  • This paper proposed an application of expert system to submarine arrangement design. Since all components of the submarine should be placed in a restricted place called pressure hull, expert knowledge has great effects on design of submarine arrangement. In this regard, a suitable knowledge-based expert system shell was applied to design of submarine arrangement process. To use expert system on the design of submarine arrangement effectively, a template model for submarine arrangement, which is proper to use in optimum design process, was developed. The proposed system was applied to simplified example of submarine arrangement problem to choose optimal design alternative. From this study, it was verified that expert system could be used in design of submarine arrangement with effect.

  • The arrangement design of a submarine has been performed based on data of parent ships and experts' experiences. To support such a task, it is necessary to accumulate and use systematically the data, and to optimize the task. The expert system for the first issue and the optimization method for the latter issue can be used. At this time, a suitable data structure to share the data on the arrangement design of the submarine should be used. In this study, the data structure named an arrangement template model (ATM) is proposed. To check the applicability of the ATM, a prototype program which consists of the expert system and the optimization method is developed. Finally, the developed program is applied to a small submarine of US Navy. As a result, it is confirmed that the ATM can be used to share the data between the expert system and the optimization method.

  • This study aims to optimize an arrangement of ship compartments with knowledge-based systems. Though great attention has been shown to the optimization of hull forms in recent years, the study on arrangement design optimization has received relatively little attention. A ship is both an engineering system and a kind of assembly of many spaces. This means that, to design an arrangement of ship compartments, it is necessary to treat not only geometric data but also knowledge on topological relations between spaces and components of a ship. In this regard, we select a suitable knowledge representation scheme for describing ship compartments and their relations, and then develop a knowledge-based system using expert system shell. This new approach is applied to create design variations for optimization on an arrangement of a pressure hull of a submerged vehicle. Finally, we explicate how our approach improves the design process.

  • This study draws economic expense factors according to the influence of generation resulted from slipstream and the arrangement of the complex when arranging and designing the complex for offshore windpower development as a model of 50MW offshore wind farm and conducts economics analysis. According to the result of the analysis, O (Optimize) arrangement was the one that has the highest generation for having the best windpower resources in terms of design and being least affected by slipstream; however, the arrangement requires expensive submarine cables and high installation cost. Therefore, according to the analysis of economics, it was thought that 50MW complex should have less economics as BC ratio 0.95 than the series arrangement of main wind direction and I+80 series arrangement would be rather more economical. This economics evaluation provides comparison according to the arrangement of the development complex considering the uncertainty of the electricity price and gross construction cost. And it is expected that the result of economics evaluation would greatly differ by installation capacity, and the reason is that the cost of electric infrastructure takes up a higher portion than the gross construction cost of the development complex. The only way to compensate this part is to make the windpower development complex larger. It seems that it will be necessary to enhance spot applicability to evaluate economics afterwards and pay consistent attention to and conduct follow-up research on the economics evaluation of the complex construction.

  • A submarine power cable is a transmission cable for carrying electric power below the surface of the water. Recently, submarine cables transfer power from offshore renewable energy schemes to shore, e.g. wind, wave and tidal systems, and these cables are either buried in the seabed or lie on the ocean floor, depending on their location. Since these power cables are used in the extreme environments, they are made to withstand in harsh conditions and temperatures, and strong currents. However, undersea conditions are severe enough to cause all sorts of damage to offshore cables, these conditions result in cable faults that disrupt power transmission. In this paper, we explore the design criteria for such cables and the procedures and challenges of installation, and cable transfer splicing system. The specification of submarine cable designed with 3 circuits of 154kV which is composed of the existing single circuit and new double circuits, and power capacity of 100MVA per cable line. The determination of new submarine cable burial depth and cable arrangement method with both existing and new cables are studied. We have calculated the permission values of cable power capacity for underground route, the values show the over 100MW per cable line.
