  • Road networks are important geospatial databases for various GIS (Geographic Information System) applications. Road digital maps may contain geometric spatial errors due to human and scanning errors, but manually updating roads information is time consuming. In this paper, we developed a new road features updating methodology using from multispectral high-resolution satellite image and pre-existing vector map. The approach is based on initial seed point generation using line segment matching and a modified double snake algorithm. Firstly, we conducted line segment matching between the road vector data and the edges of image obtained by Canny operator. Then, the translated road data was used to initialize the seed points of the double snake model in order to refine the updating of road features. The double snake algorithm is composed of two open snake models which are evolving jointly to keep a parallel between them. In the proposed algorithm, a new energy term was added which behaved as a constraint. It forced the snake nodes not to be out of potential road pixels in multispectral image. The experiment was accomplished using a QuickBird pan-sharpened multispectral image and 1:5,000 digital road maps of Daejeon. We showed the feasibility of the approach by presenting results in this urban area.

  • This study shows that consumers' attitudes and behaviors are rapidly changing due to the COVID-19 outbreak in a situation where consumption patterns are already changing due to demographic changes such as an increase in the number of single-person households and dual-income couples. To this end, the results of an online survey conducted on 500 panels of Nielsen Korea were used in this study. In particular, consumers were divided into two generation groups (Generation Z vs. Millennial) and analyzed and presented changes in consumption activities and food purchasing behaviors changed by COVID-19. As a result, the existing online distribution trend has been strengthened, and its impact has been amplified by COVID-19. These changes also resulted in different consumption behaviors depending on the degree of concern for COVID-19 by generation. Based on the results of this study, it turns consumers' behavioral changes into new opportunities, focusing on the accelerating a new 'contactless' lifestyle, which will provide managerial implications for the food industry's response strategies in relation to the theoretical significance and in practice.

  • South Korea has achieved remarkable social and economic development together with the process of democratization over the past 20 years. In the democratic process in South Korea, ordinary people have actively participated in conventional political activities such as elections. But recently, one of the salient phenomena is that the public have been showing political apathy associated with a light poll. Especially, the most serious concern in the political environment of South Korea is that young voters (e.g., 20-30s) have serious political apathy leading to low voter turnout. Regarding this concern, many political scientists argued that this political phenomenon is not only the case in South Korea, insisting that many consolidated democratic countries such as European countries and the US have the same problems. However, South Korea has contained different factors (e.g., historical, culture, social, and political differences) leading to political apathy and light poll. Unfortunately, no one has clearly explain the phenomenon. In fact, in order for scholars to understand and explain these concerns, they should carefully look at the phenomenon with diverse perspectives and approaches. The main purpose of this paper is to explain why the digital generation has political apathy and are reluctant to participate in political activities such as voting. Using causal loop analysis which is based on systematic thinking, we not only analyzed the pattern of the digital generation' political participation with regard to diverse perspectives, but also attempted to draw new political implications from the analysis. Based on our analysis, we tried to suggest some implications for political stability and development in South Korea in the future.
