Magnesium oxide (MgO) and Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) have been successfully synthesized by solid-solid reaction method. The structural properties of ZnO and MgO NPs were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD results indicated a formation of pure MgO and ZnO NPs. The mean diameter values of the agglomerated particles were around to be 70 and 50 nm for MgO and ZnO NPs, respectively using SEM analysis. Further, a wide-range of nuclear radiation shielding investigation for gamma-ray and fast neutrons have been studied for Magnesium oxide (MgO) and Zinc oxide (ZnO) samples. FLUKA and Microshield codes have been employed for the determination of mass attenuation coefficients (μm) and transmission factors (TF) of Magnesium oxide (MgO) and Zinc oxide (ZnO) samples. The calculated values for mass attenuation coefficients (μm) were utilized to determine other vital shielding properties against gamma-ray radiation. Moreover, the results showed that Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles with the lowest diameter value as 50 nm had a satisfactory capacity in nuclear radiation shielding.

Using Fresnel diffraction theory a formula is drived for signal intensity variation caused by finite strip obstacles. Signal intensity according to parameter variation of the obstacle is theoretically calculated by a computer and compared with experimental results. For the experiment, an acryl board 3 mm thick was used on which a special material was painted to prevent some reflections and transmissions of the incident wave. 10-element Yagi antennas were used for transmitting and receiving antenna and the frequency was 820 MHz. Finally a tree model was made as a combination of many different finite strip obstacles. Signal attenuation calculated from numerical analysis agree reasonably with experimental data.

The influence of lead cations on natural quartz (QZ) from Egypt as a glass shielding material for the composition with nominal formula (10Na2O - (90 - x) QZ - xPbO (where x = 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 mol %)) was examined. The studied samples are synthesized via the melt quenching method at 1050 ℃. The X-ray diffraction XRD patterns were confirmed the glass nature for studied samples. Moreover, the optical properties, and the transparency for all compositions were examined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Also, the major elemental composition of the natural quartz were estimated via the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technique. Further, the density and molar volume were determined. Furthermore, the nuclear shielding parameters such as, mass attenuation coefficient, effective atomic number, electronic density, the total atomic, and electronic cross sections as well as the mean free path, and the half value layer with different gamma ray energies (81 keV-1407 keV) were calculated. Besides, the results showed that the shielding behavior towards the gamma ray radiation for all glass samples was increased as the increment in PbO concentration in the glass system.

Compressed Sensing(CS) is the theory that can recover signals which are sampled below the Nyquist sampling rate to original analog signals. In this paper, we propose the estimation algorithm of ultrasonic attenuation coefficients in the frequency domain using CS. While most estimation algorithms transform the time-domain signals into the frequency-domain using the Fourier transform, the proposed method directly utilize the spectral information in the recovery process by the basis matrix without the completely recovered signals in the time domain. We apply three transform bases for sparsifying and estimate the attenuation coefficients using the Centroid Downshift method with Dual-reference diffraction compensation technique. The estimation accuracy and execution time are compared for each basis matrix. Computer simulation results show that the DCT basis matrix exhibits less than 0.35% estimation error for the compressive ratio of 50% and about 6% average error for the compressive ratio of 70%. The proposed method which directly extracts frequency information from the CS signals can be extended to estimating for other ultrasonic parameters in the Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS) Analysis.
In this study, composites containing undoped and barium-doped Bi2WO6:Ba2+were investigated for their shielding against diagnostic X-ray. At first, Bi2WO6 and barium-doped Bi2WO6 were synthesized with different weight percentages of barium oxide through a hydrothermal process. The as-synthesized nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Raman spectroscopy (RS). After that, some shields were generated with undoped and barium-doped Bi2WO6:Ba2+ nanostructure particles incorporated into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) polymer with different thicknesses and 15% weight of the nanostructure. Finally, the prepared samples were exposed to an X-ray tube at 40, 80, and 120 kV voltages, 10 mAs and, 44.5 cm SID (i.e. the distance from the X-ray beam source to the specimen). Linear and mass attenuation coefficients were also calculated for different samples. The results indicated that, among the samples, the one with 7.5 mmol barium-doped Bi2WO6 had the most attenuation at the voltage of 40kV, and the attenuation coefficients would increase with an increase in the amount of barium. The samples with 15 and 17.5 mmol barium-doped Bi2WO6 had higher attenuation than the others at 80 and 120 kV. Moreover, the half-value layer (HVL), tenth-value layer (TVL) and 0.25 mm lead equivalent thickness were calculated for all the samples. The lowest HVL value was for the sample with 7.5 mmol barium-doped Bi2WO6. As the result clearly show, an increment in the barium-doping content leads to a decrease in both HVL and TVL. In every three voltages, 0.25 mm lead equivalent thickness of the barium-doped composites (7.5 mmol and 15 mmol) had less than the other composites. The lowest value of 0.25 mm lead equivalent thickness was 7.5 barium-doped in 40 kV voltage and 15 mmol barium-doped in 80 kV and 120 kV voltages. These results were obtained only for 15% weight of the nanostructure.

