  • After revision of law of architecture in 2006, all houses which have more 100 households must has ventilation unit for the indoor air quality. Optimal design of the natural and the mechanical ventilation has being considered. In this paper, it is carried out about optimal design for airflow distribution of total heat exchanger in houses using CFD. As the result, first design of ventilation has some problem in porch area. Adding diffusers in porch area and changing diffuser schedule make more efficient ventilation than original design.

  • It is common to design the duct branches where to supply the required air flow for individual room in residential apartment house. And TAB process is applied to control the designed air volume with adjusting volume dampers and/or supply diffusers after fully installing the ventilation system. This process has been resulted increasing the initial cost for the residential ventilation system because of man-hour and accessories such as volume control damper or diffuser. However it is difficult to adjust the air volume adequately in small air duct branches in residential ventilation system. The purpose of this study is to figure out the performance of Multidrop chamber coupling system for the residential ventilation system.

  • Conventional reverberation chamber has a rectangular structure including mode stirrers or mode-turned stirrers to obtain the field uniformity inside the chamber. This paper explained the way to improve the field uniformity in an asymmetric structure instead of conventional rectangular structure with right-angled planes. Two types of asymmetric structure were considered. One was an asymmetric reverberation chamber using Quadratic Residue Diffuser and the other was an asymmetric chamber with oblique enclosure including fixed Randomly Made Diffusers. The FDTD simulation method was used to analyze the field homogeneous characteristics of these asymmetric reverberation chambers.

  • Multi-objective design exploration (MODE) and its applications are reviewed as an attempt to utilize numerical simulation in aerospace engineering design. MODE reveals the structure of the design space based on trade-off information. A self-organizing map (SOM) is incorporated into MODE as a visual data mining tool for the design space. SOM divides the design space into clusters with specific design features. This article reviews existing visual data mining techniques applied to engineering problems. Then, we discuss three applications of MODE: multidisciplinary design optimization for a regional-jet wing, silent supersonic technology demonstrator and centrifugal diffusers.

  • In order to investigate the design method for a micro centrifugal compressor, which is the most important component of an ultra micro gas turbine, an impeller having the outer diameter of 20mm was designed, manufactured and tested. The designed rotational speed is 500,000 rpm and the impeller has a fully 3-dimensional shape. The impeller was rotated at 250,000 rpm in the present study. The experimental results of the tested compressor with the vaned and the vaneless diffusers were compared. It was found that the vaned diffuser attained the higher flow rate than the vaneless diffuser at the maximum pressure ratio. In addition the maximum pressure ratio was higher for the diffuser having a larger diffuser divergence angle at the high flow rate. These results were compared with those obtained by the prediction method used at the design stage.

  • Numerical and experimental study were carried out to characterize sound fields of low frequency in a scaled reverberation chamber for measurement of sound insulation of panels. By using BEM, lower modes of the chamber are identified and then predicted the effect of diffusers in order to destruct lower modes. Compared results with measurements show reasonable agreements, especially at the first end second modes. Based on numerical prediction, the diffuser are installed in order to improve sound fields to be more diffuse than ever. It is found that the diffuser put in nodal line of the chamber destruct evidently the first mode. Consequently, the measuring error at the low frequency can be relatively reduced compare to the case of without diffuser.

  • In this study, laboratory study of the behavior of wastewater discharged from the Boston ocean outfall was compared with the predictions of mathematical models. The dta sets cover broad ranges of discharge conditions and oceanic conditions, and are associated with a typical type of outfall discharges with multiport diffusers. The laboratory data sets were obtained in density stratified towing tanks. These data sets were used to evaluate four commonly used models: UM, UDKHDEN, RSB and CORMI$\times$2 for minimum dilution, the height to the top of the wastefield, and wastefield thickness. For minimum diluation and height to the top of the wastefield, UM and RSB predictions agree well with laboratory data. UDKHDEN overestimated the minimum dilution and height to the top of the wastefield while CORMI$\times$2 underestimated these values. All of the model predictions for the wastefield thickness were widely scattered. about the measured values. The hydraulic model study reproduced the major features observed in the laboratory. It also afforded considerable insight into the mechanics of mixing of multiport risers which could not have been obtained either from the laboratory test or the mathematical models.

  • This study was accomplished to develop a pneumatic granular applicator that can be attached to the conventional ride-on rice transplanter. Operating conditions of a metering device for the applicator were determined so as to obtain the required discharge rate of granules for field application. The shape and size of diffuser was selected for the applicator and the spacing between diffusers on a boom and the boom height were determined as an optimal application condition for uniform distribution. The diffuser spacing of 1m for the fertilizer and the diffuser spacing of 0.8m for the pesticide at the boom height over 0.8m were acceptable.

  • A engineering analysis has been conducted to study operating characteristics of a supersonic exhaust diffuser simulating high altitude atmosphere from a flow-developing point of view. Emphasis is placed in the detail flow structure resulting from several design- and operating- parameters of the diffuser such as the area ratios of a exhaust nozzle to the diffuser, the vacuum chamber size, and jet pressure.

  • In this study, a tracer gas technique was used to measure ventilation effectiveness in a thermal environmental chamber simulating an under-floor air conditioning system. A tracer gas of $SF_6$ was injected in a supply duct using step-up and step-down methods. Local mean ages and room mean ages were calculated from the measured concentrations under isothermal and cooling conditions with and without diffusers. Ventilation effectiveness is found to be higher in cooling ventilation operations than in isothermal operations. Results also show that ventilation effectiveness is not significantly affected by a diffuser.
