FRBR(Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) that is conceptual model of bibliographic universal is increased its value because of spreading digital libraries. This research investigates application strategies of the FRBR model, For the study 7 foreign application cases are analyzed. Especially focused on the reason of adoption and method of the entities in the first group of the FRBR model. The result of this research could be the basic resources for study and implementation of the FRBR Model.

Functions of metadata, semantic and syntatic schemas, metadata service such as registries, repositories, the optimal metadata retrieval, and several considerations of implementation of digital libraries were the research scopes of this investigation. R&D outcomes of metadata subjects in the domestic community for the past 10 years were searched and analyzed. It illustrated the major results, distinctive trends as well as some insufficient aspects to satisfy the researchers and operators of metadata system development.

Although an academic journal has had an important role in the diffusion of knowledge and the confirmation of knowledge advancement, it has revealed several difficulties : long processing time for publishing, uni - directional communication, closed review process etc. But an electronic journal (E-Journal) can solve these problems and add several new advantages such as the multimedia expression of documents, and pre and post publication review. Moreover, it should be noted that an E-Journal is not an alternative medium which simply replaces an existing journal, but a new paradigm for scholarly communication. Although this paper reviews several issues related to E-Journal, the introduction of the concept of universal service and informal document style for flexible communication are noticeable. For effective diffusion of E-Journal, information infrastructures such as high - speed telecommunication networks and digital libraries are urgently needed. Government subsidy as in Great Britain is necessary for E-Journal publishing.

본 연구는 국내 대학도서관의 협력형 디지털참고정보서비스가 효율적으로 운영될 수 있도록 필요한 조건 중 가장 근본이 되는 가이드라인을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 우리나라의 경우 그동안 가이드라인이 필요하고 성문화되어야 한다고 지속적으로 논의되어왔지만 아직까지 체계화되지 못한 상황이다. 이를 위해 협력형 디지털참고정보서비스를 제공할 참고사서와 이용자를 대상으로 심층면담 및 설문조사를 수행하여 국내 상황에 맞는 가이드라인 요소를 파악하고 개발하고자 한다. 본 연구가 제시한 국내 대학도서관의 협력형 디지털참고정보서비스 가이드라인은 향후 서비스 계획 및 운영에 있어 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study is to implement electronic catalog that is necessary for Web-based electronic commerce and one of many application areas in digital libraries technologies. According to development to digitize various type of paper documents that are used at electronic commerce. We demonstrated limitations of HTML and XML that are being used for current electronic catalog, and introduced newly developed cXML. We have also implemented new electronic catalog using cXML in order to develop and research standardized and secured electronic commerce.

As multimedia database and digital image libraries are enlarged, CBIR(Content Based Image Retrieval) has been getting importance for the efficient search. Generally, CBIR uses primitive features such as color, shape, texture and so on. Among various methods of CBIR, Gabor wavelet has good image retrieval performance with texture features but it has a disadvantage which does not perform well for a rotated image because of its direction oriented filter. In this paper, we propose a new method to solve this problem by modifying Gabor filter for all directions. And then we will compare the searching performance of the proposed method with those of conventional image retrieval methods through experiments with trademarks.

This paper intends to describe the concepts and historical development of electronic library, to examine some of information technologies such as CD-ROM, electronic books, multimedia and networks, and to analyze cases of electronic library. Electronic library is able to offer many services in digital form, ranging from bibliographic databases on CD-ROM running on standalone computers, to fully networked abstracts and texts, available inside and outside the library. For users, the electronic library is a means of improving the speed of access to library materials, of providing a simple means of the selecting materials amid the glut of information available, and of eliminating the need to visit a library for many information inquires. In summary, electronic library has the potential to give scholars better service than conventional libraries, at a lower cost. However, remember that, today, almost all these benefits are still potential.

최근 Web 2.0의 연장선 상에서 Library 2.0에 대한 논의가 급증하고 있다. 이와 같이 새로운 기술이 등장할 때마다 디지털도서관의 발전에 대해서는 새로운 전망이 등장하게 된다. 이 글에서는 디지털도서관의 발전을 특정 기술 위주의 시각이 아닌 구성 자원 위주의 시각 혹은 이용자 중심의 시각에서 바라보려고 시도하였다. 디지털화 대상의 변천을 기준으로 하였을 때, 현재 디지털도서관은 2차 자료나 1차 자료와 같은 정보자원의 디지털화 단계를 거쳐서 인적자원 간의 커뮤니케이션이 디지털화하는 단계로 접어든 것으로 보인다. 향후의 디지털도서관 개발에는 커뮤니케이션의 디지털화와 함께 이용자의 참여를 적극적으로 유도할 필요가 있을 것이다.

The Ewha Music Database (EMDB) is an online database comprised of primary source materials related to music education from East Asia during the modern era (1880 to 1945) when Korea, Japan, and China were geopolitically and culturally intertwined. We developed the incipit search in EMDB as an embedded tool. This is the first attempt in Korea to implement a unique search function of musical data using alphabets of musical notes. Unlike in traditional search system that uses general literature information search conditions, such as author, title, publisher, year, number of pages, etc., it offers a new way of searching a musical piece/work and sheet music. This study confirms that digital information technology is an important methodology for research of music culture as a field of humanities.

Image retrieval is one of the most exciting and fastest growing research fields in the area of multimedia technology. As the amount of digital contents continues to grow users are experiencing increasing difficulty in finding specific images in their image libraries. This paper proposes an efficient image descriptor which uses a local color and texture in the non-overlapped block images. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we assessed the retrieval efficiency in terms of ANMRR with common image dataset. The experimental trials revealed that the proposed algorithm exhibited a significant improvement in ANMRR, compared to Dominant Color Descriptor and Edge Histogram Descriptor.
