  • Three main important sources for establishing GIS are the orthomap in scale 1:5 000 with Ground Sampling Distance of 0,5m; DEM/DTM data with height error of ${\pm}$1,0m and topographic map in scale 1: 10 000. The new era with Very High Resolution Satellite (VHRS) images as IKONOS, QuickBird, EROS, OrbView and other ones having Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) even lower than 1m has been in potential for producing orthomap in large scale 1:5 000, to update existing maps, to compile general-purpose or thematic maps and for GIS. The accuracy of orthomap generated from VHRS image affects strongly on GIS reliability. Nevertheless, orthomap accuracy taken from VHRS image is at first dependent on chosen sensor geometrical models. This paper presents, at fist, theoretical basic of the Rational Polynomial Coefficient (RPC) model installed in the commercial ImageStation Systems, realized for orthorectifying VHRS images. The RPC model of VHRS image is a replacement camera mode that represents the indirect relation between terrain and its image acquired on the flight orbit. At the end of this paper the practical accuracies of IKONOS and QuickBird image orthorectified by RPC model on Canadian PCI Geomatica System have been presented. They are important indication for practical application of producing digital orthomaps.

  • Due to threats caused by social disasters, operating surveillance devices are essential for social safety. CCTV, infrared cameras and other surveillance equipment are used to observe threats. This research proposes a method for searching for the optimum location of surveillance sensors. A GA (Genetic Algorithm) was used, since this algorithm is one of the most reasonable and efficient methods for solving complex non-linear problems. The sensor specifications, a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and VITD (Vector Product Interim Terrain Data) maps were used for input data. We designed a chromosome using the sensor pixel location, and used elitism selection and uniform crossover for searching final solution. A fitness function was derived by the number of detected pixels on the borderline and the sum of the detection probability in the surveillance zone. The results of a 5-sensor and a 10-sensor were compared and analyzed.

  • Based on Geo-Spatial Information System(GSIS), we tried to develop three dimensional road simulation system of coastal region considering landscape in Jeju island. The 1:5000 digital map, microstation CAD and Inroads road design programs were used to design coastal road. To estimate landscape effect of the three dimensional road visual simulation we implemented three types road simulations that are the trees planted, the flowers planted and the trees and flowers planted road, respectively. From the study, we found that the three dimensional virtual technique was very useful tool to design the road considering landscape effect in ocean view terrain and to estimate the reasonable road characteristics.

  • Recently, the research that analyze topography parameters that need in hydrology analysis using GIS techniques is achieved. DEM that is used in topography analysis can be constructed effectively using contour data of digital map. Therefore, DEM's applicability is increasing gradually in several fields. In this study, DEM of 20∼l00m grid size was applied PYONGCHANG river and JUBANG river basin to analyze what effect DEM grid size causes about slope and drainage watershed at topography parameter extraction. This study drew a regression equation about slope change by DEM grid size. As a result, according as DEM grid size increases, slope decreases, and basin area could know that is not change almost.

  • The purpose of this study is to quantitatively analyze the effects of a restoration project on the decrease in the temperature in the surrounding areas. The thermal environment characteristics of the investigation area were analyzed using the meteorological data from the Busanjin Automatic Weather System which is closest to the target area. The terrain data of the modeling domain was constructed using a digital map and the urban spatial information data, and the numerical simulation of the meteorological changes before and after the restoration of the stream was performed using the Envi-met model. The average temperature of the target area in 2016 was $15.2^{\circ}C$ and was higher than that of the suburbs. The monthly mean temperature difference was the highest at $1.1^{\circ}C$ in November and the lowest in June, indicating that the temperatures in the urban areas were high in spring and winter. From the Envi-met modeling results, reductions in temperature due to stream restoration were up to $1.7^{\circ}C$ in winter, and decreased to $3.5^{\circ}C$ in summer. The effect of temperature reduction was seen in the entire region where streams are being restored.

