Shear keys in precast concrete segmental bridges (PCSBs) are usually match-casting which is very labour intensive. In this research, an innovative match-casting-free construction was proposed by leaving small gap between the convex and the concave castellated shear keys in the joints of PCSBs. Specimen experiment, shear strength analysis and numerical simulation were conducted, investigating the loading performance of this new type of dry joints, the gap dry joints. Compared with match-casting joint specimens, it has been found from experiment that shear capacity of gap joint specimens significantly decreased ranging from 17.75% to 42.43% due to only partially constrained and contacted in case of gap dry joints. Through numerical simulation, the effects of bottom contacting location, the heights of the gap and the shear key base were analyzed to investigate strength reduction and methods to enhance shear capacity of gap joint specimens. Numerical results proved that shear capacity of gap dry joints under full contact condition was higher than that under partial contact. In addition, left contact destroyed the integrity of shear keys, resulting in significant strength reduction. Larger shear key base remarkably increased shear capacity of the gap joint. Experimental tests indicated that AASHTO provision underestimated shear capacity of the match-casting dry joint specimens, while the numerical results for the gap dry joint showed that AASHTO provision underestimated shear capacity of full contact specimens, but overestimated that of left contact specimens.

A new reconfigurable model following flight control method based on direct adaptive scheme is presented. Using the timescale separation principle, both the inner-loop and the outer-loop states are controlled simultaneously. For the timescale separation assumption to be satisfied, the inner-loop model dynamics is set to be fast whereas the outer-loop model dynamics is set to be relatively slow. The stability and convergence of the proposed control law is proved by Lyapunov theorem. One of the merits of the proposed reconfigurable controller is that the FDI process and the persistent input excitation are not necessary, which is suitable for the flight control system. To evaluate the reconfiguration performance of the proposed control method, numerical simulation is performed using six degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamics.
The electrodynamic loudspeakers should have a wide dynamic range to reproduce various sound levels. When the input signal is small, the radiated sound from the loudspeaker is not so much distorted. However, for large input signal with low frequency component the radiated sound is significantly distorted due to the nonlinearities of the loudspeaker. The suspension, damping, and magnetic flux of loudspeaker are the main sources of the nonlinearity. Such electromechanical parameters related to harmonic distortion have been represented by a polynomial model for diaphragm displacement, while each of the polynomial coefficient is evaluated by using the principle of harmonic balance experimentally. Based on the polynomial model, we designed a compensator for nonlinear harmonic distortion of direct radiator loudspeaker. Than observer is used to estimate the displacement of the loudspeaker diaphragm, which is rather difficult to measure directly in the conventional setting. The usefulness of the designed compensator is demonstrated by numerical simulations. Simulation results show about 30db decrease at the second and third higher harmonic distortions. We carry out an experiment on speaker to verify designed controller and nonlinear observer.

The present paper reports high-fidelity simulation of direct initiation processes of cylindrical detonation waves by concentrated energy deposition. The goal is to understand the underpinning mechanisms in failed or successful detonation initiation processes. We employed the Space-Time CESE method to solve the reacting flow equations, including realistic finite-rate chemistry model of the nine species and twenty-four reactions for H$_2$-O$_2$-Ar mixtures. Detailed results of sub-critical, critical. and supercritical initiation process are reported.

