Inhibitory Effect of Ginsenosides on NMDA Receptor-mediated Signals in Rat Hippocampal Neurons

  • Ginseng is the best known and most popular herbal medicine used worldwide. Ameliorating effects of ginseng were observed on the models of scopolamine-induced, aged or hippocampal lesioned learning and memory deficits. Further beneficial effects of ginseng were observed on neuronal cell death associated with ischemia or glutamate toxicity. In spite of these beneficial effects of ginseng on the CNS, little scientific evidence shows at the cellular level. In the present study, we have employed cultures of rat hippocampal neurons and examined the direct modulation of ginseng on NMDA receptor-induced changes in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ and -gated currents using fura-2-based digital imaging and perforated whole-cell patch-clamp techniques, respectively. We found that ginseng total saponins inhibited NMDA-induced but less effectively glutamate-induced increase in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ Ginseng total saponins also modulated $Ca^{2+}$ transients evoked by depolarization with 50 mM KCI along with its own effects on $[Ca^{2+}]_i$. Among ginsenosides tested, ginsenoside $Rg_3$ was found to be the most potent component for ginseng actions on NMDA receptors. Furthermore, we examined the inhibitory effects ofbiotransformants of ginsenosides on NMDA receptor using purified stereoisomers of ginsenosides. 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rg_3$ and its metabolite, 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rh_3$, produced the strongest inhibition while 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rh_1$ and Compound K produced the moderate inhibition on NMDA-induced increase in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$. The data obtained suggest that the inhibition of NMDA receptors by ginseng, in particular by 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rg_3$ and its metabolite, 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rh_2$, could be one of mechanisms for ginsengmediated neuroprotective actions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of online home learning in connection with extracurricular activities for lifelong education for the disabled in university on the cooking aids skills of cafeterias for the job search persons with developmental disabilities. Three people with job search developmental disabilities who have been in a state of unemployment for three years after graduating from a special high school course participated in the experiment. In order to verify the meaningful functional relationship between independent variables and dependent variables, multiple probe design across subjects, one of the main techniques of a single object study, was used. The experimental conditions according to the research design consisted of the steps of baseline, intervention, maintenance, and generalization. The dependent variable of this study is the restaurant cooking aid skills in the cafeteria, and three subskills such as side dish arrangement, sink arrangement, and dish washing were combined by task analysis. And the independent variable of this study was composed of procedures and methods to teach the environment, tools and materials related to the performance of dependent variables to the developmental disabled people at home by using real-time image technique through zoom service, and the contents of the performance by stages of task analysis. In addition, independent variables were applied to the subjects in the course of the extracurricular activities with the theme and contents of lifelong education for the disabled at university. Students who completed the above extracurricular activities practiced the intervention scene of the researcher through the screen sharing of zoom service. As a result, the subjects with developmental disabilities effectively acquired and maintained the positive response performance of dependent variables through independent variables. The subjects also showed high positive responses to generalization tests conducted in kitchens in cafeterias located elsewhere in the same university.

신체 치수 측정기술 특허 동향 분석 (Analysis of Patent Trends for Body Size Measurement Technology)

  • 인체의 체형정보 중 신체 치수 측정기술은 줄자나 영상 분석을 이용한 체형 측정 방법들이 활용되고 있으나, 간편하면서도 측정 정확도나 재현성이 높은 방법에 대한 수요는 꾸준한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 신체 치수 측정기술과 관련한 국내외 특허 조사를 수행하여 관련 기술의 개발 동향을 파악하였다. WISDOMAIN DB를 이용하여 한국, 미국, 일본 및 유럽에 공개된 특허를 대상으로 검색하였으며, 대분류, 중분류 기술체계와 소분류의 기술범위를 정의하여 유효 특허를 도출하였다. 도출된 특허에 대해 연도별 특허 동향, 국가별 주요 출원인과 기술 분야 현황을 분석하였다. 신체 치수 측정기술 분야는 한국의 특허출원 비중이 높아 이 분야에서 한국이 특허 출원을 주도하는 것으로 나타났다. 센서형 측정기술 분야의 특허 출원 건수 자체가 많지는 않았지만, 측정 간편성 부분에 장점이 있으므로 관련 기술개발은 체성분 분석 관련 측정 정확도 향상에 기여가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • 최근 IT보안의 화두가 되고 있는 가장 위협적인 공격은 APT공격이다. APT공격에 대한 대응은 인공지능기법을 활용한 대응이외에는 방법이 없다는 것이 현재까지의 결론이다. 여기서는 머신러닝 기법을 활용한 사이버위협 데이터를 분석하는 방법, 그 중에서도 빅데이터 머신러닝 프레임웍인 Scikit Learn를 활용하여 사이버공격 사례를 수집한 데이터셋을 이용하여 사이버공격을 분석하는 머신러닝 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 이 결과 70%에 육박하는 공격 분류 정확도를 보였다. 이 결과는 향후 보안관제 시스템의 알고리즘으로 발전가능하다.

