Tunneling Current Contribution to RoA of $Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}$Te Photodiodes ($Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}$Te 광다이오드에서 터널링 전류가 RoA에 미치는 영향)

  • RoA is an important figure of merits for estimating the performance of p-n junction infrared detectors. This paper presents the tunneling current contribution to RoA of $Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}$Te n$^{+}$-p juction photodiodes. Then, a diffusion model, a thermal generation-recombination model, an indirect tunneling model via trap, and a band-to-band direct tunneling model are considered to calculate RoA. Using these models, RoA depending on temperature, doping concentration, and mole fraction is calculated. Also from these results, under various operating conditions the dominant dark current mechanisms cna be understood.

A Study on the removal of B.T.X by UV Photooxidation-Activated Carbon (광산화-활성탄 복합공정에 의한 B.T.X. 분해에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, The decomposition of gas-phase Benzene and Toluene, Xylene in air streams by direct UV Photolysis, UV/TiO$_2$ and UV/TiO$_2$/A.C process was studied. The experiments were carried out under various UV light intensities and initial concentrations of B.T.X to investigate and compare the removal efficiency of the pollutant. B.T.X was determined by GC-FID of gas samples taken from the a glass sampling bulb which was located at reactor inlet and outlet by gas-tight syringe. From this study, the results indicate that UV/TiO$_2$/A.C system (photooxidation-photocatalytic oxidation-adsorption process) is ideal for treatment of B.T.X from the small workplace. Although the results needs more verifications, the methodology seems to be reasonable and can be applied for various workplace (laundry, gas station et al.).

A Study on the Micro-Focus X-Ray Inspection for Confirming the Soundness of End Closure Weld of DUPIC Fuel Elements (DUPIC 핵연료봉 봉단 용접부 건전성 확인을 위한 미세초점 X-선 투과시험에 관한 연구)

  • DUPIC (Direct use of spent PWR fuel in CANDU reactors) nuclear fuel is a CANDU fuel fabricated remotely from spent PWR fuel materials in a hot cell. The soundness of the end closure welds of nuclear fuel elements is an important factor for the safety and performance of nuclear fuel. To evaluate the soundness of the end closure welds of DUPIC fuel element, a precise X-ray inspection system is developed using a micro-focus X-ray generator with an image intensifier and a real time camera system. The fuel elements made of Zircaloy-4 and stainless steel by an Nd:YAG laser welding and a TIG welding aye inspected by the developed inspection system. The soundness of the welds of the fuel elements was confirmed by the X-ray inspection process, and the irradiation test of DUPIC fuel elements has been successfully completed at the HANARO research reactor.

  • Silicon 기반 Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET)의 크기가 감소함에 따라 silicon자체의 물성적 한계가 나타나고 있다. 이를 극복하고자 III-V 화합물 반도체가 채널소자로서 각광받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 III-V 화합물반도체 중 $In_xGa_{1-x}As$는 Indium 조성에 따른 전자구조 및 n-type MOSFET의 소자 특성을 본다. Indium의 조성이 증가함에 따라 subband의 개수와 간격이 증가하게 되어 Density of state가 감소하게 된다. 이로 인하여 Indium의 조성이 증가함에 따라 $In_xGa_{1-x}As$ 채널 MOSFET에서 상대적으로 Fermi level을 더 많이 상승시키게 되어 potential barrier를 얇아지게 만들며 또한 에너지에 따른 전류 밀도를 넓게 분포하도록 만든다. 이로 인하여 단채널에서는 In 조성이 증가함에 따라 direct source-to-drain tunnelling current이 증가하게 된다. 이로 인하여 In 조성의 증가에 따라 subthreshold swing과 ON-state current가 저하된다.

The Study on NOx Emission for Hydrogen Fueled Engine(2) (수소기관에서 NOx 특성에 관한 연구(2))

  • The goals of this research are to understand the $NO_x$ emission in direct injected diesel engine with premixed hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen fuel was supplied into the test engine through the intake pipe. Amount of hydrogen-supplemented fuel was 70 percent basis heating value of the total fuel. The effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on $NO_x$ emission were studied. The exhaust gas was recirculated to the intake manifold and the amount of exhaust gas was controlled by the valve. The major conclusions of this work include: (i) the tested engine was run without backfire under 70 percent hydrogen fuel supplemented; (ii) the peak cylinder pressure was decreased with increase of EGR ratio due to the decrease of oxygen concentration in an intake pipe; and (iii) $NO_x$ emission was decreased by 77% with 30% EGR ratio. Therefore, it may be concluded that EGR is effective method to lower $NO_x$ emission in hydrogen fueled diesel engine.