This paper presents an improved group of energy functions reflecting generator damping effects for multi-machine power systems by using Center of Inertia (COI) formulation as an extension of the previous work. Since rotor angles at the Stable Equilibrium Point (SEP) of post-fault systems are generally calculated in COI, system transient energy can be found without assumption of infinite or slack bus, which is a crucial drawback of the absolute rotor angle frame approach. The developed energy functions have a structure preserving property with which it is very flexible to incorporate various models of power system components, especially various load and generator models. The proposed damping-reflected energy functions are applied to the Potential Energy Boundary Surface (PEBS) method, one of the direct methods. Numerical simulation of WSCC 9-bus shows that conservativeness of the PEBS method can be considerably reduced.
The present study deals with a numerical simulation for the transport phenomena in three configurations of Membrane Distillation (Air Gap, Direct Contact and Sweeping Gas Membrane Distillation) usually used for desalination in order to make an objective comparison between them under the same operating conditions. The models are based on the conservation equations for the mass, momentum, energy and species within the feed saline and cooling solutions as well as on the mass and energy balances on the membrane sides. The theoretical model was validated with available data and was found in good agreement. DCMD configuration provided the highest pure water production while SGMD shows the highest thermal efficiency. Process parameters' impact on each configuration are also presented and discussed.
This paper proposes a novel direct power control (DPC) strategy for neutral-point-clamped (NPC) three-level rectifiers, to directly control the active power, the reactive power and the neutral point potential of the rectifiers by referring to three pre-calculated vector influence tables and minimizing an objective function. In the three vector influence tables, the influences of different voltage vectors on the active power, the reactive power and the neutral-point potential are shown explicitly. A conceptual description and control algorithm of the proposed controller are presented in this paper. Then, numerical simulations and experiments are carried out to validate the proposed method. Both the simulation and experimental results show that good performances during both the steady-state and transient operating conditions are achieved. As a result, the proposed strategy has been proven to be effective for NPC three-level rectifiers.
Gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine has a high thermal efficiency, but it has a problem to increase carbon emissions such as soot and $CO_x$. In this study, the objective is to analyze numerically a problem for adding the hydrogen during the intake stroke so as to reduce the injected amount of gasoline in GDI engines. For selection of the base model, the cylinder pressure of simulation is matched to experimental data. The numerical analysis are carried out by a CFD model with the hydrogen addition of 2%, 3% and 4% on the volume basis. In the case of 3% hydrogen addition, the injected gasoline amount is only changed to match the maximum pressure of simulation to that of the base model for additional study. It is found that the combustion temperature and pressure increase with the hydrogen addition. And NO emission also increases because of the higher combustion temperature. $CO_x$ emissions, however, are reduced due to the decrease of injected gasoline amount. Also, as the injected gasoline amount is reduced for the same hydrogen addition ratio, the gross indicated work is no significant, But NO and $CO_x$ emissions are considerably decreased. On the order hand, $CO_x$ emissions of two cases are more decreased and their gross indicated works are higher obtained than those of the base model.

The present paper presents a direct numerical simulation of turbulent flows in a compound open-channel. Mean flows and turbulence structures are provided, and they are compared with the numerical data and measured data available in the literature. The simulated results show that twin vortices are generated near the juncture of the main channel and the floodplain and their maximum magnitude is about 5% of bulk streamwise velocity. At the juncture, the simulated wall shear stress becomes the maximum unlike the experimental data. A quadrant analysis shows that both sweeps and ejections become the main contributor to production of Reynolds shear stresses. A conditional quadrant analysis reveals that the directional tendency of dominant coherent structures determines the production of Reynolds shear stress and the pattern of twin vortices.
It was intended to conduct basic research to reduce development lead time and cost consumed in DTP process technology development. For the simulation of HTPE fabric, virtual engineering software was used to generate fiber model, yarn model, fabric model, and finite element model of HTPE fiber. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation and error rate between the stiffness numerical analysis results according to the direct DTP process parameters using reactive dyes in the generated finite element model and the stiffness measurements of the actual sample ac- cording to ASTM D1388. And, after dyeing the HTPE plain fabric according to the direct DTP process parameters, we want to analyze the dyeability of the HTPE fabric fabrics according to the direct DTP process parameters through the color fastness analysis. When looking at the results of the analysis of the finite element model, a higher value was shown when the distance between the nozzle and the fabric was 3mm than when the distance was 10mm. When the distance between the nozzle and the fabric was 10mm and 7mm, the reactive dye did not penetrate sufficiently, resulting in poor clarity when viewed with the naked eye.
