  • The rate constants for the following vibration-to-vibration energy exchange reactions have been calculated theoretically for the temperature range from 300 to 800K and for n = 2 to 5. HF(v=n) + DF(v=0) ${\to}$ HF(v=n-l) + DF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(a) DF(v=n) + HF(v=0) ${\to}$ DF(v=n-l) + HF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(b) In calculation the loosely-held, non-rigid dimer collision model and semiclassical method have been employed. The results show that the rate constants for the processes (a) are much greater than those for the processes (b). Also, it is found that the rate constants for the processes (a) increase with decreasing temperature and with increasing quantum number, while those for the processes (b) show the opposite tendencies. These findings are explained in terms of the sign and magnitude of the energy mismatch, ${\Delta}E$.

  • Let M and N be compact Riemannian manifolds and $f : M \to N$ be a smooth map. Following J. Eells, f is exponentially harmonic if it represents a critical point of the exponential energy integral $$ E(f) = \int_{M} exp(\left\$\mid$ df \right\$\mid$^2) dM $$ where $(\left\ df $\mid$\right\$\mid$^2$ is the energy density defined as $\sum_{i=1}^{m} \left\$\mid$ df(e_i) \right\$\mid$^2$, m = dimM, for orthonormal frame $e_i$ of M. The Euler- Lagrange equation of the exponential energy functional E can be written $$ exp(\left\$\mid$ df \right\$\mid$^2)(\tau(f) + df(\nabla\left\$\mid$ df \right\$\mid$^2)) = 0 $$ where $\tau(f)$ is the tension field along f. Hence, if the energy density is constant, every harmonic map is exponentially harmonic and vice versa.

  • Electronic nose (E-nose) was assessed for grading pungency of powdered red pepper. Complex pretreatments are not required for flavor analysis unlike HPLC or Scoville tests. Mild and pungent taste of powdered red pepper were mixed at various concentrations of 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%. Those were analyzed using mass spectrometer-based E-nose. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) was conducted on E-nose data. The $R^{2}$ and F-value of dicriminant function first score (DF1) were 0.9946 and 355.65, respectively, when the samples were separated by a relative degree of pungent taste. DF1 value decreased with increasing the amount of powdered red pepper with a pungent taste. It is similar to the increase in the concentration of capsaicin. Increasing the amount of red pepper powder, dicriminant function second score (DF2) values were moved from the negative position into the positive position. The $R^{2}$ and F-value of DF1 were 0.9890, 165.17 and DF2 were 0.9219, 21.64. Also, the results by MS based E-nose agreed to that by HPLC. There is the potential to grade pungent taste of powdered red pepper using the E-nose.

  • Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) and Design for Environment(DfE) method were applied to design the environmentally sound manufacturing process of f31k lift in this study. Not only external movement of LCA and DfE method in the legal and systemic phase, but also active researches of those in the development phase of case study and application to the industrial field, have been going on. In concretely, the manufacturing processes of the folk lift generating the most environmental impact were examined by applying LCA method, and the environmentally sound manufacturing process was designed by applying, DfE method to the processes. As the results of LCA, environmental impacts for the eco-toxicity and human toxicity of seven major environmental categories were in high value, and so be in the cutting & welding process and painting process among the manufacturing processes. High solid paints, increasing the solid content of the existing solvent paints used in painting process, were developed to reduce the environmental impacts generated in the painting process. By utilizing the high solid paints, about 20% of environmental impacts (as environmental index of LCA) could be reduced.

  • The objective of this review was to provide an overview of the effects of dietary fiber (DF) on reproductive performance in gestating sows. Dietary fibers have been suggested to modulate microbiota in the intestine and the immune system of gestating sows and to improve gut health. Thus, DF may help alleviate the adverse effects of the stressful production cycle of gestating sows. These benefits may subsequently result in improved reproductive performance of sows. Previous studies have reported changes in microbiota by providing gestating sows with DF, and the responses of microbiota varied depending on the source of DF. The responses by providing DF to gestating sows were inconsistent for antioxidative capacity, hormonal response, and inflammatory response among the studies. The effects of DF on reproductive performance were also inconsistent among the previous studies. Potential reasons contributing to these inconsistent results would include variability in reproductive performance data, insufficient replication, influence of other nutrients contained in the DF diets, characteristics of DF, and experimental periods. The present meta-analysis suggests that increasing the total DF concentration by 10 percentage units (e.g., 12% to 22% as-fed basis) in gestating sow diets compared to the control group improves the litter born alive by 0.49 pigs per litter. However, based on the present review, questions remain regarding the benefits of fibers in gestating sow diets. Further research is warranted to clarify the mode of action of fibers and the association with subsequent reproductive performance in gestating sows.

