  • The purpose of this study identified the effectiveness of the existent interventions, which had been applied to the teens in multicultural families in South Korea. Totally 29 relevant studies, including dissertations and published articles, published from 2008 to 2014, were systematically searched and analyzed through meta-analytic method. The study results revealed the specific conditions which made the intervention more effective for the teens in multicultural families. Specifically, the program could be most effective when the program had a social adaptation intervention type as well as aimed to middle school students as a target population. Also, the program could be most effective when the program had lower than 8 sessions, run 3-5 times a week, and had from 21 to 30 participants in one intervention group. In addition, current existing programs showed higher effect sizes on outcomes focusing on relationships rather than on those focusing on psychological problems. This study is theoretically meaningful in terms of quantitatively synthesizing the existing intervention programs for the teens in multicultural families. In addition, we expect that this study would practically contribute to develop evidence-based programs for those teens in multicultural families.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the sacrooccipital category II blocking technique may improve abdominal muscle endurance and alleviate shoulder pain caused by pelvic tilting. Methods: A total of 50 subjects diagnosed with category II sacroiliac joint instability and lower back pain were randomly assigned to the control or treatment group. The sacrooccipital technique category II blocking procedure (2-min duration) was performed 3 times a week until the category II indicator of joint instability had subsided. The control subjects were subjected to a sham procedure of equal duration and frequency. We assessed abdominal muscle endurance using the partial curl-up test and shoulder pain using a visual analogue scale, before and immediately after the intervention and 2 weeks after the intervention. Results: On two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures on time factor, significant treatment and interaction effects on muscle endurance were found. A significant interaction effect, but not treatment effect, was found for shoulder pain. Post hoc test showed that the shoulder pain was reduced immediately after intervention (treated group) and 2weeks (control and treated group) after the intervention as compared to before the intervention. Conclusions: This study suggests that sacrooccipital category II blocking can be used to alleviate shoulder pain caused by pelvic instability. The mechanisms behind the long-term benefits may include an increase in abdominal muscle endurance.

  • The repeatability error creeps in every corner of mechanical design as mechanical design becomes diverse and complicated. Inkjet printing has inherent repeatability error problem due to its nature of seamless incremental image synthesis of partial images. Without the calibration for the repeatability error realization of high print quality or enhancement of other printing performance could be impaired. Printer designers have met this recurrent problem even before the inception of inkjet print device and contrived various solutions as their own intelectual proprietary. Also, it is a trend to perform necessary calibration without painstaking human intervention. To come up with another useful and proprietary solution has become an important ingredient in inkjet printer design. This paper presents such a solution developed at Digital Printing Division of Samsung Electronics Company.

  • One of the most negative social changes of the last decade is population aging which leads to 19 times more patients with Mild Cognitive Disorder(MCI). It is well established that MCI is the most important state that can prevent dementia with early diagnosis and intervention. However, the social security system for patients with dementia is not working properly due to the coronavirus pandemic and the limited human power. This article proposes a form of workbench and design principles for dementia training programs of extended reality devices. and the findings in this study provide a guide for considering the cognitive and physical and social functions of patients.

