Influence of Various Sources of Non-Protein Nitrogenous Sources on In vitro Fermentation Patterns of Rumen Microbes

  • The effect of replacement of cotton seed meal (CSM), with various levels and sources of non-protein nitrogenous (NPN), substances on in vitro ruminal fermentation were studied. Cotton seed meal, in control ration provided nitrogen equivalent to 12.5 percent crude protein while in experimental ration was replaced at 30, 50 & 70 percent levels with urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and biuret, respectively. The results of incubation upto 48 hours indicated an improvement in digestibility by replacement of CSM with urea and biuret upto 50 percent protein equivalent, but not with DAP. Bacterial count from cultures containing 50% nitrogen from biuret was significantly higher than DAP, urea and CSM. Various sources of nitrogen produced $NH_3-N$ in increasing order of CSM, biuret, DAP and urea. Increasing levels of NPN resulted in progressive increase in the levels of $NH_3-N$. The levels of various NPN sources had no effect on pH. However, the pH values determined for urea and CSM were higher than biuret and DAP.

암모늄염으로 처리된 리기다 소나무의 연소특성 (Combustive Characteristics of Pinus Rigida Treated with Ammonium Salts)

  • 이 연구에서는 암모늄염을 처리한 리기다 소나무의 연소성을 시험하였다. 실온에서 3종류의 암모늄염 즉, 황산암모늄, 제1인산암모늄, 그리고 제2인산암모늄의 20wt% 수용액에 각각 리기다 소나무를 함침시켜 건조시킨 후 콘칼로리미터(ISO 5660-1)를 이용하여 그의 연소성을 시험하였다. 암모늄염으로 처리한 시험편은 처리하지 않은 시험편에 비하여 그의 연소성을 감소 시켰다. 이것은 연소 억제성이 순수 리기다 소나무 시험편에 처리한 암모늄염 때문에 향상된 것으로 생각된다. 또한 암모늄염으로 처리한 시험편은 처리하지 않은 시험편에 비해 낮은 최대열방출률과 낮은 총방출열량을 나타내었다.

난연처리 국산 침엽수재의 연소특성 분석 (Combustion Characteristics of Fire Retardants Treated Domestic Wood)

  • In this study, we measured that fire characteristics of four wood species using indoor finish materials. Wooden specimens were treated with fire retardant chemicals such as diammonium phosphate and potassium carbonate. The wooden specimens are Larix kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, Cryptomeria japonica, and Chamaecyparis obtusa, which are used for indoor finish. The heat release rate (HRR) values of fire retardant treated woods were confirmed lower than that of untreated woods. For specific details, the HRR values of vacuum impregnated specimens for Pinus koraiensis and Cryptomeria japonica were measured lower than coatings. However, those of Larix kaempferi and Chamaecyparis obtusa showed the opposite effect to it. Total heat release rate values of all wooden specimens, vacuum impregnated were lower than coated specimens.

  • 라디에타소나무, 케루잉, 딜레니아, 터미날리아 및 칼로필롬 단판에 내화약제로서 20% 제2인산암모늄 수용액을 상압 침지 및 진공가압침지 처리한 시험을 실시 하였으며, 라디에타소나무와 케루잉 단판의 구성형태와 내화약제의 침지처리 조건들을 여러형태로 조합한 합판을 요소 멜라민 수지와 페놀수지 접착제를 사용하여 제조하였다. 결과, 라디에타소나무가 케루잉보다 약제보유도 및 처리효과가 뛰어났으며, 진공가압침지가 상압침지보다 약제보유면에서는 유효하였다. 그리고, 기계적 성질에 있어 단판첨지법으로 내화처리를 하여 제조한 합판이 반드시 접착력 및 휨강도적 성질의 저하를 가져오지는 않았으며, 내화성에 있어서는 요소 멜라민수지 접착이 우수한 성능을 보였다. 결과적으로, 접착 강도성능과 내화성능을 고려한 단판 수종의 적정한 선택, 층간구성(조합) 및 교호약제처리가 실제 사용시 가능할 것이다.

성복토용 순환잔골재의 pH 저감방법에 관한 연구 (Study on pH Reducing Method of Recycled Fine Aggregate for Embanking or Covering)

  • 순환골재가 복토 및 성토용으로 활용되는 경우 순환골재 표면의 미수화 시멘트로부터 발생하는 높은 pH의 침출수는 환경에 큰 영향을 주는 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 높은 pH의 침출수를 방지하기 위해 순환골재의 효율적인 알칼리 제거 방안에 대해 실험적으로 비교분석 하였다. 실험결과 순환골재의 높은 알칼리성을 감소시키기 위해서는 단순 야적 및 물을 이용한 씻기 방법보다는 비료를 사용한 처리방법이 가장 유리한 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 본 연구에서는 비료의 종류인 인산암모늄과 이인산암모늄을 활용하여 순환골재를 중화시켰고 그 결과 약 3주 만에 pH 8의 중성에 가까운 순환잔골재를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 순환골재를 토공사용으로 사용할 때에 보다 환경에 안전한 지속가능한 재료로서 활용하는 데에 기여할 것으로 예상한다.

