  • In this paper, we investigated the signal-to-noise ratio improvement in a differential detector, which is a function of the optical noise coupling ratio and the differential gain ratio. A differential detector consists of two photodiodes and a differential amplifier. The differential detector reduced the noise component and improved the signal-to-noise ratio by about 20 dB when the differential gain ratio equals to the optical noise coupling ratio. The differential detector is very effective in removing the environmental optical noise or interference from an adjacent optical channel. This method is also effective when the noise wavelength is similar to the signal.

  • Exposure to the outside, the concrete is differential moisture distribution depending on the depth. Such a differential moisture distribution causes the differential drying shrinkage in concrete structures. This thesis is researched to compare the shrinkage of lightweight concrete depending on depth to normal concrete. It is used artificial lightweight aggregate which has 20% of pre-absorb value by lightweight concrete. When water-binder ratio is 30%, average shrinkage of lightweight concrete section decreased than normal concrete, but differential shrinkage of lightweight concrete section increased. However water-binder ratio is 40% and 50% average shrinkage and differential shrinkage of lightweight concrete section decreased than normal concrete.

  • Power transformers are applied throughout the power system to connect systems of different voltage to one another. Since a ratio differential relay offers high sensitivity in detection of internal faults in power transformers, it is widely used in the main protection system. The use of nonlinear devices such as rectifiers and other devices utilizing solid state switching have been increased in industry during recent years. For nonlinear loads, the load current is not proportional to the instantaneous voltage. This situation creates harmonic distortion on the system. The harmonic could differential relay misoperation if not recognized. This paper aims at analyzing and probing into the influences of harmonics on a ratio differential relay for power transformer protection.

  • In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a Timoshenko cantilever beam subjected to follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cantilever beam as slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton;s principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and tip mass on the critical follower force and the natural frequency of a Timoshenko beam are investigated.

  • In this paper the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a cracked Timoshenko cantilever beams subjected to subtangential follower force. In addition, an analysis of the stability of a cantilever beam as the crack effect and slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force are derived via Hamilton's principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. By using the results of this paper, we can obtain the judgment base that the choice of beam models for the effect of slenderness ratio and crack.

  • An adaptive beamforming system based on code filtering and differential correlation approaches is proposed. The differential correlation method was originally proposed for time delay estimation of direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems under near-far ratio conditions and the code filtering correlation algorithm, on the other hand, was proposed for array response estimation in DS-CDMA systems under perfect power control. In this paper, by combining differential correlation concept with the code filtering beamforming technology, an accurate estimate of the beam forming weights and an enhanced performance of DS-CDMA systems under sever near-far ratio conditions is achieved. The system performance in terms of beam pattern and bit-error-rate (HER) shows that the proposed adaptive beamformer outperforms the conventional code filtering correlation technique.

  • The fault current of the power transmission system is greater than that of the power distribution system. Therefore, the introduction of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is more needed to reduce the increased fault current. The trigger-type SFCL consists of the high-temperature superconducting element (HTSC), the current limiting reactor (CLR) and the circuit breaker (CB). The trigger-type SFCL can be used to supplement the disadvantages of the resistive-type SFCL. The operation characteristics of the current ratio differential relay which is usually applied to the protection device of the power transmission system are expected to be affected under fault conditions and the applicability of the trigger-type SFCL. In this paper, we analyzed the operating characteristics, by the fault conditions, between the current ratio differential relay for line protection and the trigger-type SFCL in the power transmission system through the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

  • Annealing characteristics of an oxygen free copper (OFC) processed by differential speed rolling (DSR) were investigated in detail. An OFC sample with a thickness of hum was rolled to 35% reduction at ambient temperature without lubrication, varying the differential speed ratio from 1.0:1 to 2.2:1, and then annealed for 0.5h at various temperatures from 100 to $400^{\circ}C$. Different recrystallization behavior was observed depending on the differential speed ratio, especially in the case of annealing at $200^{\circ}C$ Complete recrystallization occurred in the specimens annealed at temperatures above $250^{\circ}C$ regardless of the differential ratios. The hardness distribution in the thickness direction of the rolled OFC sheets varied depending on the differential speed ratios. These annealing characteristics were explained by the magnitude of shear strain introduced during rolling.

  • This paper introduces a sigma-delta DAC with a fully-differential current-mode semidigital IFIR postfilter. A proposed fully-differential postfilter exhibits not only an improved SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) but also a reduced opwer dissipation.
