  • The systematic way of the boundary thought in Buddhism, when applied to the principles of building, determines certain forms to certain temples, and organizes their topological boundary concept structure - the continuous experience of the visitor from his/her entry bridge(connecting), through the main temple gate(neighbourhood), pavilion gate(including), stairs(continuance), to the arrival at the pavilion of the god of a mountain(spiral), which reconstitutes the Buddhist boundary symbolism and philosophy. The topological boundary spaces of temples are an architectural manifestation of Buddhism's Mahayana boundary concept aspects, whose object is to play a productive and active role in the enlightenment of people, serving the very basic end of the religion. The disciplined topological boundary spaces of the temple, as a reification of the boundary symbolisms of Buddhist topological cosmology, corresponds to Buddha-Ksetra, the highest state of existence in the universe. Visitors to the temple are invited to participate in the world of abundant Buddhist boundary concept symbols, and through this process, is enabled to elevate oneself to the transcendent topological boundary world and have a simulated experience of liberation.

  • In this paper, HBT's with lower phase noise and passive elements, such as resistors, capacitors and inductors, for resonance and impedance matching networks are designed, fabricated, tested, and carefully analysed, respectively, and then, they are integrated for the design and fabrication of functional X-band oscillators with lower phase noise. Epi-wafers for HBT's with the structure of graded $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ As emitter and C-doped base layer of 700.angs. thick were used to specially emphasize the improvement of $f_{T}$ and $f_{max}$, and the lowering of phase noise, in design aspects. At the test frequencies of 12GHz, capacitances of MIM capacitors, spiral inductor, and resistances are 0.5~10pF, 0.4~11.06nH, and 20~1,380.ohm., respectively. The emitter size of HBY's for the X-band MMIC oscillators is 3*10u $m^{2}$, and find chip size is 0.9*0.9m $m^{2}$..EX>.

  • A cross-flow fan is widely used on many industrial fields: mining industry, automobile and home appliances, etc. The design point of the cross-flow fan is generally based on the region within low static pressure and high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice. However, it has low static pressure efficiency between 30% and 40% because of relative high impact loss. Recently, in the air-conditioning systems, the operating behaviors at the off-design points are highly regarded to broaden the application area for various air-cooling loads. Especially, at the lower flow rate, there exists a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an irregular flow field against a rearguider as a scroll of centrifugal fan. Numerical analyses are carried out for investigating the flow characteristics in a cross-flow fan including the impeller, the rearguider and the stabilizer. Especially, various types of rearguiders are estimated by numerical and experimental methods to insure the stable operation in the region of lower flow rate. Numerical domains are discretized by hexahedral cells. Three-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using FVM, PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. ASHRAE standard fan tester is also used to estimate the performance of the modeled crossflow fan.

  • The experimental characterization of hydrodynamic bearing spindle motor is performed for the practical implementation of high-performance hard disk drive system. Firstly, the design concept of hydrodynamic bearing for the disk drive system is addressed including the herringbone grooved journal bearing, the spiral grooved thrust bearing, capillary seal design, and the viscous pumping of fluid. Secondly, the experimental evaluation is performed for the disk drive system in which the hydrodynamic bearing spindle motor is implemented and its dynamic performances are compared with conventional ball-bearing spindle motor. The key parameters include NRRO(Non Repeatable Run-Out), disk dynamics, acoustics, and resultant PES (Position Error Signal). Finally, the external gyro-exciting test results including 200k CSS(Continuous Start-Stop) on three angular attitudes(0,90, 180 degree) are presented in order to verify the practical reliability of disk drive system subject to the gyro-motion of hydrodynamic bearing spindle motor.

  • In this paper, the modeling and design of high-Q multilayer passives have been investigated, and multilayer diplexer for GSM/DCS applications has been designed and fabricated using the passives. To minimize the system, the configuration of a multilayer inductor has involved a square spiral structure. Modeling of a multilayer inductor was performed by the subsystems of distributed components, and using the modeling the optimal structures of the high-Q multilayer inductor could be designed by analyzing parasitics and couplings which affect their frequency characteristics. Multilayer diplexer for GSM/DCS application has been designed and fabricated using LTCC technology. LPF for GSM band had the passband insertion loss of less than 0.55 dB, the return loss of more than 12 dB, and the isolation level of more than 26 dB by locating attenuation pole at 1800 MHz. HPF for DCS band had the passband insertion loss of less than 0.82 dB, the return loss of more than 11 dB, and the isolation level of more than 38 dB by locating attenuation pole at 930 MHz.

