Hierarchical Segmentation of Monumental Inscription Image (금석문 영상의 계층적 분할)

  • The study on shilla monumental inscription has been accomplished by many historians. However, the research on segmentation of monumental inscription image using digital image processing technique is not sufficient. The preprocessing using computer is needed for accurate interpretation of history. In this paper, A morphological filtering using directional information is presented. Directional filtering is effective in reducing noises and preserving edges. The opening and closing operations in the 1st stage are performed for the pixel is aligned to the vertical, horizontal and two diagonal directions. The Opening operation supresses the positive impulse noise while the closing operation the negative ones. Then Directional filter and post-processing are applied to the image. Experimental result shows outstanding performance for interpretation.

  • It is the emergence of multimedia based on information revolution that foretells and develops the largest change in the transfiguration of a modern design. In this paper, the basic principle and characteristics of a new design model is compared and analyzed, and the change of communication based on information form in order to examine the concept and characteristics of digital as today's new media in detail is considered in an changed environment. And also a new theoretical ground is derived about ‘virtual reality’ and ‘interaction’ which is the important characteristics of a digital media so as to compare the property of digital with that of analogue, analyze them and specify the concept and characteristics of digital. Thus the validity of this study is proved by a new interpretation methode of ‘spatiotemporal structure’ on the digital design on the basis of the above mentioned things

  • A wide variety of convergent digital products are emerging through the combination of multiple independent digital technologies. Digital convergence provides new revenue sources for businesses and new ways of satisfying individual needs of consumers. Despite its business and consumer implications, little research has addressed how people perceive or evaluate convergent products. This study aims at understanding how consumers interpret and evaluate convergent digital products by conducting two consecutive studies. Firstly, a survey was conducted to understand how people interpret convergent products in three ways suggested by the conceptual combination theory based in cognitive science. Secondly, an experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of combination strategies and product similarities on user evaluation of convergent products. Study results indicate that similarity of constituent products has a substantial effect on the interpretation of concept combination strategies. Moreover, combination strategy and product similarity were found to have substantial effects on user comprehension, perceived newness, and preferences for convergent products. This paper ends with an examination of the implications and limitations of the study results.

  • In this paper, PLC program for flowing type steam boiler control is presented. The function of the implementation are flowing type steam boiler, PLC control, interpretation of PLC command, and temperature scheme. The flowing type steam boiler approach is based on master-slave control concept. To show validity of the developed PLC program, severial experiments are illustrated.

  • 본 논문은 디지털 방송 프로그램 진행 중 비디오의 특정 시점에 동기화된 특정 객체의 위치정보를 표현하는 data stream을 생성하고, 그 시점에 해당 위치 정보를 해석하는 해석기에 관한 것이다. 현재의 상용 스트림 생성기는 디지털 방송 표준에서 권고하는 스트림 이벤트의 발생 시각과 셋톱박스에서 디코딩 시에 사용할 참조값을 적절하게 생성하지 못하고 있다. 또한, 셋톱박스에서 동작하는 애플리케이션(Xlet) 역시 STC(System Time Clock), PCR(Program Clock Reference), NPT(Normal Play Time) 등의 시간값을 적절하게 읽어내지 못하고 있다. 더욱이, 현재의 디지털 방송 표준에서는 영상 내 특정 객체를 위해 정보를 제공하는 데에는 한계가 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 다양한 연동형 디지털 방송 프로그램 제작을 위해 비디오의 특정 시점에 동기화된 객체의 위치정보를 표현하는 data stream을 생성하는 방법과, 동기화된 데이터를 처리하는 애플리케이션에 대해서 설명한다.

Research on the Usage and Satisfaction of Smart Community Initiatives in Malaysia

  • This study aims to explore and identify factors of respondent's on the definition of 'smart community facilities', their usage and satisfaction in Malaysia. Study carried out in four sites which were Kota Belud, Kemaman, Lundu and Putrajaya. Data was collected through qualitative method where interviews was carried out with several smart community members in answering factors that drives the usage/participation, satisfaction and continuance intention from using the 'smart community facilities'. Interpretation from the qualitative approach reveals that community thinks infrastructure, content and digital services will help to generate and build up 'smart community'. This will give the benefit for the whole community as well as improve individual efficiency, lifestyles and well-being. Findings demonstrated that the advance of Internet will enhance people usage on being 'smart' and efficient and it should be further improved with better infrastructures, systematic development with sophisticated digital technology services, facilities and structured content, and also safety-security measures in place.

The Use of Continuous Confidence Judgments in ROC of Digital Radiography (디지털 X선영상 평가에서 연속확신도법 ROC의 적용)

  • In general, the discrete confidence judgments that use five-step assessment method have been used to assess the medical images by ROC. TPF or FPF can be computed easily with this independent reading test. However, during experiments, it happens frequently that adequate distribution for observers is required to smoothly estimate the ROC curve. In addition, data becomes invalid for distribution of the created categories. To solve such problems or to apply the ROC interpretation to data that is not obtained from the experimental observation, the continuous confidence judgements (CCJ) has been proposed, which implements ROC interpretation using continuously-distributed experimental results without category classification has been used. As the use of CCJ to assess medical images was barely reported in Korea, we applied it to the assessment of chest digital images in this study. The results showed that a smooth ROC curve was obtained conveniently by the commercialized program and the characteristic value was measured easily. Therefore, it is recommended that this method can be applied to the assessment of digital medical images.

  • Digital photogrammetry is one of the powerful tools for surveying in more perceptual ways and exploiting the continuously developing computer technology. Nowadays, digital photogrammetry is being used for a number of industrial measurements and inspections but the automation aspect of this technique is not fully developed yet. Photogrammetric work, which is obtained through usual workflow, delays for a big amount of CGP surveying, interpretation and cadastral information. Therefore through studying ways of reducing the volume of photogrammetric works, financial opportunities for digital photogrammetry can be found. This research is focused on the development of the new workflow and study algorithm in digital photogrammetry. Using this result we can reduce financial expenses and improve technologies of topographic and cadastral plans creation.

EXTRACTING OUTLINE AND ESTIMATING HEIGHT OF LAND FEATURES USING LIDAR DATA

  • Digital topographic map in Korea contains layers of spatial and attribute data for 8 land features such as railroads, watercourses, roads, buildings and etc. Some of the layers such as building and forest don't include any information about height, which can be just prepared by interpretation of remote sensed data or field survey. LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) data using active pulse and digital camera provides data about height and form of land features. LiDAR data can be used not only to extract the outline of land features but also to estimate the height. This study presents technical availability for extraction and estimation of land feature's outline and height using LiDAR data which composes of natural and artificial land features, and digital aerial photograph which was taken simultaneously with the LiDAR. The estimated location, outline and height of land features were compared with the field survey data, and we could find that LiDAR data and digital aerial photograph can be a useful source for estimating the height of land features as well as extracting the outline.

  • The concept and discussion of copyright should reflect changes in using environments of digital properties and developments of technology. Further discussions are required about protection, transfer and usage of copyright for user created contents or digital activities. Digital archives should clarify the ranges of permitted usage or guides to quotation. One should not be biased toward regulating digital copying, but consider the value of diverse transformation of digital properties. This will trigger tension between private and public usage, or sharing of digital fabrications, which leads to the necessity of discussions on policy level. The interpretation of copyright is limited to protecting the copyright owner's right, but it should be suggested to widen the range to permitting fair use. The extended fair use of digital contents and by clarifying specific rules will activate creation and distribution of digital contents and contribute to more productive usage of innovation.
