The dynamic response analysis for large structures using finite element method requires a large amount of computational resources. This paper presents an efficient vibration analysis procedure by combining node-based substructuring reduction method with a response analysis scheme for structures with undamped, proportional or nonproportional damping. The iterative form of substructuring reduction scheme is derived to reduce the full eigenproblem and to calculate the dynamic responses. In calculating the time response, direct integration scheme is used because it can be applied directly to the reduced model. Especially for the non proportional damping matrix, the transformation matrices defined in the displacement space are used to reduce the system. The efficiency and the effectiveness of the present method are demonstrated through the numerical examples.
Ruthenium catalysts modified by selenium have been introduced as alternative materials to Pt in Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). RuSe nano-particles were synthesized on the Vulcan XC72R carbon supports via polyol method. The prepared catalysts were electrochemically and physically characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV,) linear sweep voltammetry, methanol tolerance test, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Energydispersive Spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Increasing the Se concentration up to 20 at % increased the electro-catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction. By increasing Se amount, Ru metallic form on the surface was increased. The $Ru_{80}Se_{20}$/C catalysts showed the highest oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and outstanding methanol tolerant property in half cell tests as well as single cell test.

Direct numerical simulations of turbulent flows over riblet-mounted surfaces are performed to educe the mechanism of drag reduction by riblets. Numerical simulations are performed for flow fields with R $e_$\tau$/=180. For riblet ridge angle $\alpha$=60$^{\circ}$, two different riblet spacings of $s^+/=20 and 40 are used in this study. The computed drag on the riblet surfaces is in good agreement with existing computational and experimental data. The mean velocity profiles show upward and downward shifts in the log-law for drag-decreasing and drag-increasing cases, respectively Turbulence statistics above the riblets are computed and compared with those above a flat plate. The purpose of this study is in two categories: first, to understand the drag reduction mechanism on riblet surface, second, to verify our own code by comparison of the present results with those from previous studies.udies.
The posterior malleolar fracture is relatively common fracture of the foot and ankle, but several aspects of this are still controversial. If the posterior malleolus is involved in the ankle fracture, the prognosis is usually poor. A computed tomography scan is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Although indirect reduction and the anterior to posterior screw fixation technique have the advantages of a small incision with the requirement of relatively simple skills, direct open reduction and fixation from the posterior side provide a more biomechanically stable and accurate reduction. The precise reduction of the posterior malleolar fragment helps to achieve congruency of the tibia and fibula in the incisura and contributes to syndesmotic stability. It is important to determine the indications for surgical treatment by comprehensively evaluating the three-dimensional structure of the posterior malleolar fracture and all related injuries to the ankle.

