  • The effect of sensor faults in direct torque control(DTC) based induction motor drives is analyzed and a new Instrument fault detection isolation scheme(IFDIS) is proposed. The proposed IFDIS, which operated in real-time, detects and isolates the incipient fault(s) of speed sensor and current sensors that provide the feedback information. The scheme consists of an adaptive gain scheduling observer as a residual generator and a special sequential test logic unit. The observer provides not only the estimate of stator flux, a key variable in DTC system, but also the estimates of stator current and rotor speed that are useful for fault detection. With the test logic, the IFDIS has the functionality of fault isolation that only multiple estimator based IFDIS schemes can have. Simulation results for various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the IFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • This paper presents a method for detecting skin tumors on chicken carcasses using hyperspectral images. It utilizes both fluorescence and reflectance image information in hyperspectral images. A detection system that is built on this concept can increase detection rate and reduce processing time, because the procedure for detection can be simplified. Chicken carcasses are examined first using band ratio FCM information of fluorescence image and it results in candidate regions for skin tumor. Next classifier selects the real tumor spots using PCA components information of reflectance image from the candidate regions. For the real world application, real-time processing is a key issue in implementation and the proposed method can accommodate the requirement by using a limited number of features to maintain the low computational complexity. Nevertheless, it shows favorable results and, in addition, uncovers meaningful spectral bands for detecting tumors using hyperspectral image. The method and findings can be employed in implementing customized chicken tumor detection systems.

  • An optimal multiuser detection algorithm with a computational complexity of O(K log K) is proposed for the class of linear multiple-access systems which have constant cross-correlation values. Here the optimal multiuser detection is implemented by searching for a monotone sequence with maximum likelihood, under the ranking of sufficient statistics. The proposed algorithm is intuitive and concise. It is carried out in just two steps, and at each step only one kind of operation is performed. Also, the proposed algorithm can be extended to more complex systems having more than a single cross-correlation value.

  • Identification of steady-state is the first step in developing a fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) system. In a complete FDD system, the steady-state detector will be included as a module in a self-learning algorithm which enables the working system's reference model to "tune" itself to its particular installation. In this study, a steady-state detector of a residential air conditioner based on moving windows was designed. Seven representing measurements were selected as key features for steady-state detection. The optimized moving window size and the feature thresholds was suggested through startup transient test and no-fault steady-state test. Performance of the steady-state detector was verified during indoor load change test. From the research, the general methodology to design a moving window steady-state detector was provided for vapor compression applications.

  • Obstacle detection and avoidance are considered as one of the key technologies on an unmanned vehicle system. In this paper, we propose a method of obstacle detection and avoidance and it is composed of vehicle control, modeling, and sensor experiments. Obstacle detection and avoidance consist of two parts: one is longitudinal control system for acceleration and deceleration and the other is lateral control system for steering control. Each system is used for unmanned vehicle control, which notes its location, recognizes obstacles surrounding it, and makes a decision how fast to proceed according to circumstances. During the operation, the control system of the vehicle can detect obstacles and perform obstacle avoidance on the road, which involves vehicle velocity. In this paper, we propose a method for vehicle control, modeling, and obstacle avoidance, which are evaluated through road tests.

  • With the current rapid development of nanotechnology and synthesis technology for designed oligonucleotides or oligonucleotide-modified nanoparticle conjugates, the combined strategies have become one of the most valuable methods in detection technology for DNA analysis. Using the uniquely recognizable interactions of pre-designed DNA molecules in assembling nanoparticles, various novel approaches have been recently developed towards detecting specific DNA sequences. Here we describe the key fundamentals and issues of this promising strategies ranging from the initial findings of rationally designed DNA-based assembly of nanoparticles to the extended chip-based detection system. Some limitations of these new strategies and possible approaches will be also discussed for the practical application in the area of DNA microarray detection.

  • In this paper, we will examine single face tracking algorithms with scaling function in a mobile device. Face detection and tracking either in PC or mobile device with scaling function is an unsolved problem. Standard single face tracking method with particle filter has a problem in tracking the objects where the object can move closer or farther from the camera. Therefore, we create an algorithm which can work in a mobile device and perform a scaling function. The key idea of our proposed method is to extract the average of skin color in face detection, then we compare the skin color distribution between the detected face and the tracking face. This method works well if the face position is located in front of the camera. However, this method will not work if the camera moves closer from the initial point of detection. Apart from our weakness of algorithm, we can improve the accuracy of tracking.

  • In this paper, we propose soft dead pixels detection method by analysing different response at hot and cold images. Abnormal pixels are able to effect detecting a small target. It also makes confusing real target or not cause of changing target size. Almost exist abnormal pixels after image signal processing even if dead pixels are removed by dead pixel compensation are called soft dead pixels. They are showed defect in final image. So removing or compensating dead pixels are very important for detecting object. The key idea of this proposed method, detecting dead pixels, is that most of soft deads have different response characteristics between hot image and cold image. General infrared cameras do NUC to remove FPN. Working 2-reference NUC must be needed getting data, hot & cold images. The way which is proposed dead pixel detection is that we compare response, NUC gain, at each pixel about two different temperature images and find out dead pixels if the pixels exceed threshold about average gain of around pixels.

  • This paper proposes a nail detection algorithm using OpenPose and implements virtual nail art using it. Based on the key points detected by OpenPose, the finger area is detected using skin color characteristics for each finger. The nail region is detected from the edge image of the detected finger region. Then, a virtual nail art is implemented by synthesizing nail tips in the nail area. In a somewhat controlled shooting environment, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm detects nail areas well and implements virtual nail art well.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of converting 2D video into 3D stereoscopic video, called stereoscopic conversion. In general, stereoscopic images are produced using the motion informations. However unreliable motion informations obtained especially from block-based motion estimation cause the wrong generation of stereoscopic images. To solve for this problem, we propose a stereoscopic conversion method based upon the utilization of key frame that has the better accuracy of estimated motion informations. As well, as generation scheme of stereoscopic images associated with the motion type of each key frame is proposed. For the performance evaluation of our proposed method, we apply it to five test images and measure the accuracy of key frame-based stereoscopic conversion. Experimental results show that our proposed method has the accuracy more than about 90 percent in terms of the detection ratio of key frames.
