  • This paper Presents the fabrication and test of a micropump that can be applied to an implantable cerebrospinal fluid shunt system for hydrocephalus patients The proposed micropump consists of a pair of corrugated parylene diaphragm chambers and a set of nozzle and diffuser. The electromagnetic force drives the diaphragms and pumps the fluid. The static or dynamic characteristics of the fabricated devices have been obtained experimentally. The site of the micropump is $14 \times 12 \times 8mm^3$. The flow rate increase by about $3 mell/h$ was observed in the operational pressure range the micropump.

  • Core technologies for integrating hydrogen gas sensor were investigated. In this study, the thermally isolated micro-hot-plate with areas of $100{\times}100-260{\times}260{\mu}m^2$ was fabricated by utilizing surface micromachining technique that provides better manufacturing yield than bulk micromachining counterpart. The optimum design of the sensor was peformed by analyzing the thermal profile of the structure obtained from a ANSYS simulator. The 400-nm-thick polysilicon films doped with phosphorus, the 300-nm-thick aluminum films, and the 200-nm-thick $SnO_2$(or ZnO)films were used as the micro-heater material, the temperature sensor material, and the gas sensitive material, respectively. The experimental results show that the developed gas sensors can detect $H_2$ concentration as low as 1 ppm.

  • Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital malformation characterized by a cystic portion of the lung that derives its arterial blood supply through aberrant vessel directly of systemic circulation. Two forms of pulmonary sequestration occur; intralobar sequestration is usually contained within the visceral pleura of a pulmonary lobe and its venous drainage to the pulmonary venous system. We presented on case of intralobar pulmonary sequestration with A-V fistula. The patient was 8 years old male and chief complaints are mild fever and exertional dyspnea. Aortogram revealed an aberrant artery originated from thoracic aorta just above the diaphragm and its vessel directly communicated pulmonary vein in sequestrated segment. At time of operation, sequestrated lobe measuring 6x5x5cm, well demarcated at the lower lobe was noted. Aberrant, measuring 1.0cm in diameter and 1cm in length and directly connected pulmonary vein. After division and ligation of the aberrant artery, only excision of sequestrated lobe was performed and complication is not during postoperative course.

  • Flexure bearings have been used in linear-resonant compressors to maintain a non-contacting clearance seal between the piston and cylinder. There are two types of tangential cantilever bearing and spiral arm bearing with flexure bearings. A newly devised linear flexure bearing (KIMM-Ml) for compression refrigeration machines is disclosed having improved tight gas clearance maintaining capability for better system performance. KIMM-Ml is an integrated device comprising an axially moving diaphragm with circumferentially arranged arc-shaped flexure blades secured between rim and hub spacers, which turn out to have higher radial stiffness than the one with circumferential tangential cantilever flexure blades. It is expected for KIMM-Ml to play a key role in designing long life, special purpose compression refrigeration machines by providing frictionless, non-wearing, linear movement and radial support for the machines as well as a gas clearance seal by maintaining extremely tight clearances between piston and cylinder.

  • This paper reports on the fabrication process and characteristics of a ceramic thin-film pressure sensor based on Ta-N strain-gauges for harsh environment applications. The Ta-N thin-film strain-gauges are sputter-deposited on a thermally oxidized micromachined Si diaphragms with buried cavities for overpressure tolerance. The proposed device takes advantage of the good mechanical properties of single-crystalline Si as a diaphragm fabricated by SDB and electrochemical etch-stop technology, and in order to extend the temperature range, it has relatively higher resistance, stability and gauge factor of Ta-N thin-films more than other gauges. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high-sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability. The sensitivity is 1.21 ~ 1.097 mV/V.kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in temperature ranges of 25~ $200^{\circ}C$ and a maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

  • Abeno Harukas is the tallest building in Japan and is located in Abeno, which is one of the three main railway transport nodes in Osaka. This building has a height of 300 meters, and its lowest levels are 30 meters below ground. It contains a department store, museum, offices, a hotel, and an observatory. In this urban renewal project, a section of the department store that encloses the station was dismantled and replaced by a supertall building complex, while infrastructure was simultaneously constructed, including: upgrades to the station and the existing department store, improved connections to the subway and pedestrian bridges, and a new pedestrian walkway over the road. In this paper, the ingenious erection processes, newly developed technologies, and precise construction management techniques are introduced for Japan's tallest building.

Main tower fixing department of this cable stayed bridge is consisted of main tower flange that support bearing plate, bay ring plate bearing plate, support end rib and diaphragm etc, as stress transmission mechanic that tensility of cable socket into normal force of main tower, and is used this time. These structural elements is very complex the structure and direction of load delivered from socket specially calbe particularly be different, and need FEM analysis that use Thick Shell element for suitable arrangement of mutual stress flowing grasping and absence that follow hereupon because all of the each support plate angle that suport this differ.

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is usually contained within the visceral pleura of a pulmonary lobe and its venous drainage to the pulmonary venous system. We experienced a case of pulmonary sequestration postoperatively confirmed. The patient was 48-year-old female whose complaints were cough and left chest pain. Chest film showed large homogenous opacity in left lower lung field. By operation, adult fist sized mass at the lower lobe were noted. An aberrant artery, measuring 1.0 cm. in diameter and 2.0 cm. in length, arose from the descending thoracic aorta just above the diaphragm. The anomalous systemic artery was ligatures and resection, and associated with left middle, lower bilobectomy was done. The postoperative course was uneventful, and 10 days later discharged.

  • Transient analysis for compressible fluid flow has been performed experimentally and analytically to study the dynamic characteristics of the end volume transmission lines following a sudden pressure change a its entrance. The numerical method was developed based on the method of characteristics. The sudden pressure at its entrance was generated by rupture of diaphragm in a shock tube. The sudden pressure was used to obtain the response, as input signal for the numerical analysis. The response to the sudden pressure at the end volume was measured using a pressure transducer. The experimental result shows good agreements with the numerical result. The effects of tube length, its diameter and end volume magnitude are evaluated on the responses of the pressure and on the damping factor. It is found that the viscous damping effects on the response through the transmission pipeline becomes larger with increasing pi;eline length and decreasing diameter of the pipe and the fluid-elastic stiffness decreases with increasing the terminal volume. The numerical approach presented in this paper can be very useful in designing the instrument and control system.
