The DGs (Diesel Generators) in NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) has been used for the emergency electric power source to shut down the nuclear reactor safely in case of station blackout. The RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) has been applied to DGs for increasing the safety of NPP. The structured defects of DG were not remedied by the improvement of maintenance method. As the first stage of RCM, to find the structured defects, its failure modes were searched and analyzed through the ten year maintenance information. The structured defects such as the air compressor, the lubricating oil pressure, and the insufficient load were the root causes of main failures. The air reservoir reinstallation, the lubricating oil tube modification, the load bank installation, and the qualitative instrumentation were the solutions for the hardware oriented RCM of DGs. There remains the software oriented RCM such as the rejection of useless maintenance, the preventive maintenance, the database of maintenance information, and the predictive maintenance.

Because diesel generator excitation systems in the nuclear power generating station are included among safety related c1asses(and Class 1E), they have been supposed to apply in the nuclear power generating stations through equipment qualification by nuclear law and so on. So, they has been controlled and assured completely by quality assurance throughout the total development journey. This paper looks into the journey of development of diesel generator excitation systems in the nuclear power generating station.
In order to provide the necessary operation flexibility during the Nuclear power operation, the extension of existing allowed outage time(AOT) is needed. The extension of AOT affects the Nuclear power plant safety. The validity of changed technical specification requirements should be proved by the safety assessments. In this paper, we evaluated the extension of emergency diesel generator AOT for a single inoperable emergency diesel generator(EDG) from 3days to 7days, 10days and 14days. Finally, the AOT extension contributes the NPP performances through decreasing the unexpected plant trips, reinforcing maintenance and avoiding risks due to unnecessary operation mode changes when the NPP is under the surveillance tests or maintenance.

In this paper the recent studies of digital governor for the Diesel Engine in Korea is summarized and that of usage in the marine and land field as of power plant is analyzed for the interest and development of the enterprise with relation with relation to this industrial part. Our investigation shows that until now the studies on the digitl governor are mainly carried out in KMU and land usage for the power plants is increased gradually because reliance of digital governor is improved and system for the maneuvering and monitoring the plants is computerized.

A generator is in use for a moving vehicle like car, aircraft, ship as well as key industry including a thermal power plant, a water power plant, a nuclear power plant, and so on. Such the AC generator plays an important role in vehicle, ship, aircraft, and so forth, at the point of generating electric power. Especially in the matter of the ship, the emergency generator system is mounted to provide against malfunction of main generator on a voyage. So, it is ordered that the system can monitor the main generator and operate the emergency generator when the emergency happens. This study is about controller for the emergency diesel engine generator and design of a various software.

Recently, lack of power reserve margin was observed quite often. In this paper, we studied the method to secure power source for a short time, to cut the utility power peak load, and to reduce the users electricity bills. Emergency diesel generator of an office building is to be converted into a dual-fuel engine generator which is responsible for a portion of the peak load. Compared to the conventional diesel fuel generator, the proposed dual-fuel engine is able to reduce the generation power cost by dual-fuel combustion, and it also mitigates the building's utility power peak load by charging the building's peak load. If the dead resources (a group of emergency dual-fuel engine generators), as a Virtual Power Plant, are operating in peak time, we can significantly reduce future large power development costs. We investigated the current general purpose electricity bills as well as the records of the building electric power usage, and calculated diesel engine generator renovation costs, generation fuel costs, driving conditions, and savings in electricity bills. The proposed dual-fuel engine generation method reduces 18.1% of utility power peak load, and turned out to be highly attractive investment alternative which shows more than 27% of IRR, 76 million won of NPV, and 20~53 months of payback periods. The results of this study are expected to be useful to developing the policy & strategy of the energy department.
Station blackout (SBO) risk is one of the most significant contributors to nuclear power plant risk. In this paper, the sequence probability formulas derived by the convolution approach are compared with those derived by the conventional event tree/fault tree (ET/FT) approach for the SBO situation in which emergency diesel generators fail to start. The comparison identifies what makes the ET/FT approach more conservative and raises the issue regarding the mission time of a turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater pump (TDP), which suggests a possible modeling improvement in the ET/FT approach. Monte Carlo simulations with up-to-date component reliability data validate the convolution approach. The sequence probability of an alternative alternating current diesel generator (AAC DG) failing to start and the TDP failing to operate owing to battery depletion contributes most to the SBO risk. The probability overestimation of the scenario in which the AAC DG fails to run and the TDP fails to operate owing to battery depletion contributes most to the SBO risk overestimation determined by the ET/FT approach. The modification of the TDP mission time renders the sequence probabilities determined by the ET/FT approach more consistent with those determined by the convolution approach.

The Emergency Diesel Generator(EDG) is a very important piece of equipment for the safety of a Nuclear Power Plant(NPP). In this study, the operating vibration or three kinds or EDG system was measured. The target EDG systems art Yonggwang 5 unit, Ulchin 2 unit and Ulchin 3 unit. The Yonggwang 5 and Ulchin 3 unit EDG system is the same type but the foundation systems are different. One is an anchor bolt type and the other is a spring and viscous-damper type. The purpose of this measurement is for a verification of the vibration isolation effect according to the foundation system. As a result. it can he said that the spring and viscous damper system of the EDG performed well for the vibration isolation.