Ni-$TiO_2$ nano composite coatings were fabricated using pulse current electrodeposition technique at 100 Hz pulse frequency with a constant 50% pulse duty cycles and reference was taken with respect to the direct current (dc) electrodeposition. The properties of the composite coatings were investigated by using SEM, XRD, Wear test and Vicker's microhardness test. Pulse electrodeposited composite has exhibited enhancement of (111), (220), and (311) diffraction lines with an attenuation of (200) line. The results demonstrated that the microhardness of composite coatings under pulse condition was significantly improved than that of pure nickel coating as well as dc electrodeposited Ni-$TiO_2$ composite coatings. Wear tracks have shown the less plastic deformation in pulse plated composite. Coefficient of friction was also found to be lower in pulse plated composite coatings as compared to dc plated composite coatings.

For computer aided design and construction of low noisy power plants, indoor and outdoor noise prediction program has been developed. The program utilizes the predefined data of noise sources and building materials and has the faculty to estimate the source level using the empirical formula in case of the measured data not being available. In the noise prediction, the mutual noise propagation between indoor and outdoor sites are considered. The outdoor noise source in the calculation of geometric divergence effects is modelled as the omni-directional finite line or planar source according to the source geometry and the receiving points. Outdoor noise prediction is carried out to consider the diffraction effect due to plant structures as well as the attenuation effect due to atmospheric absorption and soft ground. The results of indoor and outdoor noise prediction for a recently constructed diesel engine power plant show good agreement with the measured.

A parametric loudspeaker is a device to generate highly directional sound using ultrasounds. The parametric loudspeaker could be used to focus sound in a limited space, so it is important to study the characteristics of the parametric loudspeaker in near-field. Mechanism of the audible sound generation in the parametric loudspeaker is explained by nonlinear interaction of the ultrasounds and is modeled as KZK equation, the nonlinear wave equation which contains attenuation, nonlinearity and diffraction. To measure the directional characteristics of the parametric loudspeaker precisely, a method to reduce the spurious signal which taints the measured signal was invented. With the method, directivity patterns of the parametric loudspeaker were measured and compared to the approximated solution and piston sources.
To mitigate excessive noise from highways, and high speed rail road, it is often necessary to construct a noise barrier. Absorptive barroer attenuation solution is obtained for the problem of diffration of a plane wave sound source by a semi-infinite plane. A finite region in the vicinity of the edge has an highly absorbing boundary condition ; the remaining portion of the half plane is rigid. The problem which is solved is a mathematical model for a hard barrier with an absorbing edge. If the wavelength of the sound is much smaller than the length scale associated with the barrier, the diffraction process is governed to all intents and purpose by the solution to a standard problem of diffraction by a semi-infinite hard plane with an absorbent edge. It is concluded that the absorbing material that comprises the edge need only be of the order of a wavelength long to have approximately the same effect, on the sound attenuation in the shadow side of the barrier. Traffic noise is composed of thousands of sources with varying frequency content. To simplify noise predictions when barriers are present, an effective frequency of 550Hz may be used to represent all vehicles. The wavelength of sound at f=550Hz for traffic noise is about 2 feet. According to the above conclusion, an absorptive highway noise barrier is only needed to cover to cover approximately a 2 foot length of absorbing material. It would be more economical to cover only the region in the immediate vicinity of the edge with highly sound obsorbent material.

The significant additional path loss is caused by scattering, diffraction, and attenuation of propagation. Most of the wave propagation models for rural areas mainly have considered the influence of topography but ignored the effects due to land usage. The goal of this paper is development of the field strength prediction program for Cheju which is used the contour map and the effects due to land usage. In oder to classify the propagation path and divide the environment of land, data of the terrain and the land-cover are formed into a pixel. Two-ray model is transformed into equivalent model by the predicted reflection coefficient and the slope of terrain. For non line of sight, the additional loss is determined by quantitative analysis. The result show good accord and the wave propagation model program can be applied to predicted the service region in rural area of Cheju.