  • 파일 카빙(File Carving)은 저장 매체가 포맷되거나 파일시스템이 손상되어 메타데이터가 없는 파일 복구를 시도하는 기법으로 일반적으로 파일의 특정 헤더/푸터 시그니처 및 데이터 구조를 찾는다. 그러나 파일 카빙은 오랫동안 단편화 (Fragmentation) 된 파일을 복구해내는 문제점에 직면하고 있으며, 디지털포렌식에서 중요한 대상의 파일(doc, hwp, xls 등)은 비교적 단편화되기 쉬우므로 이에 대한 해결방안 제시는 매우 중요하다. 이와 같은 한계점을 극복하기 위하여 다양한 카빙 기법 및 도구들이 지속적으로 개발되고 있으며, 기능 검증을 위하여 다양한 연구 및 기관에서 데이터셋을 제공한다. 그러나, 기존에 제공된 데이터셋은 환경적인 조건이 상당히 제한되어 도구를 검증하는데 있어 비효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 단편화된 파일 카빙의 중요성을 언급하고, 카빙 도구 검증을 위한 시나리오 기반의 16가지의 이미지를 개발한다. 개발된 이미지는 상용 카빙 도구로 잘 알려진 Foremost를 통하여 매체 별로 카빙률 및 정확도를 계산하여 나타낸다.

GIS/GPS based Precision Agriculture Model in India -A Case study

  • In the present day context of changing information needs of the farmers and diversified production systems there is an urgent need to look for the effective extension support system for the small and marginal farmers in the developing countries like India. The rapid developments in the collection and analysis of field data by using the spatial technologies like GPS&GIS were made available for the extension functionaries and clientele for the diversified information needs. This article describes the GIS and GPS based decision support system in precision agriculture for the resource poor farmers. Precision farming techniques are employed to increase yield, reduce production costs, and minimize negative impacts to the environment. The parameters those can affect the crop yields, anomalous factors and variations in management practices can be evaluated through this GPS and GIS based applications. The spatial visualisation capabilities of GIS technology interfaced with a relational database provide an effective method for analysing and displaying the impacts of Extension education and outreach projects for small and marginal farmers in precision agriculture. This approach mainly benefits from the emergence and convergence of several technologies, including the Global Positioning System (GPS), geographic information system (GIS), miniaturised computer components, automatic control, in-field and remote sensing, mobile computing, advanced information processing, and telecommunications. The PPP convergence of person (farmer), project (the operational field) and pixel (the digital images related to the field and the crop grown in the field) will better be addressed by this decision support model. So the convergence and emergence of such information will further pave the way for categorisation and grouping of the production systems for the better extension delivery. In a big country like India where the farmers and holdings are many in number and diversified categorically such grouping is inevitable and also economical. With this premise an attempt has been made to develop a precision farming model suitable for the developing countries like India.

IoT 기반 간헐적 이벤트 로깅 응용에 최적화된 효율적 플래시 메모리 전력 소모 감소기법 (Efficient Flash Memory Access Power Reduction Techniques for IoT-Driven Rare-Event Logging Application)

  • Low power issue is one of the most critical problems in the Internet of Things (IoT), which are powered by battery. To solve this problem, various approaches have been presented so far. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the power consumption by reducing the numbers of accesses into the flash memory consuming a large amount of power for on-chip software execution. Our approach is based on using cooperative logging structure to distribute the sampling overhead in single sensor node to adjacent nodes in case of rare-event applications. The proposed algorithm to identify event occurrence is newly introduced with negative feedback method by observing difference between past data and recent data coming from the sensor. When an event with need of flash access is determined, the proposed approach only allows access to write the sampled data in flash memory. The proposed event detection algorithm (EDA) result in 30% reduction of power consumption compared to the conventional flash write scheme for all cases of event. The sampled data from the sensor is first traced into the random access memory (RAM), and write access to the flash memory is delayed until the page buffer of the on-chip flash memory controller in the micro controller unit (MCU) is full of the numbers of the traced data, thereby reducing the frequency of accessing flash memory. This technique additionally reduces power consumption by 40% compared to flash-write all data. By sharing the sampling information via LoRa channel, the overhead in sampling data is distributed, to reduce the sampling load on each node, so that the 66% reduction of total power consumption is achieved in several IoT edge nodes by removing the sampling operation of duplicated data.

