  • This study intended to investigate the characteristics of adolescent drug user in Korea. A questionnaire on adolescent drug use was administered to 1st or 2nd grade 898 students (465 males, 433 females) from 9 senior high schools in Seoul area. The extent of current using six representative drugs such as cigarettes, alcohol, chemical substance inducing hallucination(e,g., thinner, bond etc.), psychostimulant, hypnotic and minor tranqulizer was self-reported. Also their psychological distress, self-concept and individual-related variables such as academic grade, deviant behavior, drug-using peers, the perceived availability of drugs, the degree of family discipline, and the perceived parents' attitude for drinking and smoking were surveyed. Subjects were grouped into six(male) or five(female) subgroups (nonuser, simple experiencer, one kind of drug user, two kinds of drugs user, three kinds of drugs user(male only), minor tranqulizer user) to their extent of drug use. Then ANOVA procedure performed for group comparison of their psychological distress, self-concept and individual-related variables. The results showed that the most popular drugs among adolescents in Korea were cigarettes and alcohol. Minor tranqulizer was used by about 2.8% of male and 7.41% of female subjects. In general abusers showed lower academic grade, more deviant experiences, having more drug-using peers, higher degree of psychological distress, and lower postitive self-concept than nonuser group. According to the results of discriminant analysis, hostility and deviant behavior were reliable predictive variables that distinguished abuser group from nonuser group among the associated variables in this study. These results suggest that some common factors affect drug use of Korean high school students : high school students who have many common risk factors could be abusers more easily. These findings supported risk factor theory that the extent of drug use of adolescents might be associated with general maladjustment in everyday life.

  • Purpose - This study investigates the effects of thought suppression on depression and uneasiness among college students likely to be influenced by smart phone addiction. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 151 valid questionnaires were collected. The following analyses were conducted using SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0: frequency, descriptive statistics, correlation, simple regression, and multiple regression. Results - Smart phone addiction increased uneasiness, depression, impulsiveness, and aggression. Moreover, uneasiness, depression, impulsiveness and aggression from smart phone addiction, had a negative influence on psychological wellbeing resulting in potential delinquent behavior. In addition, the addiction treatment relied heavily on drugs; therefore, such psychological treatment should be strengthened to control intermittent addiction. Conclusions - The results indicate that various kinds of research are needed to investigate personality and environmental factors that influence smart phone addiction. Additionally, studies on lessening smart phone addiction and living healthy lifestyles are needed. Moreover, psychological rehabilitation and treatment should be developed to lessen the rebound effect after thought suppression, to verify the effects of clinical application, and to prevent intermittent addiction.

  • In Hwaseong, South Korea, it is necessary to vitalize local festival by attracting local residents and tourists since 'Hwaseong Songsan Grape Festival' should be in the direction to help the influx of tourists and cultural development for the local residents. It has been known that the quality and readiness of festival affects visitor satisfaction and actual visit. However, there have been only a few studies to examine the effect of local festival on post-behavior. Hence, this study, focusing on 'Hwaseong Songsan Grape Festival'which is a representative cultural tourism festival in the region of Hwaseong, South Korea, aims to understand the visitor's post-behavior intention in terms of revisit intention and recommendation intention. The results suggest that the impact of experiential, purchase visit motivation on post-behavior were smaller than deviant, social, interest, and cultural visit motivation. It also showed that visitor satisfaction leads to revisit intention and at the same time recommendation intention. Based on the result, we suggest practical implication for the success of local festival including 'Hwaseong Songsan Grape Festival'.

  • Despite the extant quantum communication technology that does not allow copying, wiretapping, and/or monitoring, cyber-terror-attempts from hackers with unconscientious purposes and motives are prospected to persist. Hence, it is imperative and necessary to invest in studies geared toward understanding the psychology of hackers. The current study referred to Beebe & Clark (2006) and sought out the psychological variables in hackers involved in deviant hacking activities, measured the purpose of hacking and actual hacking experiences, and constructed a predictive model that can categorize hacker types based on their intentions.

  • This study analyzes and assesses the effect of good governance consisting of accountability, transparency, and participation on the financial performance of Pare-Pare City local government moderated by the basic values of Siri culture in the form of Lempu (honesty), Amaccangeng (intelligence), and Awaraningeng (courage). The population of this research is 200 local government employees (respondents). The results of data analysis showed that accountability and participation variables had no significant effect on the financial performance of the Pare-Pare City local government. However, the transparency variable has an influence on local government financial performance. It is hoped that all these 3 variables (accountability, transparency, and participation) will have a significant effect on local government financial performance. To achieve this, it is necessary to apply cultural values that exist in society so that cultural values can provide greater guidance in the management of regional finances. The results provide a better understanding of the importance of Siri's cultural value in the implementation of public services to the community. With Siri's cultural values in the form of Lempu, Amaccangeng, and Awaraningeng embedded in their behavior, government employees can improve performance and avoid deviant behavior or corruption. The novelty of this research is a form of analysis by using local cultural values (the basic values of Siri culture) as the moderating variable.

  • The outdoor recreation fever that is drastically increasing in Korea could be the result of the interaction between mass media and popular culture as well as increase of leisure time and disposable income. Thus, the purpose of this study is to specify how the exposure of outdoor recreation through mass media influences potential outdoor recreationists. In order to specify this decision-making process, playfulness, which is the intrinsic characteristic of adults' fun and play, was added to the theory of planned behavior, which has high explanation power regarding human behavior. As a result of the study, it turned out that playfulness significantly influences attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control, and that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control also significantly influence behavioral intention. These results specify that playfulness is a factor that has a great effect on outdoor recreation that seeks deviant behavior.
