  • This study aims at the new design system development of landscape architecture structures, as soundproof wall using reinforced soil block. This structures, that is new soundproof wall system, have to be maintained stability on acting critical wind load, which is combined exist soundproof wall system and soundproof wall system using environmental green stone block. To the harmony of this system, the post block, so-called landscape block or cast block, is manufactured. It's possible to stand of the post bearing system combined with post-pile and post block. Through the comparison with a serious code for the acting wind load on the soundproof wall, the reasonable wind load could be calculated. Also, the mechanical stability on the green stone block was checked by the Lab. tests based on the UBC (Uniformed Building Code). Because the critical height of soundproof wall system using green stone generally was restricted, the new system demands to combination of the exist system and the new system. For the stability analysis of them, the utility program, SAP2000, was used. And, a semi-auto program on the design system of the new soundproof wall using green stone was developed, which can be easily use because of the simplification.

  • Nonparametric procedures in randomized block design was proposed by Friedman (1937) as a general alternative. This method is used to find out the difference in treatment effect. It can cause a loss of inter block information using the ranking in each block. This paper proposed nonparametric procedures using an aligned method proposed by Hodges and Lehmann (1962) to reduce block information based on joint placement suggest by Jo and Kim (2013) in a randomized block design. We also compared the power of the test of the proposed procedures and established method through a Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Due to its large size, a ship is first divided into scores of blocks and then each block is constructed through various shops, such as the assembly shop, the painting shop, and the outfitting shop. However, each block may not be directly moved to the next shop and may be temporarily laid on a block stockyard because the working time in each shop is different. If blocks are laid on the block stockyard without any planning, the rearrangement of the blocks by a transporter are required because the blocks have the different in and out time. In this study, an optimal layout method based on the genetic algorithm was proposed in order to minimize the rearrangement of the blocks in the block stockyard. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed method, it was applied to a simple layout problem of the block stockyard.

  • During assembling the ship block, the lifting and turnover events are not only inevitable but also very important for safety aspects and block accuracy. However, they have been executed in empirical ways rather than numerical ways in consideration of the building schedule. In this paper, a structural analysis has been carried out for the container ship side block that collapsed in the course turnover stage. As a result, the causes of collapse and countermeasure plans are presented.

  • Due to the structural characteristic of a double roller, the double roller can have various deformation behaviors depending on a gap block design, even if dimensions and loading conditions for the double roller are the same. Based on this feature, we propose a strategy for designing the gap block of the carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) double roller to minimize defects (e.g., sagging and wrinkling), which can be raised during the product conveying process, with the pursue of the lightweight design. In the suggested strategy, analysis cases are first selected by considering main design parameters and engineering tolerances of the gap block, and then deformation behaviors of these selected cases are extracted using the finite element method (FEM). Here, to obtain the optimal gap block parameters that satisfy the purpose of this study, deformation deviations in the contact area are calculated and compared using the extracted deformation behaviors. Note that the contact area in this work is located between the product and the roller. As a result, through the design method of the gap block proposed in this work, it is possible to construct the CFRP double roller that can significantly decrease the defects without changing the overall sizes of the roller. A detailed method is suggested herein, and the results are evaluated in a numerical way.

  • If only fixed effects exist in a 4 $\times$ 4 balanced incomplete block design, powers of FR statistic for testing a main effect show the highest level with a few replications. Under the exponential and double exponential distributions, FR statistic shows relatively high powers with big differences as compared with the F statistic. Further in a traditional balanced incomplete block design, powers of FR statistic having a fixed main effect and a random block effect show superior preference for all situations without regard to the effect size of a main effect, the parameter size and the type of population distributions of a block effect. Powers of FR statistic increase in a high speed as replications increase. Overall power preference of FR statistic for testing a main effect is caused by unique characteristic of a balanced incomplete block design having one main and block effect with missing observations, which sensitively responds to small increase of main effect and sample size.

  • In this paper, we present a conference key authentication mechanism by employing an algebraic method on IMT-2000 environment. To accomplish this, the symmetric balanced incomplete block design is applied for generating a conference key and then this key is distributed to participants. Through the technique for creation of a conference key and mutual authentications peformed based on identification information, a communication protocol is designed. The protocol proposed minimizes the communication complexity for generating a conference key. On a special case the complexity is O(equation omitted), where v is the number of participants. The security of the mechanism, which is a significant problem in construction of secure systems, can be assured since finding discrete logarithms is generally a hard problem.

  • In flexural strength design of normal-strength concrete (NSC) beams, it is commonly accepted that the distribution of concrete stress within the compression zone can be reasonably represented by an equivalent rectangular stress block. The stress block it governed by two parameters, which are normally denoted by ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ to stipulate the width and depth of the stress block. Currently in most of the reinforced concrete (RC) design codes, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ are usually taken as 0.85 and 0.80 respectively for NSC. Nonetheless, in an experimental study conducted earlier by the authors on NSC columns, it was found that ${\alpha}$ increases significantly with strain gradient, which means that larger concrete stress can be developed in flexure. Consequently, less tension steel will be required for a given design flexural strength, which improves the ductility performance. In this study, the authors' previously proposed strain-gradient-dependent concrete stress block will be adopted to produce a series of design charts showing the maximum design limits of flexural strength and ductility of singly-and doubly-NSC beams. Through the design charts, it can be verified that the consideration of strain gradient effect can improve significantly the flexural strength and ductility design limits of NSC beams.

  • For the reuse of the existing 3D block model of a ship, we analyze the hull modeling process using AVEVA Marine which is a representative CAD (Computer-Aided Design) system for the shipbuilding. In the AVEVA Marine environment where the design engineer makes 3D model on the 2D view that is so-called 2.5D, it cannot be possible to copy to reuse the block model just simply copying the 3D feature model itself like in the general mechanical CAD system or Smart Marine 3D which are on the basis of the 3D model representation. In this paper, we analyze the scheme file where the 3D model is defined in AVEVA Marine so that we develop the program for the block copy and the translation using this scheme file. It is significant that this program can be immediately available as a real-world application on the AVEVA Marine environment.
