  • As the cyber-attacks through the networks advance, it is difficult for the intrusion detection system based on the simple rules to detect the novel type of attacks such as Advanced Persistent Threat(APT) attack. At present, many types of research have been focused on the application of machine learning techniques to the intrusion detection system in order to detect previously unknown attacks. In the case of using the machine learning techniques, the performance of the intrusion detection system largely depends on the feature set which is used as an input to the system. Generally, more features increase the accuracy of the intrusion detection system whereas they cause a problem when fast responses are required owing to their large elapsed time. In this paper, we present a network intrusion detection system based on artificial neural network, which adopts a multi-objective genetic algorithm to satisfy the both requirements: accuracy, and fast response. The comparison between the proposing approach and previously proposed other approaches is conducted against NSL_KDD data set for the evaluation of the performance of the proposing approach.

  • Event detection is one of the key issues in many wireless sensor network (WSN) applications. The uncertainties that are derived from the instability of sensor node, measurement noise and incomplete sampling would influence the performance of event detection to a large degree. Many of the present researches described the sensor readings with crisp values, which cannot adequately handle the uncertainties inhered in the imprecise sensor readings. In this paper, a fault-tolerant event detection algorithm is proposed based on Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory (also called evidence theory). Instead of crisp values, all possible states of the event are represented by the Basic Probability Assignment (BPA) functions, with which the output of each sensor node are characterized as weighted evidences. The combination rule was subsequently applied on each sensor node to fuse the evidences gathered from the neighboring nodes to make the final decision on whether the event occurs. Simulation results show that even 20% nodes are faulty, the accuracy of the proposed algorithm is around 80% for event region detection. Moreover, 97% of the error readings have been corrected, and an improved detection capability at the boundary of the event region is gained by 75%. The proposed algorithm can enhance the detection accuracy of the event region even in high error-rate environment, which reflects good reliability and robustness. The proposed algorithm is also applicable to boundary detection as it performs well at the boundary of the event.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for detecting characters in images and detecting facial regions, which consists of two tasks. First, we separate two different characters to detect the face position of the characters in the frame. For fast detection, we use You Only Look Once (YOLO), which finds faces in the image in real time, to extract the location of the face and mark them as object detection boxes. Second, we present three image processing methods to detect accurate face area based on object detection boxes. Each method uses HSV values extracted from the region estimated by the detection figure to detect the face region of the characters, and changes the size and shape of the detection figure to compare the accuracy of each method. Each face detection method is compared and analyzed with comparative data and image processing data for reliability verification. As a result, we achieved the highest accuracy of 87% when using the split rectangular method among circular, rectangular, and split rectangular methods.

  • An intrusion detection system is a technology that detects abnormal behaviors that violate security, and detects abnormal operations and prevents system attacks. Existing intrusion detection systems have been designed using statistical analysis or anomaly detection techniques for traffic patterns, but modern systems generate a variety of traffic different from existing systems due to rapidly growing technologies, so the existing methods have limitations. In order to overcome this limitation, study on intrusion detection methods applying various machine learning techniques is being actively conducted. In this study, a comparative study was conducted on data preprocessing techniques that can improve the accuracy of anomaly detection using NGIDS-DS (Next Generation IDS Database) generated by simulation equipment for traffic in various network environments. Padding and sliding window were used as data preprocessing, and an oversampling technique with Adversarial Auto-Encoder (AAE) was applied to solve the problem of imbalance between the normal data rate and the abnormal data rate. In addition, the performance improvement of detection accuracy was confirmed by using Skip-gram among the Word2Vec techniques that can extract feature vectors of preprocessed sequence data. PCA-SVM and GRU were used as models for comparative experiments, and the experimental results showed better performance when sliding window, skip-gram, AAE, and GRU were applied.