  • 본 연구에서는 thermal evaporation법을 이용하여 제작한 CdTe 후막의 미세구조, 전기적 특성 및 X-선 조사에 따른 특성을 비교분석하였다. 기판온도를 $370{\sim}450^{\circ}C$로 변화시키며 증착하였으며, CdCl2 첨가에 따른 미세구조 변화를 관찰하였다. CdTe 막의 상 하부에 전극을 형성하여 I-V 특성을 평가하고, 실제 X-ray를 샘플에 조사하여 sensitivity를 측정하였다. 박막형성 초기에는 기판온도가 증가함에 따라 grain size가 증가하였지만, grain uniformity는 감소하였다. X-ray 특성향상을 위해서는 grain size와 uniformity 모두 중요한 인자이기 때문에 uniformity 향상을 위해 Cl을 첨가하였다. 미량의 Cl 첨가에서는 큰 변화를 보이지 않았지만 더 많은 양의 Cl 첨가 시, grain size 와 uniformity 모두 증가되는 것을 확인하였으며, 그에 따라 I-V, X-ray 조사 특성 모두 개선되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study on Structural and Optical Properties of Pb1-xCdxI2 Single Crystals (Pb1-xCdxI2 단결정의 구조적 광학적 특성 연구)

  • $Pb_{1-x}$ $Cd_{x}$ $I_2$ (x=0.0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, 1.0) single crystals were grown by using Bridgman method and their structural and optical properties were investigated from the measurement of X-ray diffraction, optical absorption and photoluminescence. As-grown single crystals have hexagonal closed packed layered structure. The values of lattice constant c decrease with increasing composition x. Direct and indirect transition optical energy band gaps are calculated from optical absorption spectra measured at room temperature. They increase exponentially from 2.3eV to 3.2 eV with increasing composition x. The energies of photoluminescence peak due to donor bound exciton measured at 6K increase with increasing composition . However, the peak energies of donor-acceptor pair (DAP) are independent of the optical energy band gaps of $Pb_{1-x}$/$Cd_{x}$ $I_2$ single crystals.

Magnetic Properties of Sn1-xFexO2 Thin Films and Powders Grown by Chemical Solution Method

  • Iron-doped $Sn_{1-x}Fe_xO_2$ (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.33) thin films on Si(100) substrates and powders were prepared by a chemical solution process. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the $Sn_{1-x}Fe_xO_2$ thin films and powders showed a polycrystalline rutile tetragonal structure. Thermo gravimetric (TG) - differential thermal analysis (DTA) showed the final weight loss above $430{^{\circ}C}$ for all powder samples. According to XRD Rietveld refinement of the powders, the lattice parameters and unit cell volume decreased with increasing Fe content. The magnetic properties were characterized using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. The thin film samples with x = 0.1 and 0.2 showed paramagnetic properties but thin films with x = 0.33 exhibited ferromagnetic properties at room temperature. Mossbauer studies revealed the $Fe^{3+}$ valence state in the samples. The ferromagnetism in the samples can be interpreted in terms of the direct ferromagnetic coupling of ferric ions via an electron trapped in a bridging oxygen deficiency, which can be explained using the F-center exchange model.

A Study on the Lean Combustion Characteristics with Variation of Combustion Parameter in a Gasoline Direct Injection Engine (직접분사식 가솔린 엔진의 연소제어인자에 따른 희박연소 특성 연구)

  • Today gasoline engines for vehicular application are not only faced with stringent emission regulation but also with increasing requirements to better fuel economy, while guaranteeing power density. The spray-guided type gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine has an advantage of improved thermal efficiency and lower harmful emissions. Centrally mounted high pressure injector and adjacent spark plug allow stable lean combustion due to the flexible mixture stratification. In the present study, the performance and emissions characteristics of developed spray-guided type GDI combustion system were evaluated at various excess air ratio conditions. The specific fuel consumption and nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) emissions were reduced due to the achievement of stable lean combustion under flammability limit. Multiple injection strategy was not helpful to improve fuel consumption while further reduction of $NO_x$ emissions was possible.

Pt Electrocatalysts Composited on Electro-Spun Pt Nanowires for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

  • Two types of Pt nanoparticle electrocatalysts were composited on Pt nanowires by a combination of an electrospinning method and an impregnation method with NaBH4 as a reducing agent. The structural properties and electrocatalytic activities for methanol electro-oxidation in direct methanol fuel cells were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and cyclic voltammetry. In particular, SEM, HRTEM, XRD, and XPS results indicate that the metallic Pt nanoparticles with polycrystalline property are uniformly decorated on the electro-spun Pt nanowires. In order to investigate the catalytic activity of the Pt nanoparticles decorated on the electro-spun Pt nanowires, two types of 20 wt% Pt nanoparticles and 40 wt% Pt nanoparticles decorated on the electro-spun Pt nanowires were fabricated. In addition, for comparison, single Pt nanowires were fabricated via an electrospinning method without an impregnation method. As a result, the cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry results demonstrate that the electrode containing 40 wt% Pt nanoparticles exhibits the best catalytic activity for methanol electro-oxidation and the highest electrochemical stability among the single Pt nanowires, the 20 wt% Pt nanoparticles decorated with Pt nanowires, and the 40 wt% Pt nanoparticles decorated with Pt nanowires studied for use in direct methanol fuel cells.