Nanostructured Hydroxyapatite for Biomedical Applications: From Powder to Bioceramic

  • In this study, a wet chemical method was used to synthesize nanostructured hydroxyapatite for biomedical applications. Diammonium hydrogen phosphate and calcium nitrate 4-hydrate were used as starting materials with a sodium hydroxide solution as an agent for pH adjustment. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) titration analysis were used to characterize the synthesized powders. Having been uniaxially pressed, the powders formed a disk-like shape. The sinterability and electrical properties of the samples were examined, and the three-point bending test allowed for the measurement of their mechanical properties. Sedimentation analysis was used to analyze the slurry ability of hydroxyapatite. As in-vitro biological properties of the samples, biocompatibility and cytotoxicity were assessed using osteoblast-like cells and the L929 cell line, respectively. Solubility was assessed by employing a simulated body fluid.

제지 슬러지-목재 파티클 혼합보드의 내화성과 기계적 성질 (Fire Retardancy and Mechanical Properties of Paper Sludge-Wood Particle Mixed Board)

  • This research carried out to investigate the effects of inorganic materials in paper sludge on the thermal degradation and of paper sludge addition on physical and mechanical properties of paper sludge-wood particle mixed boards in comparison with unmodified particleboards. Also these unmodified particleboards and paper sludge-wood particle mixed boards were soaked in aqueous solutions of fire-retardant chemicals(diammonium phosphate and zinc chloride), and their fire retardancy were tested by oxygen index method and ISO ignition test to determine the feasibility of paper sludge, industrial waste, as a recyclable resource in fabrication of fire-resisting panels for building material. Since the redrying of fire-retardant treated particleboards and paper sludge-wood particle mixed boards were made by press drying method, this process was a simple and effective method. On the other hand, flexural bending strength and internal bonding strength were also analysed to evaluate mechanical properties through standard method.

Effect of Fertilizers and Neem Cake Amendment in Soil on Spore Germination of Arthrobotrys dactyloides

  • Application of fertilizers such as urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash in soil adversely affected the spore germination of Arthrobotrys dactyloides. Amendment of soil with urea at the concentrations of 1.0%, 0.5% and 0.1 % completely inhibited spore germination and direct trap formation on the conidium, whereas muriate of potash delayed and reduced the spore germination even at the lowest concentration. DAP also inhibited spore germination at 1.0% concentration, while at lower concentration the percentage of spore germination was reduced. Application of neem cake at the concentration of 0.5% also inhibited spore germination after 24 h of amendment. The inhibitory effect of neem cake was reduced after 15 days of amendment, while after 30 days after amendment the inhibitory effect was completely lost and the spore germinated by direct trap as in unamended soil. Nematodes were not attracted to ungerminated spores after 24 h of amendment. After 15 days of amendment nematodes were attracted to agar blocks containing fewer germinated spores after 24 h of incubation but after 48 h of incubation large number of nematodes were attracted and trapped by the germinated spores with direct traps. After 30 days of amendment, larger number of nematodes were attracted and trapped by direct traps.

Electrochemical and Thermal Property Enhancement of Natural Graphite Electrodes via a Phosphorus and Nitrogen Incorporating Surface Treatment

  • An efficient wet process approach to modifying natural graphite (NG) electrodes for Li-ion batteries is introduced in this paper. With homogeneous mixing and thermal decomposition of NG with diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4), phosphorus and nitrogen were successfully incorporated into the surface layer of NG particles. Electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses demonstrated that the surface was well modified by this process. As a result, the treated NG electrodes exhibited much improved electrochemical performance over pristine NG at two different temperatures: 25 ℃ and 50 ℃. Excellent capacity retention of 95.6% was obtained after 100 cycles at 50 ℃. These enhanced properties were confirmed in a morphology analysis on the cross-sections of the NG electrodes after galvanostatic cycling. The improved cycle and thermal stabilities can be attributed to the surface treatment with phosphorus and nitrogen; the treatment formed a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer that performed well when undergoing Li insertion and extraction cycling.

  • A method to automate hazard analysis of chemical plants is proposed in this paper. The proposed system is composed of three knowledge bases - unit knowledge base, organizational knowledge base and material knowledge base, and three hazard analysis algorithms - deviation, malfunction and accident analysis algorithm. Hazard analysis inference procedure is developed based on the actual hazard analysis procedures and accident development sequence. The proposed algorithm can perform hazard analysis in two methods and represent all conceivable types of accidents using accident analysis algorithm. In addition, it provides intermediate steps in the accident propagation, and enables the analysis result to give a useful information to hazard assessment. The proposed method is successfully demonstrated by being applied to diammonium phosphate manufacturing process. A system to automate hazard analysis is developed by using the suggested method. The developed system is expected to be useful in finding the propagation path of a fault or the cause of a malfunction as it is capable to approach causes of faults and malfunctions simultaneously.