  • In HVDC thyristor valves, more than 95% of heat loss occurs in snubber resistors and valve reactors. In order to dissipate the heat from the valves and to suppress the electrolytic current, water with a high heat capacity and a low conductivity of less than 0.2 uS/cm must be used as a refrigerant of the heat sink. The cooling parts must also be arranged to reduce the electrolytic current, whereas the pipe that supplies water to the thyristor heat sink must have the same electric potential as the valve. Corrosion is mainly caused by electrochemical reactions and the influence of water quality and leakage current. This paper identifies the refrigerants involved in the ionization, electrical conductivity, and corrosion in HVDC thyristor valves. A method for preventing corrosion is then introduced. The design of the heat sink with an excellent heat radiation is also analyzed in detail.

  • Cylindrical type air core pulse transformers capable of passing high voltage and energy pulse waveforms with high efficiency and low distortion require a much more delicate design balance of physical dimensions and electrical parameters than iron or ferrite core units. The structure of an air core high voltage pulse transformer is relatively simple, but considerable attention is needed to prevent breakdown between transformer windings. Since the thickness of the windings in spiral type is on the order of sub-millimeter, field enhancement at the edge of the windings is very high. It is, therefore, important to find proper electrical insulation Parameter to make the system compact. Several shapes of the winding are considered for air core pulse transformer development. In this paper, we are described design procedure, parameters measure and experiment results of air core type HV pulse transformer.

  • High-temperature superconducting rotors offer advantages in terms of output-to-weight ratio and efficiency compared to conventional phase conduction motors or generators. The rotor can be cooled by conduction cooling, which attaches a cryocooler, and by refrigerant circulation, which uses circulating liquid or gas neon, helium and hydrogen. Recent work has focused on environmental issues and on high-temperature superconducting motors cooled with liquid hydrogen that can be combined with fuel cells. However, to ensure smooth supply and return of the cryogenic cooling fluid, a cryogenic rotational coupling between the rotating and stationary parts is necessary. Additionally, the development of a sealing structure to minimize fluid leakage applicable to the coupling is essential. This study describes the design and performance evaluation of a non-contact sealing method, specifically a labyrinth seal, which avoids power loss and heat load caused by friction in contact sealing structures. The seal design incorporates a spiral flow path to reduce leakage using centrifugal force, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to analyze the flow path and rotational speed. A performance evaluation device was configured and employed to evaluate the designed seal. The results of this study will be used to develop a cryogenic rotational coupling with supply and return flow paths for cryogenic applications.

  • Most of the existing interactive arts or entertainment systems consist of the following three steps: 1. the system's prompting the action of the participant, 2. action of the participant, and 3. response of the system. They do not presuppose these successive processes are performed continuously and repeatedly, and they are designed to express the concept of the work in each interaction. The opposite approach is to transmit the concept of the work in a continuous and repeated experience. The authors propose "Adjustive Media" as a type of work based on this approach. Adjustive Media has a spiral model with feedback. When participants experience the work repeatedly, they can recognize the difference of results between each interaction, and they can under- stand more closely the intent of the designer. This paper will propose 3 design processes for Adjustive Media as design method, and will introduce the prototypes of Adjustive Media.

  • In this paper, a design and fabrication of a miniaturized 2.5 GHz 8 W power amplifier using selectively anodized aluminum oxide(SAAO) substrate are presented. The process of SAAO substrate is recently proposed and patented by Wavenics Inc. which uses aluminum as wafer. The selected active device is a commercially available GaN HEMT chip of TriQuint company, which is recently released. The optimum impedances for power amplifier design were extracted using the custom tuning jig composed of tunable passive components. The class-F power amplifier are designed based on EM co-simulation of impedance matching circuit. The matching circuit is realized in SAAO substrate. For integration and matching in the small package module, spiral inductors and single layer capacitors are used. The fabricated power amplifier with $4.4{\times}4.4\;mm^2$ shows the efficiency above 40 % and harmonic suppression above 30 dBc for the second(2nd) and the third(3rd) harmonic at the output power of 8 W.
