  • The aim of this study is to find out the effects of thermal aging condition on dielectric strength and degree of crtstallinity of XLPE insulation. Thermal properties of XLPE insulation were investigated by DSC(differential scanning calorimetry) and dielectric strength were analyzed using AC BDV tester. Aging of XLPE samples were conducted through different four conditions. The degree of crtstallinity and AC BDV were changed by thermal history. From these results, it can be suggested that DSC and AC BDV test are suitable for diagnostic method of extra high voltage XLPE cable.

  • The characteristics of aging of near-equiatomic Ni-Ti alloy has been studied by the three point bend test and the measurement of Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC). The DSC is used to measure precise transformation temperatures and the amount of thermal energy required for the corresponding phase transformation. The effort of hardness on aging treatment in saline solution of $37^{\circ}C$ was higher for the annealed than solution treated specimens. As the testing temperature inc- rease from under $M_f$ to above $A_f$ temperature, the elastic stiffness increased. Almost full recovery can be achieved after bending below Belo outer fiber strain. Total bend recovery decreased gradually as aging time and bend angle is increased.

  • Polyenaminonitriles containing cycloaliphatic and aliphatic units were prepared by interfacial or solution polymerization reaction of p-bis(1-chloro-2,2-dicyanovinyl) benzene (1) with 4-aminobenzyl-amine, 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine, 2-(aminomethyl)pyrrolidine and 4-(aminomethyl)piperidine. The chemical structure of the polymers was confirmed through a syntheses of the model compound. The resulting polymers possessed inherent viscosities of 0.29∼0.62 dL/g and they were easily soluble in polar aprotic solvents and common organic solvents. Thermal properties of the polymers such as curability and stability were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and infrared spectroscopy. The polymers exhibited a large exotherm in DSC analyses and underwent a curing reaction around 340-370$\^{C}$ to form insoluble materials. The polymers showed 70-80% residual weight at 600 $\^{C}$ under nitrogen.

  • In this study, the curing kinetics and thermal degradation of underfill were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo gravimetry analysis (TGA). The mechanical and thermal properties of underfill were characterized using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA). Also, we presented on underfill dispensing process using Prostar tool. The non-isothermal DSC scans at various heating rates, the exothermic reaction peak became narrower with increasing the heating rate. The thermal degradation of underfill was composed of two processes, which involved chemical reactions between the degrading polymer and oxygen from the air atmosphere. The results of fluidity phenomena were simulated using Star CD program, the fluidity of the underfills with lower viscosity was faster.

  • In the current research, the curing kinetics of a mixture system consisting of a Bisphenol-A type vinyl ester resin and styrene monomer was studied. Methylethylketone peroxide and cobalt octoate were used as the polymerization initiator and accelerator respectively. Thermograms with several different heating rates were obtained using non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry. Activation energy values analyzed by the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa isoconversional method showed a three-step change with conversion ${\alpha}$: a slight decrease initially for ${\alpha}$ < 0.1, a constant value of 47.9 kJ/mol in the range 0.1 < ${\alpha}$ < 0.7, and a slow increase for 0.7 < ${\alpha}$. When assuming a constant activation energy of 47.9 kJ/mol, an autocatalytic model of the Sestak-Berggren equation was considered as the proper mathematical model of the conversion function, indicating an overall order of 1.2.

  • The phase transformation behaviors of Ni-Ti shape memory alloys were investigated through a DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The annealing temperatures were applied from $600^{\circ}C,\;700^{\circ}C,\;800^{\circ}C,\;and\;900^{\circ}C$ for their effects on the phase transformation behaviors. Based on the results of DSC, phase transformation behaviors of shape memory alloys can be predicted by Liang's phase transformation model or Tanaka's phase transformation model.

  • The ageing behavior of Cu-bearing HSLA steels was studied by using Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), Transmission electron microscopy and hardness tester. Two heat evolution peaks were observed during DSC scans over the temperature range of 25~590$^{\circ}C$ at a heating rate of 5$^{\circ}C$/min. The peaks appeared in low (241∼319$^{\circ}C$ : HSLA-A, 224∼310$^{\circ}C$ : HSLA-B) and high temperature (514∼590$^{\circ}C$ : HSLA-A, 451∼558$^{\circ}C$ : HSLA-B) are attributed to the formation of coherent Cu-clusters and noncoherent $\varepsilon$-Cu phase, respectively. It was confirmed that as ageing proceeds, the coherent bcc Cu-clusters transform to noncoherent fcc $\varepsilon$-Cu phase. In the case of the ageing to peak hardness at 300$^{\circ}C$ and 400$^{\circ}C$, the coherent Cu-clusters contributed to the hardening. As ageing time and temperature increase over peak hardness, noncoherent $\varepsilon$-Cu are formed and hardness decreases.

  • The radiation-induced changes taking place in poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) exposed to $^{60}Co$ $\gamma-ray$ irradiation were investigated in correlation with the applied doses. Samples were irradiated in air at room temperature by $^{60}Co$ $\gamma-ray$ to doses in the range of 200 to 1000kGy. Various properties of the irradiated PVDF were studied using FTIR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), gel fraction and elongation. $^{60}Co\gamma-ray$ irradiation was found to induce changes in chemical, thermal, mechanical and structural properties of PVDF and such changes vary depending on the radiation dose.

  • The relative retrogradation of Jeungpyun investigated with different millimg methods of rice flour. The relative retrogradation of Jeungpyun was reduced in order that of W-C, W-P, D-M, D-J in DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry) method while W-C, D-M, D-J, W-P in Diastase method. In wet milling method, the relative retrogradation of Jeungpyun by Pin mill(W-P) was lower than Jeungpyun by colloid mill(W-C). In dry milling method, the relative retrogration of Jeungpyun by jet mill(D-J) was lower than Jeungpyun by micro mill(D-M). The relative retrogradation of Jeungpyun by DSC method was similar to the Diastase method. The relative retrogradation of Jeungpyun was decreased with decreasing particle size and setback value for amylogram and increasing damaged starch.
