  • The framework, described in this paper, involves artificial evolutionary systems that re -produce aimed solutions through a simulated Darwinian evolution process. Through this process the framework designs structures of machines innovatively and emergently especially in the stages of conceptual and basic design. Since the framework simulates the evolution of nature, it inevitably involves processes that converse the natural evolution to the artificial evolution. For the conversion, based on several methods as the building block modeling, Artificial Life, evolutionary computation and the law of natural selection, we propose a series of processes that consists of modeling, evaluation, selection, evolution etc. We have demonstrated the implementation of the framework with the design of multi-step gear systems.

  • The existing block encryption algorithms have been designed for the encryption key value to be unchanged and applied to the round functions of each block, and enciphered. Therefore, it has such a weak point that the plaintext or encryption key could be easily exposed by differential cryptanalysis or linear cryptanalysis, both are the most powerful methods for decoding block encryption of a round-repeating structure. In order to overcome with this weak point, an encryption algorithm using a mote efficient key should be designed. In this paper, a block encryption algorithm which is designed for each encryption key value to be applied to each round block with different value is proposed. This algorithm needs a short processing time in an encryption and decryption, has a high intensity, can apply to electronic commerce and various applications of data protection.

  • The development of a simulation system requires many sub modules such as a dynamic module, a visualization module, etc. If a different freeware is used for each sub modules, it is hard to develop the simulation system by incorporating them because they use their own data structures. To solve this problem, a high-level data structure, called Dynamics Scene Graph Data structure (DSGD) is proposed, by wrapping data structures of two freeware; an Open Dynamics Engine (ODE) for the dynamic module and an Open Scene Graph (OSG) for the visualization module. Finally, to evaluate the applicability of the proposed data structure, it is applied to the block erection simulation in shipbuilding. The result shows that it can be used for developing the simulation system.

  • The space for production, such as studios and control rooms, is a space for TV program production, which is the main function of broadcast. A block planning for such space should be carefully designed, because it can significantly affect the efficiency of production, as well as future productivity and the development and expandability of production. From the results of comparative analysis of 7 local terrestrial broadcasters built since the late 1990s, this study will. propose an ideal block planning for the future construction of local terrestrial broadcasters. Also, the results can be used a basic data when constructing new buildings for local broadcasters.

  • The block assembly of ship consists of a series of heat processes such as cutting, bending, welding residual stress relaxation and fairing With the fast development of computers, the thermal elasto-plastic analysis method has become a versatile tool for practical applications in the ship production. If numerical analysis is proved to be an advantageous tool to predict the residual deformation due to various heat processes, the optimum methods which can remove the welding distortion can be presented at each assembly stage, which will result in great progress in improving the accuracy of block assembly. In order to minimize the weld-induced angular distortion in thick weldments, this paper proposes the optimum groove design for various plate thickness as the distortion control method. The validity of this method has been substantiated by a number of numerical simulations and experiments.

  • Unknown inputs observer(UIO) which is achieved by the coordinate transformation method has the differential of system outputs in the observer and the equation for unknown inputs estimation. Generally, the differential of system outputs in the observer can be eliminated by defining a new variable. But it brings about the partition of the observer into two subsystems and need of an additional differential of system outputs still remained to estimate the unknown inputs. Therefore, the block pulse function expansions and its differential operation which is a newly derived in this paper are presented to alleviate such problems from an algebraic form.

  • In this paper a VLSI design for the automatic magnetizing and inspection system has been presented. This is a design of a peripheral controller, which magnetizes CRTs and computer monitors and controls the automatic inspection system. We implemented a programmable peripheral interface(PPI) circuit of the control and protocol module for the magnetizer controller by using a 0.8um CMOS SOG technology of ETRI. Most of the PPI functions have been confirmed. In the conventional method, the propagation/ramp delay model was used to predict the delay of cells, but used to model on only a single cell. Later, a modified "linear delay predict model" was suggested in the LODECAP(LOgic DEsign CAPture) by adding some factors to the prior model. But this has not a full model on the delay chain. In this paper a new " delay predict equation" for the design of the timing control block in PPI system has been suggested. We have described the detail method on a design of delay chain block according to the extracted equation and applied this method to the timing control block design. And we had descriptions on the other blocks of this system.

  • Korea has achieved a rapid economic development and with the increase in population and national income and the expansion of social and economic activities, energy consumption has rapidly increased too. Energy consumption per head has constantly increased and currently, power consumption per head is 7.5 times bigger than in 1985. Buildings occupy 25% of total energy consumption and especially, 50% of total energy is consumed for heating and cooling. In this situation, multi-family housing, which has constantly been increased, has an energy saving rate of 1.9%, which is the lowest level and this makes the government's energy policy for sustainable energy system development useless. Besides, energy consumption leads to secondary problems, such as air, water and marine pollution and heat pollution and wastewater/drainage and the increased use of fossil fuel is a fundamental reason for ozone layer destruction and global warming. Therefore, efficient energy consumption plans are required. This study aims to analyze energy performance in each block type of high-rise and diversified multi-family housing that accounts for 60% of all the housing forms, depending on the variations in stories through BIM-based energy simulation. For this study, four representative block types were selected, based on the multi-family floor plan, which is certified for energy performance evaluation and they were applied to the floor plan of a multi-family house that is scheduled to be built. Then BIM modeling was conducted from the fifth story to the 40th story at an intervals of 5 stories and based on the finding, energy characteristics of each block type and energy performance depending on the variations in stories were analyzed. It is considered that this would serve as objective data for block type and block story decision of energy performance-based multi-family housing.

  • It is important to consider an effect of concrete member sizes when estimating the ACI rectangular stress block of a reinforced concrete flexural member. However, the experimental data and analytical analyses are still not available for a proper evaluation. For all types of loading conditions, the trend is that the size of an ACI rectangular stress block tends to change when the member sizes change. In this paper, the size variations of strength coefficients for ACI rectangular stress block and actual stress distribution have been studied. Results of a series of C-shaped specimens subjected to axial compressive load and bending moment were adopted from references 1 and 2. The analysis results show that the effect of specimen sizes on strength coefficients for ACI rectangular stress block and actual stress distribution of concrete member was apparent. Thus, the results suggest that the current strength criteria based design practice should be reviewed.