  • The Entry-Descent-Landing process of a lander involves many environmental and technical challenges. To solve these problems, recently, terrestrial relative navigation (TRN) technology has been essential for landers. TRN is a technology for estimating the position and attitude of a lander by comparing Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data and image data collected from a descending lander with pre-built reference data. In this paper, we present a method for generating descent dataset and extracting landmarks, which are key elements for developing TRN technologies to be used on Mars. The proposed method generates IMU data of a descending lander using a simulated Mars landing trajectory and generates descent images from high-resolution ortho-map and digital elevation map through a ray tracing technique. Landmark extraction is performed by an area-based extraction method due to the low-textured surfaces on Mars. In addition, search area reduction is carried out to improve matching accuracy and speed. The performance evaluation result for the descent dataset generation method showed that the proposed method can generate images that satisfy the imaging geometry. The performance evaluation result for the landmark extraction method showed that the proposed method ensures several meters of positioning accuracy while ensuring processing speed as fast as the feature-based methods.

  • The primary factors of the LOS(Line-of-Sight) analysis process are terrain height, camera capacity, and canopy cover. The canopy cover rate differs depending on the changing season, and its value is influenced by the tree density, tree height, and etc. This study generated the canopy cover value based on relationship between NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and DMT(Density Measure % of Tree/Canopy Cover), which is a digital map attribute, and then performed the LOS analysis on six station of test sites. As results, It was found that NDVI and DMT are correlated with each other through the experiments. Based on this finding, new DMT map can be generated using NDVI. Also, There is a difference between the result of visibility analysis using the present DMT and one using a new DMT. Especially, the spatial distributions of the detected visible areas are significantly different between the two visibility analysis results.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop geostatistical methods for selection of prospective areas of polymetallic nodule deposits in KODOS (Korea Deep Ocean Study) area of the North-East Pacific Ocean. In this study $110{\times}165$ grid system was used, and each node represents the center of an estimated block of $1km{\times}1km$. The ordinary kriging was applied to SeaBeam2000 data in order to evaluate the bathymetry. A structural analysis (variogram) of the bathymetry data was carried out for constructing digital terrain model (DTM) and the maximum slopes of the bathymetry were calculated by DTM data. The above method can be used to solve the problem that is resulted from the lack of theory of a change of support model for the maximum slope of the bathymetry. The ordinary kriging and the indicator kriging were used to evaluate the nodule abundance, and the different two kriging methods were compared to evaluate the accuracy for the estimation of the nodule abundance. It has been shown that indicator kriging was better estimation tool than the ordinary kriging. The overlay map is presented for the selection of potentially minable sites by combining the two indicator maps of the nodule abundance and the maximum slope of bathymetry. This overlay map could be utilized to establish follow-up survey and to investigate the potentially minable sites in the KODOS area.

  • Most golfers believe that knowing yardages will improve their score. Certainly it helps with club selection. But, simple "Graphic" yardage guides being notorious for error and inaccuracies, which a serious golfer will pick immediately, only serve to erode the players enjoyment and ultimately, golf course satisfaction. Someone believes with low-level aerial photographic images, golfer will be impressed with the accuracy of the depiction, helping them play a more confident game. But, there are no mapping products in true 3-D available in the world that allows a golfer to determine shot distances in yards or meters. So, we suggest an lenticular technology for real 3-D display as a viable alternative to conventional image map solution. This technology is an image display method for the generation of multi-image effects like 3D visualization or animation. This methodology is cutting edge stereoscopic image which overcomes the limitation of conventional photo tech by recomposing and producing 3 dimensional images. A significant strength of this methods its versatility concerning display effects. The main use of the hardcopy 3-D lenticular displays is in the fields of science, education, planning, and representation. This paper gives a concise overview of the lenticular foil technology and describes the production of the true 3-D yardage book of golf courses. For this study, 3-D effects are achieved and evaluated with the lenticular display by incorporation multiple synthetic images based on digital topographic terrain model and by using the two images of the actual stereopair.