Four-Year Experience Using an Advanced Interdisciplinary Hybrid Operating Room : Potentials in Treatment of Cerebrovascular Disease

  • Objective : To describe our experiences with a fully equipped high-end digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system within a hybrid operating room (OR). Methods : A single-plane DSA system with 3-dimensional rotational angiography, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), and real-time navigation software was used in our hybrid OR. Between April 2014 and January 2018, 191 sessions of cerebrovascular procedures were performed in our hybrid OR. After the retrospective review of all cases, the procedures were categorized into three subcategorical procedures : combined endovascular and surgical procedure, complementary rescue procedure during intervention and surgery, and frameless stereotaxic operation. Results : Forty-nine of 191 procedures were performed using hybrid techniques. Four cases of blood blister aneurysms and a ruptured posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysm were treated using bypass surgery and endovascular trapping. Eight cases of ruptured aneurysm with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) were treated by partial embolization and surgical clipping. Six cases of ruptured arteriovenous malformation with ICH were treated by Onyx embolization of nidus and subsequent surgical removal of nidus and ICH. Two (5.4%) of the 37 cases of pre-mature rupture during clipping were secured by endovascular coil embolization. In one (0.8%) complicated case of 103 intra-arterial thrombectomy procedures, emergency surgical embolectomy with bypass surgery was performed. In 27 cases of ICH, frameless stereotaxic hematoma aspiration was performed using $XperGuide^{(R)}$ system (Philips Medical Systems, Best, the Netherlands). All procedures were performed in single sessions without any procedural complications. Conclusion : Hybrid OR with a fully equipped DSA system could provide precise and safe treatment strategies for cerebrovascular diseases. Especially, we could suggest a strategy to cope flexibly in complex lesions or unexpected situations in hybrid OR. CBCT with real-time navigation software could augment the usefulness of hybrid OR.

  • 최근 선거캠페인에서 수집되는 유권자 모델링 및 맞춤형 커뮤니케이션에 관한 데이터는 양적 확장성과 질적 유용성 측면에서 새롭다. 본 연구는 지능정보기술을 활용한 고도의 데이터 분석 능력이 정치에 어떻게 활용되고 있는지에 주목한다. 그 중에서도 선거캠페인에서의 유권자 행동 타게팅이 다양한 측면에서 민주주의 과정과 충돌할 수 있다는 점에 초점을 맞춘다. 이를 위해 마이크로 타게팅과 정치 봇을 살펴본다. 본 연구는 이러한 기술 기반의 캠페인 기법들이 민주주의의 핵심인 자유로운 의견 표출과 논쟁을 방해하는 요인으로 작동하는 양상을 보여준다. 동시에 이에 영향을 미치는 알고리즘의 속성을 파악한다. 본 연구는 지능정보기술 기반의 정치와 민주주의에서 다음과 같은 문제가 발생할 수 있음을 제시한다. 첫째, 정치참여의 불평등이 심화된다. 둘째, 유권자 간 공적 논쟁이 어려워진다. 셋째, 피상적인 정치가 만연한다. 넷째, 단일 이슈 정치와 배제의 정치 현상이 증가한다. 마지막으로 정치적 프라이버시가 침해될 수 있다. 요컨대, 지능정보시대 우리의 역할은 점점 고도화되고 있는 지능정보기술과 민주주의가 공존할 수 있는 방법을 모색하는 것이다.

Ceramill full denture system을 이용한 무치악 환자의 양악 총의치 제작 (Rehabilitation of fully edentulous patient using Ceramill full denture system (FDS))

  • CAD/CAM 기술은 이미 치과 보철학 영역에서 전반적으로 사용되고 있으며, 1994년 총의치 제작을 위한 CAD/CAM 기술이 처음 소개된 이후 의치 제작과정의 CAD/CAM 적용범위가 증가되고 있는 추세이다. 본 논문에서는 무치악 환자의 양악 총의치 제작을 위한 전통적인 다섯 단계 중 납의치 제작과정에 CAD/CAM기술을 도입하였다. 최종 인상채득하여 악간 관계를 기록한 주모형을 스캔한 후 Amann Girrbach사의 Ceramill full denture system (fds)을 이용해 납의치를 제작하였다. Ceramill fds는 스캔된 상하악 모형에 전용 소프트웨어를 이용해 인공치 배열 및 의치상을 제작하여 이를 밀링하는 방식으로 기존의 기공과정을 디지털로 전환하는 특징을 가진다. 이를 통해 총의치 제작시간의 단축 및 심미적, 기능적으로 만족스러운 의치제작이 가능했기에 본 증례를 보고하고자 하는 바이다.