  • The issue of data accuracy brings a different perspective to the issue of GIS modeling, calls into a question the usefulness of data models such as DEM. Accuracy can be determined by randomly checking positional and attribute accuracy within a GIS data layer. With the increasing availability of DEM and the software capable of processing them, it is worthwhile to call attention for data accuracy and error analysis as GIS application depends on the priori established spatial data. The purpose of this paper was to investigate methods for data accuracy measurement and error detection methodology with two types of DEM's: 1 to 24,000 and 1 to 250,000 DEM released by U.S. Geological Survey. Another emphasis was given to the development of methodology for processing DEM's to create Arc/Info and GRASS layers. Data accuracy analysis with DEM was applied to a 250 sq.km area and an error was detected at a scale of 1:24,000 DEM. There were two possible reasons for this error: gross errors and blunders.

  • In this paper, we propose a fire detection algorithm based on motion information and color information analysis. Conventional fire detection algorithms have as main problem the difficulty to detect fire due to external light, intensity, background image complexity, and little fire diffusion. So we propose a fire detection algorithm that accurate and fast. First, it analyzes the motion information in video data and then set the first candidate. Second, it determines this domain after analyzing the color and the domain. This algorithm assures a fast fire detection and a high accuracy compared with conventional fire detection algorithms. Our algorithm will be useful to real-time fire detection in real world.

  • Network anomaly detection system plays an essential role in detecting network anomaly and ensuring network security. Anomaly detection system based machine learning has become an increasingly popular solution. However, due to the unbalance and high-dimension characteristics of network traffic, the existing methods unable to achieve the excellent performance of high accuracy and low false alarm rate. To address this problem, a new network anomaly detection method based on data balancing and recursive feature addition is proposed. Firstly, data balancing algorithm based on improved KNN outlier detection is designed to select part respective data on each category. Combination optimization about parameters of improved KNN outlier detection is implemented by genetic algorithm. Next, recursive feature addition algorithm based on correlation analysis is proposed to select effective features, in which a cross contingency test is utilized to analyze correlation and obtain a features subset with a strong correlation. Then, random forests model is as the classification model to detection anomaly. Finally, the proposed algorithm is evaluated on benchmark datasets KDD Cup 1999 and UNSW_NB15. The result illustrates the proposed strategies enhance accuracy and recall, and decrease the false alarm rate. Compared with other algorithms, this algorithm still achieves significant effects, especially recall in the small category.

  • The growth of multimedia technology forces the development of video detection for large database management and illegal copy detection. To meet this demand, this paper proposes a fast video detection method to apply to a large database. The fast video detection algorithm uses spatial features using the gray value distribution from frames and temporal features using the temporal similarity map. We form the video signature using the extracted spatial feature and temporal feature, and carry out a stepwise matching method. The performance was evaluated by accuracy, extraction and matching time, and signature size using the original videos and their modified versions such as brightness change, lossy compression, text/logo overlay. We show empirical parameter selection and the experimental results for the simple matching method using only spatial feature and compare the results with existing algorithms. According to the experimental results, the proposed method has good performance in accuracy, processing time, and signature size. Therefore, the proposed fast detection algorithm is suitable for video detection with the large database.

  • Vehicle detection based on aerial images is an interesting and challenging research topic. Most of the traditional vehicle detection methods are based on the sliding window search algorithm, but these methods are not sufficient for the extraction of object features, and accompanied with heavy computational costs. Recent studies have shown that convolutional neural network algorithm has made a significant progress in computer vision, especially Faster R-CNN. However, this algorithm mainly detects objects in natural scenes, it is not suitable for detecting small object in aerial view. In this paper, an accurate and effective vehicle detection algorithm based on Faster R-CNN is proposed. Our method fuse a hyperactive feature map network with Eltwise model and Concat model, which is more conducive to the extraction of small object features. Moreover, setting suitable anchor boxes based on the size of the object is used in our model, which also effectively improves the performance of the detection. We evaluate the detection performance of our method on the Munich dataset and our collected dataset, with improvements in accuracy and effectivity compared with other methods. Our model achieves 82.2% in recall rate and 90.2% accuracy rate on Munich dataset, which has increased by 2.5 and 1.3 percentage points respectively over the state-of-the-art methods.