Principal Fitted Component (PFC) is a semi-parametric sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) method, which is originally proposed in Cook (2007). According to Cook (2007), the PFC has a connection with other usual non-parametric SDR methods. The connection is limited to sliced inverse regression (Li, 1991) and ordinary least squares. Since there is no direct comparison between the two approaches in various forward regressions up to date, a practical guidance between the two approaches is necessary for usual statistical practitioners. To fill this practical necessity, in this paper, we newly derive a connection of the PFC to covariance methods (Yin and Cook, 2002), which is one of the most popular SDR methods. Also, intensive numerical studies have done closely to examine and compare the estimation performances of the semi- and non-parametric SDR methods for various forward regressions. The founding from the numerical studies are confirmed in a real data example.
Purpose: The management of fractures of mandibular subcondyle continues to be controversial between open and closed treatment. The purpose of this article is to explain the endoscopic assisted open reduction and internal fixation and minimize the controversy. Methods: Nine patients of mandibular subcondylar fracture were reduced and fixed by using intraoral endoscopic - assisted open reduction and internal fixation and were followed up for 14 ~ 24 months after surgery. Results: Eight patients of mandibular subcondylar fracture had been treated without significant complications. One patient, whose malocclusion had been remained, was recovered normal occlusion by maxillomandibular fixation using intermaxillary screws for 3 weeks. Conclusion: The advantages of endoscopic - assisted open reduction and internal fixation are direct visualization, accurate fracture repair, minimized scar, decreased morbidity. And maxillomandibular fixation is not needed when it is done by accurate reduction and rigid fixation with one miniplate in the region of subcondylar fracture. With the above consideration, endoscopic - assisted open reduction and internal fixation can be considered as one of the best treament for subcondylar fracture of the mandible.
Objectives: We wanted to estimate the annual socioeconomic costs of alcohol drinking in Korea. Methods: The costs were classified as direct costs, indirect costs and the other costs. The direct costs consisted of direct medical costs, indirect medical costs and subsidiary medical costs. Particularly, the medical costs and population attributable fraction for disease were considered to reflect the calculation of the direct medical costs. The indirect costs were computed by the extent to which the loss of productivity and loss of the workforce might have occurred due to changes in mortality and morbidity according to alcohol drinking. The other costs consisted of property loss, administration costs and costs of alcoholic beverage. Results: The annual costs, which seemed to be attributable to alcohol drinking, were estimated to be 149,352 hundred million won (2.86% of GDP). In case of the latter, the amount includes 9,091 hundred million won for direct costs (6.09%), 62,845 hundred million won for the reduction and loss of productivity (42.08%), 44,691 hundred million won for loss of the workforce (29.92%), and the other costs (21.91%). Conclusions: Our study confirms that compared with the cases of Japan (1.9% of GNP) and the other advanced countries (1.00-1.42% of GDP), alcohol drinking incurs substantial socioeconomic costs to the Korean society. Therefore, this study provides strong support for government interventions to control alcohol drinking in Korea.
In order to regenerate the sulfidated desulfurization sorbent, oxygen is used as the oxidant agent on the regeneration process. The small amount of oxygen un-reacted in regeneration process is flowed into direct sulfur recovery process. However, the reactivity for $SO_2$ reduction can be deteriorated with the un-reacted oxygen by various reasons. In this study, the deactivation effects of un-reacted oxygen contained in the off-gas of regeneration process flowed into direct sulfur recovery process of hot gas desulfurization system were investigated. Sn-Zr based catalysts were used as the catalyst for $SO_2$ reduction. The contents of $SO_2$ and $O_2$ contained in the regenerator off-gas used as the reactants were fixed to 5.0 vol% and 4.0 vol%, respectively. The catalytic activity tests with a Sn-Zr based catalyst were for $SO_2$ reduction performed at $300-450^{\circ}C$ and 1-20 atm. The un-reacted oxygen oxidized the elemental sulfur produced by $SO_2$ catalytic reduction and the conversion of $SO_2$ was reduced due to the production of $SO_2$. However, the temperature for the oxidation of elemental sulfur increased with increasing pressure in the catalytic reactor. Therefore, it was concluded that the decrease of reactivity at high pressure is occurred by catalytic deactivation, which is the re-oxidation of lattice oxygen vacancy in Sn-Zr based catalyst with the un-reacted oxygen on the catalysis by redox mechanism. Meanwhile the un-reacted oxygen oxidized CO supplied as the reducing agent and the temperature in the catalyst packed bed also increased due to the combustion of CO. It was concluded that the rapidly increasing temperature in the packed bed can induce the catalytic deactivation such as the sintering of active components.
In this work we show the results of our most recent Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of turbulent viscoelastic channel flow using spectral spatial approximations and a stabilizing artificial diffusion in the viscoelastic constitutive model. The Finite-Elasticity Non-Linear Elastic Dumbbell model with the Peterlin approximation (FENE-P) is used to represent the effect of polymer molecules in solution, The corresponding rheological parameters are chosen so that to get closer to the conditions corresponding to maximum drag reduction: A high extensibility parameter (60) and a moderate solvent viscosity ratio (0.8) are used with two different friction Weissenberg numbers (50 and 100). We then first find that the corresponding achieved drag reduction, in the range of friction Reynolds numbers used in this work (180-590), is insensitive to the Reynolds number (in accordance to previous work). The obtained drag reduction is at the level of $49\%\;and\;63\%$, for the friction Weissenberg numbers 50 and 100, respectively. The largest value is substantially higher than any of our previous simulations, performed at more moderate levels of viscoelasticity (i.e. higher viscosity ratio and smaller extensibility parameter values). Therefore, the maximum extensional viscosity exhibited by the modeled system and the friction Weissenberg number can still be considered as the dominant factors determining the levels of drag reduction. These can reach high values, even for of dilute polymer solution (the system modeled by the FENE-P model), provided the flow viscoelasticity is high, corresponding to a high polymer molecular weight (which translates to a high extensibility parameter) and a high friction Weissenberg number. Based on that and the changes observed in the turbulent structure and in the most prevalent statistics, as presented in this work, we can still rationalize for an increasing extensional resistance-based drag reduction mechanism as the most prevalent mechanism for drag reduction, the same one evidenced in our previous work: As the polymer elasticity increases, so does the resistance offered to extensional deformation. That, in turn, changes the structure of the most energy-containing turbulent eddies (they become wider, more well correlated, and weaker in intensity) so that they become less efficient in transferring momentum, thus leading to drag reduction. Such a continuum, rheology-based, mechanism has first been proposed in the early 70s independently by Metzner and Lamley and is to be contrasted against any molecularly based explanations.

The electrochemical reduction of ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibenzyl N-benzylidene L-aspartate in 0.1M LiCl ethanol solution was investigated by direct current (DC), differential pulse (DP) polarography, cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry(CPC). The irreversible reductive amination of imino group proceeded to form ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibenyl N-benzyl L-aspartate by CEC or CE electrochemical reaction mechanism at the first reduction step (-0.92 volts vs. Ag-AgCl). The polarographic reduction wave was slightly suppressed due to inhibitory effect of micelle, while the irreversibility was increased according to the increase of Triton X-100 concentration. Upon the basis of product analysis and polarogram interpretation with pH change, possible CE electrode reaction mechanism was suggested.
