients according to the change of tensile forces are investigated. The hydrodynamic force on membrane, the dynamic tension in the mooring lines and the vertical displacement profile of membrane are also calculated. It is suggested that the flexible membrane can be used to engineering material for the future coastal/ocean applications.

  • A new tunnel auxiliary method is proposed in this paper which utilizes the concept of cavity expansion for tuunel reinforcement by forming an umbrella arch on the roof of tunnel. When an inflatable pipe is inserted and expanded by pressure in the bore hole of umbrella arch, the ground around the bore hole can be compacted so that the stress condition above the tunnel perimeter is favorably changed. In order to verify the reinforcement effect of new concept, pilot-scale chamber test, trapdoor test and numerical analysis were performed and compared. In pilot-scale chamber test, three types of inflatable pipes are tested to verify the capability of expansion, and the results arc compared with analytical results obtained by applying cavity expansion theory and with results obtained from finite clement analysis, and the experimental results showed agreeable matches with analytical and numerical ones. Numerical analysis of a tunnel and trapdoor test applied with the inflatable pipes are also performed to figure out the reinforcement effect of the proposed techniques, and the results implied that the new method with 3 directional inflatable pipe (no pressure to downward direction) can contribute to reduce tunnel convergence and face settlement.
