Analysis of Chloride Ion Penetration Properties into Concrete on Road Facilities Depending on the Deterioration Environments (국도 상 도로시설물 대상 열화환경 조건 별 콘크리트 염화물 침투 특성 분석)

  • The deterioration environments caused by de-icing salt and airborne chlorides in the seashore, evaluated in the "Detailed guideline for safety and management practice of facilities (performance evaluation)", were reviewed in terms of penetrated chlorides into concrete on various road facilities. Target concrete structures, in this study, were 4 concrete barriers in Gangwon area, 3 concrete barriers and 1 retaining wall in Busan area, and 4 bridges in Gangwon-do, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Busan. The deterioration environments were classified into three categories: direct and indirect de-icing salt attack, and airborne salt attack depending on the distance to seashore and the height of pier, and the penetrated chlorides in to concrete were analyzed. The results showed that (1) the regional deterioration environments were clearly classified by de-icing salt sprayed days (snowfall days), (2) the penetrated chlorides increased significantly when leakage occurred through slabs or expansion joints, and (3) the airborne chlorides affected to a height of 20 m concrete in the seashore, Busan. From these, it could be confirmed that the chloride ion penetration properties depend on the exposed aging environment, member location and height, and deterioration status, even on the same structure, so the selection of target members and location is very important in the inspection and maintenance. If the database of penetrated chlorides properties in various deterioration environments is constructed, it is expected that the proactive durability management on concrete structures will be possible in the field.

  • Although the proportion of coal-fired power generation is decreasing, efficient operating technology is needed to continuously invest in facilities and reduce maintenance costs until it is abolished. Boilers, one of the main facilities of power plants, operate for a long time in harsh environments of high temperature and high pressure. In addition, damage due to deterioration is likely to occur depending on the fuel and tube material used. It is very important to judge soundness because damage caused by deterioration adversely affects facility operation. Previously, replication method was used to analyze the progress of deterioration. In the replication method, pre-treatment such as chemical treatment is performed on the boiler tube in the field, the area is reproduced by attaching a film, and the replicated film is determined by an expert in the laboratory with an expensive microscope. However, this method involves substantial costs and time requirements, as well as the possibility of human errors. To address these issues, we developed a mobile health assessment system in this research. Since it is detachable and takes images in real time, this system enables swift evaluations across a broad range and facilitates the assessment of preprocessing quality. In addition, it was intended to reduce existing human mistakes by developing a degradation classification algorithm using the merger cluster method.

  • Domestic construction industry is facing big difficulties by a worldwide financial crisis. Especially the deterioration of liquidity by the reject of banks for project financing and unsold housing project made a big problem on financing for the ongoing and new projects. To solve this, it is critical for construction companies. banking facilities and public organizations to cooperate and support each other. In this study, the methods which each part can do are investigated. Construction companies can do a price reduction, finance condition improvement for deposit and down payment, asset sale and cost reduction. And Public organizations can buy the assets of construction companies with proper price and ease the regulation to activate transactions of real estate. In the case of Banking facilities, they can support arrangement and liquidation of insolvent projects and so on.

Deterioration Characteristics through Evaluating the Level of Deterioration of High-rise and High-density Apartments (고층고밀 아파트단지의 노후특성 평가 연구 - 1기 신도시 중 분당신도시의 아파트단지를 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this research is to determine the deterioration characteristics of high-rise and high-density apartment complexes in 1st period new towns in order to regenerate apartments as sustainable residential environments in Korea. For this purpose, the level of deterioration was evaluated by using 'evaluating indicators of the level of deterioration of high-rise and high-density apartments'. The deterioration characteristics were determined inclusively and concretely based on evaluation results. In addition, the deterioration level according to residents' awareness of the deterioration of their apartment was evaluated. This study was conducted by methods of field data collection, staff interview, field measurement, and resident survey according to the measurement of the evaluating indicators. And the re-organized questionnaire based on the evaluating indicators was utilized for a survey of resident's awareness. The results are as follows: In the physical dimensions of apartments, the deterioration characteristics included deteriorated equipment and a decline in structural performance due to the aging of the apartment, a shortage of parking spaces, and the low flexibility of the bearing wall structure, etc. In terms of the social dimensions, the apartments showed an increase in the number of elderly households, a shortage of community facilities, and a lack of the opportunity for community participation etc. In terms of the economic dimensions, the apartments showed limitations in maintenance & repair and a lack of environmentally friendly features.