  • Bacterial DNA containing immunostimulatory CpG motifs can stimulate antigen-presenting cells to express co-stimulatory molecules and to produce various cytokines in vivo and in vitro. In this study, we fragmented macromolecular E.coli genomic DNA with DNase I, and analyzed the ability of the resulting DNA fragments to induce the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation and humoral immune response. Furthermore, using computational analysis and luciferase assay for synthetic ODNs based on the sequence of the immunostimulatory DNA fragments (DF-ODNs), an active component of DF-ODNs sequences was investigated. Experimental results demonstrated that DF-ODN is optimal for the NF-${\kappa}B$-responsive promoter activation in the mouse macrophage cell line and the humoral immune response in vivo. In agreement with the activity of the DF-ODNs processed by DNase I, a synthetic ODN based on the DF-ODN sequences is potent at inducing IL-12 mRNA expression in primary dendritic cells. These results suggest that the discovery and characterization of a highly active natural CpG-ODN may be achieved by the analyses of bacterial DNA fragments generated by a nuclease activity.

  • Objective: Transgenic technology is widely used for industrial applications and basic research. Systems that allow for genetic modification play a crucial role in biotechnology for a number of purposes, including the functional analysis of specific genes and the production of exogenous proteins. In this study, we examined and verified the cumate-inducible transgene expression system in chicken DF1 and quail QM7 cells, as well as loxP element-mediated transgene recombination using Cre recombinase in DF1 cells. Methods: After stable transfer of the transgene with piggyBac transposon and transposase, transgene expression was induced by an appropriate concentration of cumate. Additionally, we showed that the transgene can be replaced with additional transgenes by co-transfection with the Cre recombinase expression vector. Results: In the cumate-GFP DF1 and QM7 cells, green fluorescent protein (GFP) expression was repressed in the off state in the absence of cumate, and the GFP transgene expression was successfully induced in the presence of cumate. In the cumate-MyoD DF1 cells, MyoD transgene expression was induced by cumate, and the genes controlled by MyoD were upregulated according to the number of days in culture. Additionally, for the translocation experiments, a stable enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP)-expressing DF1 cell line transfected with the loxP66-eGFP-loxP71 vector was established, and DsRed-positive and eGFP-negative cells were observed after 14 days of co-transfection with the DsRed transgene and Cre recombinase indicating that the eGFP transgene was excised, and the DsRed transgene was replaced by Cre recombination. Conclusion: Transgene induction or replacement cassette systems in avian cells can be applied in functional genomics studies of specific genes and adapted further for efficient generation of transgenic poultry to modulate target gene expression.

  • We have screened the microorganisms from pigs feces for the development of probiotics which have acid-and bile-tolerance. Among them, a strain which was identified as Enterococcu durans LP44 was selected. Sixty Duroc$\times$Yorkshire$\times$Landrace pigs (6.30$\pm$0.04 kg average initial body weight) were used in a 14 days growth assay to determine the effects of Enterococco duran Lf44 culture on growth performance of weaned pigs. Dietary treatments included 1) DF (dry feeding),2) W (wet feeding),3) WF+5ED (wet feeding+5% Enterocucu duran LP44 culture),4) WF+ 10ED (wet feeding +10% Enterococcus durans LP44 culture). For overall periods, average daily gain in pigs fed % diet tended to increase compared to pigs fed DF diet without significant difference. Also, there was no significant difference in gain/feed. At 5 days after the onset of the experiment, pigs fed WF+5ED and WF+10ED diets were significantly increased in dry matter and nitrogen digestibilities compared to pigs fed DF and W diets (p<0.05). At 14 days after the onset of the experiment, pigs fed WF+ 10ED diet were significantly increased in dry matter digestibility compared to pigs fed DF diet (p<0.05). Also, pigs fed WF + 10ED diet were significantly increased in nitrogen digestibility compared to other treatments (p<0.05). In conclusion, supplemental Enterococcus durans LP44 was an effective means of improving ADG and nutrient digestibility.

  • This paper proposes a novel two-way relaying (TWR) approach for a two-relay wireless network based on non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), where two terminals exchange messages with a cellular base station (BS) via two intermediate relay stations (RSs). We propose a NOMA-based TWR approach with two relaying schemes, i.e., amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF), referred to as NOMA-AF and NOMA-DF. The sum-rate performance of our proposed NOMA-AF and NOMA-DF is analyzed. A closed-form sum-rate upper bound for the NOMA-AF is obtained, and the exact ergodic sum-rate of NOMA-DF is also derived. The asymptotic sum-rate of NOMA-AF and NOMA-DF is also analyzed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms conventional orthogonal multiple access based transmission schemes. It is also shown that increasing the transmit power budget of the relays only cannot always improve the sum-rates.