  • Forward head posture (FHP) is a musculoskeletal disorder that causes neck pain. Several exercise interventions have been used in South Korea to improve craniovertebral angle (CVA) and relieve neck pain. There has been no domestic literature review study over the past 5 years that has investigated trends and effects of exercise intervention methods for CVA with neck pain. This domestic literature review aimed to evaluate the trends and effects of exercise interventions on CVA and neck pain in persons with FHP. A review of domestic literature published in Korean or English language between 2018 and 2022 was performed. Literature search was conducted on Google Scholar and Korea Citation Index by using the following keywords: "exercise," "exercise therapy," "exercise program," "forward head posture," and "neck pain." Ten studies were included in this review. All of the studies showed positive improvements after intervention programs that included exercises. Notably, four of these studies demonstrated significant differences in results between the experimental and control groups. Among the 10 studies, nine measured visual analogue scale or numerical rating scale scores and reported significant reductions in pain following interventions, including exercise programs. Five of these studies showed significant differences in results between the experimental and control groups. Furthermore, six studies that used neck disability index exhibited a significant decrease in symptoms after implementing intervention programs that included exercise, and significant differences in results were found between the experimental and control groups. This domestic literature review provides consistent evidence to support the application of various exercise intervention programs to improve CVA and relieve neck pain from FHP. Further studies are warranted to review the effects of various exercise interventions on FHP reported not only in domestic but also in international literature.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA), a natural polymer found in fermented soybean products, has been reported to play a prebiotic role in the gut. This intervention study investigated the effects of γ-PGA-containing supplement consumption on urinary microbiota in healthy adults because of limited data on such investigation. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A 4-week parallel trial including 39 male and female Korean adults, who were free of chronic diseases and infection, was designed as a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study. A total of 30 participants completed the study wherein the intervention group (n = 17) received a mixture supplement containing 600 mg/day of γ-PGA and 100 mg/day of vitamin B6, while the control group (n = 13) received a placebo. Paired datasets (baseline and endpoint data) of microbiota profiles, which were constructed via urinary assays of microbe-derived extracellular vesicles, were analyzed and compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Only the intervention group yielded significant results for the Bray-Curtis and Jaccard dissimilarity indices between baseline and endpoint data (P < 0.05). In the phylum-level analysis of microbial composition, the Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio (FB ratio) tended to decrease from baseline in the intervention group; however, it increased in the control group. Differences between the baseline and endpoint FB ratios were significant between the two groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study's findings suggest that γ-PGA-vitamin B6 supplementation potentially alters the microbial community composition of a host. Further investigation into the biological consequences of commensal microbiota alteration by γ-PGA-containing supplement consumption is warranted.

  • Purpose This study aims to verify the mediating effect of the utilization performance of digital device on the relationship between user attitude and life satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach Using the data of 2018 Digital Divide Survey conducted by the National Information Society Agency(NIA), the mediating effect was verified by Baron & Kenny (1986)'s 3 step process, targeting 1,662 adults older than 55. Findings The result is as follows: first, the user attitude of middle and older aged people has a positive effect on their life satisfaction. Second, the effect of user Attitude towards Digital Device of middle and older citizens is partially mediated by the utilization performance of digital device. The results of this study indicate that when providing informatization education in the local community to promote the use of digital devices for the elderly, efforts should be made to grasp the level and inclination of informatization individually, and furthermore present improvements for wireless devices that the elderly can easily access in their daily lives. This study is expected to be a groundwork for a practical intervention to boost positive attitude towards using digital device to enhance the utilization performance of digital device and the life satisfaction of middle and older aged people.

  • To analyse the overall research trends in digital therapeutics, this study conducted a quantitative bibliometric analysis of articles published in the last 10 years from 2014 to 2023. We extracted bibliographic information of studies related to digital therapeutics from the Web of Science (WOS) database and performed publication status, citation analysis and keyword analysis using R (version 4.3.1) and VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) software. A total of 1,114 articles were included in the study, and the annual publication growth rate for digital therapeutics was 66.1%, a very rapid increase. "health" is the most used keyword based on Keyword Plus, and "cognitive-behavioral therapy", "depression", "healthcare", "mental-health", "meta-analysis" and "randomized controlled-trial" are the research keywords that have driven the development and impact of digital therapeutic devices over the long term. A total of five clusters were observed in the co-occurrence network analysis, with new research keywords such as "artificial intelligence", "machine learning" and "regulation" being observed in recent years. In our analysis of research trends in digital therapeutics, keywords related to mental health, such as depression, anxiety, and disorder, were the top keywords by occurrences and total link strength. While many studies have shown the positive effects of digital therapeutics, low engagement and high dropout rates remain a concern, and much research is being done to evaluate and improve them. Future studies should expand the search terms to ensure the representativeness of the results.
