  • Efficient extraction and update of imagery is a crucial element in establishing latest geospatial information in today's fast changing Information society. Provision of Quick Bird imagery, with 61cm resolution panchromatic imagery and 2.5m resolution multi-chromatic imagery is contributing greatly in the application field if high density geospatial information. This research have conducted digital plotting utilizing stereo images provided by QuickBird satellite and evaluated the accuracy through comparison and analysis with digital map results. It turned out that result has smaller error than standard deviation of scale of 1:5,000 set by the NGII. This proves that the production of digital map at scale of 1:5,000 is possible.

  • This study proved if the high resolution satellite imagery of IKONOS is suitable for preparing digital forest cover map. Three methods, the pixel based classification with maximum likelihood (PML), the segment based classification with majority principle(SMP), and the segment based classification with maximum likelihood(SML), were applied to classify and delimitate forest cover of IKONOS imagery taken in May 2000 in a forested area in the central Korea. The segment-based classification was more suitable for classifying and deliminating forest cover in Korea using IKONOS imagery. The digital forest cover map in which each class is delimitated in the form of a polygon can be prepared on the basis of the segment-based classification.

  • Most algorithms in computer vision and digital photogrammetry assume that digital stereo pairs are registered in epipolar geometry. But, an aerial stereo pair is not likely to be in epiplar geometry since the attitude of the camera at the instant of exposure is different at every exposure station. In this paper, stereo digital imagery is obtained from aerial stereo pair by scanner. Then procesure to resample the digital imagery to epipolar geometry using exterior orientation elements after absolute orientation is described. As a result, a stereo imagery in epipolar geometry is produced from stereo digital imagery. Epipolar imagery in this paper is applied to the image matching method by digital image correlation technique. Then, a digital elevation model is produced from the result of image matching. The digital elevation model in this paper is compared to the other digital elevation model produced by analytical plotter. As a result, an economical method to generate digital elevation model is presented.

  • The orthophto map is seen as the form of picture with the uniform reduced scale as the current terrain map. Thus it provides a reasonable feeling of scene and is easy to be interpreted. Furthermore, digital orthophoto is currently used as the basic terrain information data of the Geo-Spatial Information System(GSIS). Therefore, the orhtophoto map has high potential use as a future terrain map. This paper studies the method of producing orthophoto map by using the digital satellite imagery data taken from SPOT satellite of France. The production of orthophoto map requires the process of generating orthophoto imagery with digital elevation model, which process is called digital differential rectification. As the final accuracy of orthophoto map depends on that of digital elevation model, the precise and efficient production method of digital elevation model should be preceded. This study investigated the method of producing digital elevation model directly from SPOT satellite imagery and generated ortho-image by resampling the original SPOT imagery through digital differential rectification. Finally, Simple orthophoto map was made by overlaying the ortho-image and the contour map from digital elevation model.

  • Currently application of high-resolution satellite imagery is expanding with development of high tech optical and space aviation technology. Although using 3 dimensional modeling technology in order to attain accurate terrain information using existing ground control points is the most dependable reference data, such means are unapplicable for certain area because of it's limited access. In this study, we have researched into ways to utilizing high resolution satellite images from IKONOS and Quickbird, and sub-meter class satellites images that will be utilized In the future such as Arirang images and PLEIADES images for unaccessible areas. For that purpose we have created accuracy verification and GCP files for existing ortho-imagery and digital elevation model. The results showed that accuracy of ortho-Imagery and digital elevation model was RMSE X:3.043m, Y:2.921m, Z:6.139m. Also, after ortho-rectifying IKONOS images using ground control points extracted from ortho imagery and digital elevation model the accuracy of the imagery was RMSE X:3.243m, Y:2.067m, Z:1.872m.

  • In 1799, Korea has become a country that holds Earth observation satellite in orbit as they had succeeded in the launch of KOPMSAT-1, the first Korean Earth observation satellite for the practical purpose. For the wide application of the satellite imagery, various application techniques are required, and topographic mapping is essential technique for the application in various fields. Moreover, considering that the main mission of the KOMPSAT-1 is to provide the satellite imagery for the mapping of Korean peninsula, the topographic mapping using KOMPSAT-1 EOC imagery is very significant. In this paper, we showed the possibility of digital plotting using KOMPSAT-1 EOC stereo images to produce topographic map. For the purpose, we implemented experimental stereo plotting using digital photogrammetric workstation and analyzed the procedure. As a result of this paper, we showed that some elements consist in 1:25,000 scale map can be plotted from KOMPSAT-1 Stereo images.

  • Recently the extraction of building height information has been investigated using remotely sensed image and digital maps. In this study, based on the digital photogrammetry principle and mono imagery method the building height information can be extracted by using relationship between ground coordinates and image coordinates. To evaluate the result the comparison was done with building height from 1:5000 aerial photo. The experiment shows that extraction of building height could be performed using IKONOS single imagery and digital map and it is proved that the building height could be reconstructed within some extent.

  • Digital surface model generation from IKONOS stereo imagery is a new challenge in photogrammetric community, especially when the satellite company does not provide the raw data as well as their ancillary ephemeris data. In this paper we utilized an estimated relief displacement azimuth and the nominal collection elevation data included in the metadata file to correct the relief displacement of GCPs, together with a linear transformation for geometric modeling of IKONOS imagery. Space intersection is performed by the trigonometric intersection assuming a parallel projection of IKONOS imagery due to its small FOV and frame size. In the experiment, less than 2-meters of RMSE in orbit modeling is achieved denoting the potential positioning accuracy of the IKONOS stereo imagery.

  • This study was performed to prove if the high resolution satellite imagery of IKONOS is suitable for preparing digital vegetation map which is becoming increasingly important in ecological science. Seven classes for forest area and five classes for non-forest area were taken for classification. Three methods, such as the pixel based classification, the segment based classification with majority principle, and the segment based classification with maximum likelihood, were applied to classify IKONOS imagery taken in April 2000. As a whole, the segment based classification shows better performance in classifying the high resolution satellite imagery of IKONOS. Through the comparison of accuracies and kappa values of the above 3 classification methods, the segment based classification with maximum likelihood was proved to be the best suitable for preparing the vegetation map with the help of IKONOS imagery. This is true not only from the viewpoint of accuracy, but also for the purpose of preparing a polygon based vegetation map. On the basis of the segment based classification with the maximum likelihood, a digital vegetation map in which each vegetation class is delimitated in the form of a polygon could be prepared.
