This paper describes design for dual-linear polarization antenna using EMC(electromagnetic-coupled) dipole. EMC dipole has a simple element structure and it is fed by microstrip line. Vortical and horizontal polarization are determined by structure of dipole fed by microstrip line. FDTD Method is used for an analysis of antenna element. Length, width, height and offset of dipole are designed for 1-element antenna. Resonant length of diploe differs from the calculated value by a formula because of coupling effect of dipole and feed line. Radiation Power is controlled by the offset of dipole. In prectical fabrication of antenna array, a constant height of dipoles is required. Therefore, the teflon plate with height of 0.8 mm is considered in antenna element design for the vertical polarization.

This paper describes the characteristics of a one dimensional narrow-wall slotted waveguide array with a single-layer linear-to-circular polarization converter consisting of a dipole array. An external boundary value Problem of one slot and three dipoles, which approximates the mutual coupling between the dipole array and an edge slot extending over three faces of a rectangular waveguide, is formulated and analyzed by the method of moments; design of polarization conversion is conducted for this model as a unit element. If every unit element has perfect circular polarization, grating lobes appear in the array pattern due to the alternating slot angle: these are suppressed in this paper by changing the dipole angle and degrading the axial ratio of the unit element. The validity of the design is confirmed by the measurements. The dipole array has negligible effects upon slot impedance; the polarization conversion for existing narrow-wall slotted arrays is realized by add-on dipole array.

This paper describes a design for the circularly polarized microstrip EMC cross dipole array antenna with the wide bandwidth. To realize the characteristics of wide bandwidth and circular polarization, the electromagnetic-coupled cross dipole element is proposed. The optimum design parameters of a circularly polarized EMC cross dipole element are calculated by the FDTD and the Ensemble. To obtain the uniform aperture illumination of electric field in an array, offset technique that the cross dipole elements are alternatively arranged on center of the microstrip feed line is adopted. In 20-element array design, the calculated axial ratio and gain are about 0.1dB and 9.9 dBi at 12 GHz, respectively, The frequency characteristics of a fabricated 20-element array antenna are measured. The calculated results agree well with the measured ones.

For the application to the direction finding(DF) antenna for V/UHF bands, circular active array composed of 9 dipole element has been investigate. For miniaturization of the overall size array, the element has been chosen to be of the top-hat dipole type. For the broadband operation over 20-1300MHz, some number of pin diodes have been inserted in each arms of each dipole element. By employing this type of each element dipole, the effective dipole length can be increased or decreased according as the inserted pin diodes is on or off. The active array antenna has been design to be directly connected to the balanced push full amplifier such that the amplifier may play a role as a balloon and may improve the sensitivity as a receiver as well. The active array antenna has been designed and fabricated. Some experimental results have been presented in comparison with simulated results.

A CPW-fed to CPS dipole antenna of triangular loop director by microstrip tapered balun is proposed for dual and wide band operations, in this paper. The proposed antenna is consisted of a CPW-fed to CPS transform, microstrip tapered balun element, CPS dipole driver and triangular loop director. A dual and wide bandwidth of the proposed dipole antenna is realized by introducing the triangular loop director and taper matching element. The operated frequency bandwidth is 1GHz (2.14~3.14 GHz) and 1.9 GHz (4.6~6.5 GHz) to return loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measured return loss of the proposed antenna showed good results of the dual and wide band operating frequency and the radiation pattern. The proposed antenna is able to support WLAN wireless communications applications.

In this paper, a design method for a compact log-periodic half-bow-tie dipole array antenna for an operation in UWB band is studied. The proposed antenna is miniaturized by using half-bow-tie shaped dipole elements instead of strip-type dipole elements, which are commonly used in general log-periodic dipole array antenna, and by reducing the element spacing. The effects of the flare angle of the half-bow-tie elements and the element spacing on input reflection coefficient and realized gain characteristics of the proposed log-periodic antenna are analyzed. The optimized antenna is designed on FR4 substrate, and it operates in the frequency band of 3.05-13.96 GHz for a VSWR < 2, which assures the operation in the UWB band.

This paper presents the basic characteristics of a 5 element dipole array antenna which has a four parastic element and one driving element at the center of the circular array. The coupled integral equations for the unknown current distributions on dipole elements are derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The numerical results show that the highest power gain of 7.8 dBi is obtained at radius of d = 0.3lλ when two short circuited parastic element neighbors. In order to verify the theoretical analysis, the radiation pattern is compared with Preston's results.

The current on the thin planar structure as an element of the transversely fed electromagnetically coupled(EMC) microstrip dipole array antenna is obtained by using the integral forms of the finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. This method was applied to calculating the optimum current distribution (Doplh-Tchebyscheff distribution) of each dipole element on the feed line as a function of their offset positions for the narrow main beam width and the side beam level below -20 dB. The current on each dipole substitutes for the electric and magnetic current densities on the virtual surface of the FDTD calculation to express the far field intensity, the calculation time and the computer memeory can be reduced to about 80% and 1.3 Mbyte, respectively. The calculated radiation patterns are compared to the measured values and these are in good agreement.
A finite element method was used to simulate the wave propagation of laser-generated ultrasound and its interaction with surface breaking cracks in an elastic material. Thermoelastic laser line source on the material surface was approximated as a shear dipole and loaded as nodal forces in the plane-strain finite element (FE) model. The shear dipole- FE model was tested for the generation of ultrasound on the surface with no defect. The model was found to generate the Rayleigh surface wave. The model was then extended to examine the interaction of laser generated ultrasound with surface-breaking cracks of various depths. The crack-scattered waves were monitored to size the crack depth. The proposed model clearly reproduced the experimentally observed features that can be used to characterize the presence of surface-breaking cracks.
