  • Due to increase in software-based new technologies, software developers are being required to creative problem solving. Especially, for a successful business change of software developers into a new industrial field, software analysis phase and design phase are important and it is an important task to strengthen these competences. In this study, two independent researches were conducted. First, a survey with 300 software developers was conducted and it was explored that uniform thinking of software developers caused by application of "standard software development methodology" made it difficult to approach creative problem solving. Based on this finding, the influences of 9 competences of computational thinking on software developers were analyzed after selecting 111 software developers with over 10 years of experience in the IT industry. As a result, it was revealed that abstraction was an important competence. The study finding demonstrates that software developers recognized design phase as the most important thing and abstraction of CT is the basics of other competences.

  • Recently, software projects have been increasing and getting complex. Due to the large number of submitted bug reports, developers' workload increases. Generally in bug triage process, the triagers assign the bug report to fixer (developer) in order to resolve the bug. However, bug reports have been reassigned to other developers because fixers are not suitable. This is why the triagers did not correctly check and understand the bug report and decide the appropriate developers to fix the bug. This results in increase of developers' time and efforts in software maintenance. To resolve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel method for developer recommendation based on topic model and social network. First, we build a basis of topic(s) from bug reports. Next, when a new bug report (test data set) comes, we select the most similar topic(s) and extract the participated developers from the topic(s). Finally, by applying social network, we analyze the developers' behavior (comment and commit activity) and recommend the appropriate developers. In this paper we compare our work with related studies through performance experiments on open source projects. The results show that our approach is more effective than other studies in bug triage.

  • The Web accessibility compliance rate of public organizations and private enterprises is still low due to the lack of awareness of Web accessibility by website developers and managers in spite of the fact that web accessibility compliance became mandatory in 2008. Web developers and managers think the website visual quality might be compromised or the website requires more development time and budget in order to comply with the web accessibility guidelines. Therefore, this paper has analyzed whether developers with various training in web accessibility or experience on website development have different perception on time, cost and design issues for developing accessible websites. For this purpose, 72 Web developers with hand-on experience working for website development companies in Korea were sent to the questionaries. The results have indicated that the group of developers with many hours of training in web accessibility and rich experience on website development perceives that they can develop accessible website without additional cost and time or compromising design quality. The contributions of this paper are following: (1) proving the widely recognized perception on budget, time, and design for developing accessible website is incorrect and (2) motivating further research on this subject in the future.

  • This study examined the efficacy of development control in the monitoring of building developments in Kenya, a case study of Kisii Town. It focused on the extent to which the 1968 Building Code was enforced by the County Government of Kisii in an attempt to promote quality assurance. The target population comprised 7,430 residential developments from where a sample size of 364 was proportionately and randomly drawn. Research findings indicated that 39% of developers were unaware that their developments should have been inspected during construction. Similarly, awareness of building inspection significantly predicted if developers issued Notices of Inspection to the planning authority to facilitate inspections. Consequently, developers who were unaware that their building constructions required inspection were 99.9% less likely to issue such notices. Moreover, developers who did not obtain development permission were correspondingly 99.9% less likely to issue Inspection Notices. As a result, those who did not issue Notices of Inspection were 99.8% less likely to have their buildings inspected during construction due to lack of records indicating when such constructions had commenced. The study concludes that although the County Government of Kisii is lawfully mandated to monitor building developments in Kisii Town, the function is not well executed. This gap affords developers with an opportunity of not conforming to the approved building plans.

  • This article examines technological innovation's impact on the game production field and on the developers' subjectivity and labor. It focuses on the appearance of the new stage of digitalization via mobile devices during the period when the leading sector of game industry rapidly shifted to Mobile games. Though the in-depth interview with the game developers, this article explores the changes in organizational and management approaches and in the developers' experience and perception of their labor. Given the serious shortage of the related literature, I believe this analysis could provide a new perspective in understanding the gameswork of specific time and location.

  • This paper provides a novel approach for a user oriented system for face detection system for application developers. Even though there are many open source or commercial libraries to solve the problem of face detection, they are still hard to use because they require specific knowledge on detail algorithmic techniques. The purpose of this paper is to come up with a high-level system for face detection with which users can develop systems easily and even without specific knowledge on face detection theories and algorithms. Important conditions are firstly considered to categorize the large problem space of face detection. The conditions identified here are then represented as expressions so that application developers can use them to express various problems. Once the conditions are expressed by developers, the interpreter proposed take the role to interpret the conditions, find and organize the optimal algorithms to solve the represented problem with corresponding conditions. A proof-of-concept is implemented and some example problems are tested and analyzed to show the ease of use and usability.

  • IEC 62304 is a standard for the medical device software lifecycle. Developers must develop software that complies with all specifications in the standard for licensing. However, because the standard contains not only a large number of specifications, but also domain-specific information and association relationships between specifications, it requires considerable effort and time for developers to understand and interpret the standard. To support developers, this paper presents a method for extracting the contents of the IEC 62304 standard as a goal model, which is the core methodologies of requirements engineering. The proposed method analyzes the grammar of the standard to robustly extract complex structures and various information from standard specifications and define rules that extract goals and links from syntactic element units. We validated the actual extraction process for the standard document experimentally. Based on the extracted goal model, developers can intuitively and efficiently comply with the standard and track specific information within the medical software and standard domains.

  • Embedded system developers use design and testing tools to make their product faster. Previously developed a virtual development environment for embedded software (VDEES) using open source software, mainly the SID simulation framework for a simulator engine and the Eclipse platform for a development platform. VDEES enables developers to develop SID Component in C++. A bridge module for developing SID Component in Java has been developed and available. However, using this module, developers have to build their SID Java component from scratch. In this work, we developed SID Java Component Builder Plug-in as an additional features to VDEES. This tools enables developers to build SID Component in Java faster and easier.

  • This research will attempt to reveal that private developers in the Malaysian construction industry have been practicing strategic partnering in their organizations. While the investigation was conducted using quantitative and qualitative approaches, this paper will only reveal results obtained from the questionnaire survey. Results from the questionnaire survey indicate that private developers in the Malaysian construction industry had implemented strategic partnering in their organizations. The elements of the partnering process, which are partnering formation, partnering application and partnering completion or reactivation were tested. The results show that all the elements of the partnering process have been exercised in their projects. Thus it can be surmised that strategic partnering has been practiced by private developers in the Malaysian construction industry.

  • Recently, with the advance of the wireless Internet access via mobile devices, a myriad of game development companies have forayed into the mobile game market, leading to intense competition. To survive in this fierce competition, mobile game developers often try to get a grasp of the rapidly changing needs of their customers by operating their own official communities where game users freely leave their requests, suggestions, and ideas relevant to focal games. Based on the heuristic-systematic model (HSM) and the data quality (DQ) framework, this study derives key content, non-content, and hybrid cues that can be utilized when game developers accept suggested postings in these online communities. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis show that relevancy, timeliness, amount of writing, and the number of comments are positively associated with mobile game developers' knowledge adoption. In addition, title attractiveness mitigates the relationship between amount of writing/the number of comments and knowledge adoption.