  • The unity of korean peninsula have traditionally been established as major policy in korea government. Present government also set Trust Process on the Korean Peninsula as national high-level strategies for unity, and construction field related directly to living of north korean as major industry which would be implemented in early stage. Deterioration level of architectural facilities in north korea is known as very high, so a huge budget would be required to improve aging architectural facilities for stability of social and living of north korean. Therefore the purpose of this study deduct financing plan for improving aging architectural facilities in north korea and selection of optimal alternative securing effectiveness. The results of this study could be utilized as preliminary data for establishment of master plan and policy for improving deteriorated facilities in situation of united korean peninsula.

  • Railway line segment deterioration can be affected by rail tracks, subgrades, bridges, tunnels, and line shapes. In this paper, an evaluation method is presented for the railway line segment deterioration using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). The importance weights can be assessed systematically for component facilities from numerous experts using AHP. The importance weights provided by experts may differ according to each expert; however, the DEA enables the evaluation of railway line segment deterioration that reflects the variety of expert opinions using these importance weights.

Maintenance Case and Cost Analysis for University Facilities (대학시설물의 유지보수 건수 및 비용 분석)

  • Although the scale and number of university facilities have increased, the maintenance of these facilities has not been efficient as maintenance costs incurred during facility operation periods, as well as management time, have not been sufficiently considered. In this study, the maintenance record data of national universities was compared and analyzed to analyze factors that incur maintenance costs according to the uses and costs of the facilities. According to the results, the number of cases of maintenance and repair work for basic educational facilities was shown to be the largest, accounting for 79%. The number of maintenance and repair work occurred according to work type was examined. According to the results, the highest ratio of maintenance and repair work occurred in the field of construction, specifically, the maintenance costs required for facility supplementation accounted for the highest ratio. Maintenance costs per unit area decreased over time in the newer university facilities, while showing a tendency to increase in older university facilities. However, there were cases where maintenance costs did not show any trends due to factors such as the limited maintenance budgets owing to the characteristics of public service facilities and facilities in the stage of deterioration or destruction after the stage of stabilization. This study is considered to be helpful for efficient university facility maintenance plans and budget calculations.

  • The demand for electric power is increasing every year. All facilities operating at power stations and all facilities used in transmitting high volumes of electric power are therefore expected to operate with a high degree of reliability. 6.6 kV XLPE 100 SQ 1C cables are used to deliver high levels of generated electric power. Depending on the method of manufacture, installation environment, and usage conditions, the deterioration processes of power cables start from the instant of operation. Cable junctions may break down in three years from the start of operation due to manufacturing or construction defects. We have invented the first device in Korea to monitor the status of live cables and installed these at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd.. We have set the criteria to determine deterioration status and specified the degree of deterioration at which one should replace the cables. In this paper, we present the effect of insulation layer and sheath on the insulation resistance status in cables.

  • As time goes by, educational facilities have become superannuated and damaged; therefore, performance and safety of buildings have been decreased. It causes the decrease of service quality and deterioration of educational environment. In order to protect facilities from serious damages and deterioration, a consistent maintenance and repair program is required. The educational facilities can keep the good educational environments and also make better environments through the program. This study is made by investigating and analyzing the maintenance data which was collected from fifty schools in Asan area, Chungchengnam-do in order to derive foundation data for the efficient educational environment maintenance program.

  • Recent major domestic facilities, such as nuclear power plants, many control cables are installed and are degraded by long-term use, but research on deterioration diagnosis is lacking. In the event of a fault in the cable due to deterioration can be developed into a major accident such as the main plant is stopped, so the deterioration diagnostic techniques of high reliability for the cable is required. In this paper, proposes a methodology using a cable resonance that can effectively diagnose the deterioration of the cable. Prior to the test, we developed a setup for stable measuring the characteristics of the cable and it verified the suitable of the measurement set-up in terms of interactivity and reliability, also measured S-parameters applying verified measurement set-up to the cables that deterioration degree is different. Then, we had amplified the difference in resonance frequency between the healthy state and the deteriorated state using connection in a series of measured S-parameters. In a result from the method, we have verified that the more deteriorate the cables is, the more decrease the resonance frequency is. Measured results are justified by inducing the resonance frequency calculation of the cable from the S- parameters represented by the hyperbolic function formula. VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) for S-parameter measurements used in this study is Agilent E5061B and shielded twisted-pair cables was used for deterioration diagnostic test.
