As a forming method for curved hull plates more efficient than the flame bending, mechanical bending using multi point press forming and die-less forming is discussed in this paper. the mechanical forming is a flexible manufacturing system for automatically forming of hull parts. It is especially suited to varied curved parts. This paper discusses a multiple point pressing machine composed of a pair of reconfigurable punches in order to achieve the rapid forming of curved hull plates using division forming and presents how forming information is obtained from the given design surface. Although the mechanical forming can be efficient in the metal forming, spring back after pressing is a phenomenon which must be carefully considered when quantifying the process variables. If the spring back is not accurately controlled, the fabricated shell plate cannot meet assembly tolerance. This paper describes the principles to calculate the proper stroke of each punch at the divided areas. the strokes are determined by an iterative process of sequential pressing and spring back compensation from an unfolded flat shape to its given design surface. FEA(finite element analysis) is used to simulate the spring back of the plate and the IDA(iterative displacement adjustment) method adjusts the offset of pressing punches from the deformation results and the design surface. The shape deviations of two surfaces due to spring back are compensated by integrated system using FEA and IDA method. For the practical application, It is aimed to develop an integrated system that can automatically perform the compensation process and calculate strokes of punches of the double sides' reconfigurable multiple-press machine and some experimental results obtained with mechanical bending are presented.
Graphite and $MoS_2$ were added respectively to the Cu/Sn bond materials of the same composition as a lubricant in order to find out the effect of lubricants on the mechanical properties and the increase in density of the sintered products for microblades. The addition of $MoS_2$ as a lubricant was more beneficial to strength, fracture toughness, and hardness as well as densification than graphite. $MoS_2$ seemed to be more effective in reducing the friction between the metallic powders and die wall during hot pressing process. Due to the better wettability of MoS2 with bond metal alloy, less amount of interfacial defects which is detrimental to mechanical properties use observed.
The strain state during the continuous confined strip shearing (CCSS) based on ECAP was tackled by means of a two-dimensional FEM analysis. The deformation of AA 1100 sheet in the CCSS apparatus was composed of three distinct processes of rolling, bending and shearing. The pronounced difference in the friction conditions on the upper and lower roll surfaces led to the different variation of the strain component ${epsilon}_13$ throughout the thickness of the aluminum sheet. Strain accompanying bending was negligible because of a large radius of curvature. The shear deformation was concentrated at the corner of the CCSSchannel where the abrupt change in the direction of material flow occurred. The process variables involving the CCSS-die design and frictions between tools and strip influenced the evolution of shear strains during CCSS.

In this paper, a new approach to finite element analysis for tube swaging is presented. An analysis model is developed with emphasis on the pusher that imposes back pressure in order to keep the workpiece from slipping along the die-workpiece interface especially when tapered dies are used. A rigid-plastic finite element method is employed. The approach is to simulate the tube swaging process and the results are compared quantitatively with predictions, showing close agreement with each other.
The influences of TiB2 additions to the β-sialon on mechanical propeties and electrical discharge machinability were investigated. Samples were prepared by adding 15, 30 and 45 vol.% TiB2 particles as a second phase to a β-sialon matrix. The β-sialon-TiB2 composites were sintered by hot pressing in a nitrogen atmosphere at 1800℃ with pressure of 30 MPa. The fracture toughness of the composites was increased with TiB2 content except 45 vol.% TiB2 composite. The crack propagation and crack deflection were observed with a SEM for etched samples after vicker's indentation. The composites containing more than 30 vol.% TiB3 had resistivity lower than 10-3 Ω㎝. The electrical discharge machining (EDM) of composited was conducted with two kind of machines such as die-sinker and wire cutter. The machinability was evaluated with the cutting rate surface roughness after machining.
Mn-Zn ferrite powders were prepared by alcoholic dehydration, using coprecipitation method. Then the effects of organic dispersant and polymeric binder concentration on stability and casting of slurry were discussed. Citric acid, the organic dispersant and polyvinylacohol(PVA), the non-ionic binder, were selected as additives of slurry. With variation of concentration of water, citric acid and polyvinylalcohol(PVA), optimum forming conditions were determined from viscosity and density. To compare with dry process, density and microstructure of sintered body formed by uniaxial die pressing were observed.

Superalloys with many strengthening alloying elements are frequently used in powder form to alleviate harmful effects of alloy segregation. HIP (hot isostatic pressing) and DB (diffusion bonding) as a form of solid-state bonding process is often used to make turbine components, such as integrated turbine rotors. HIP/DB process requires many technical overcomes related to dimensional changes as well as microstructural control. In this research, HIP/DB process for nickel base superalloys, Udimet 720, were investigated with a view to control the dimensional change during the consolidation process. Simple disc-shaped cans were used to select the conceptual die design for the control of the dimensional change especially in radial direction. The change in the shape of consolidated shape was investigated using commercial FE code with constitutive equations for low temperature plasticity and creep deformation.
A new hot-forming process has been studied to produce anisotropic Nd-Fe-B based magnets from melt-spun ribbons. The ribbon fragments were inserted in a Cu tube and hot-deformed together with one-stroke. At a height reduction ratio of 0.44, the melt-spun ribbons were densified into a magnet with a density of 7.14 g/cm3, and showed a (BH)max of 14.6 MGOe. With further deformation, the magnets were plastically deformed with Cu tubes in the lateral direction, and crystallographic anisotropy was introduced. The magnets with a height reduction ratio of 0.75 exhibited magnetic properties of (BH)max = 32.1 MGOe, Br = 11.7 kG, and iHc = 10.6 kOe. This process shows the possibility that the conventional hot-pressing and subsequent die-upsetting for anisotropic magnets can be simplified into a one-step process.

Densification behavior of various metal and ceramic powder was investigated under cold compaction. The Cap model was proposed based on the parameters obtained from axial and radial deformation of sintered metal powder compacts under uniaxial compression and volumetric strain evolution. For ceramic powder, the parameters were obtained from deformation of green powder compacts under triaxial compression. The Cap model was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data for densification behavior of various metal and ceramic powder under cold compaction.

The effect of chemical composition of the sintering atmosphere on density, microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-3%Mn-(Cr)-(Mo)-0.3%C steels is described. Pre-alloyed Astaloy CrM and CrL, ferromanganese and graphite were used as the starting powders. Following pressing in a rigid die, compacts were sintered at 1120 and $1250^{\circ}C$ in atmospheres having different $H_2/N_2$ ratio and furnace cooled to room temperature. It has been found that the atmosphere composition has negligible effect on the as-sintered properties of the investigated materials.
