  • Active array radar is evolving into digital active array radar. Digital active array radar has many advantages for making several simultaneous radar beams from the digital receive data of each element. A digital-type transceiver(TR) module is suitable for this goal in radar. In this work, the design results of an L-band digital TR module are presented to verify the possibility of fabrication for a digital active array antenna. This L-band digital TR module consists of a gallium-nitride-type HPA to achieve a more than 350-W peak output power and one-chip transceivers that include a digital waveform generator and analog digital converter. The receiving gain was 47 dB, the noise figure was less than 2 dB, and the final output type of the four channel receiving paths was one optic signal.

  • STUMPS has been widely used for built-in self-test of scan design with multiple scan chains. In the STUMPS architecture, there is very high correlation between the bit sequences in the adjacent scan chains. This correlation causes circuits lower the fault coverage. In order to solve this problem, an extra combinational circuit block(phase shifter) is placed between the LFSR and the inputs of STUMPS architecture despite the hardware overhead increase. This paper introduces an efficient test pattern generation technique and built-in self-test architecture for sequential circuits with multiple scan chains. The proposed test pattern generator is not used the input of LFSR and phase shifter, hence hardware overhead can be reduced and sufficiently high fault coverage is obtained. Only several XOR gates in each scan chain are required to modify the circuit for the scan BIST, so that the design is very simple.

  • Areas of concentrations that can be exploited at all times, such as gas reservoirs in crude oil tanks, are called zero zones. In order to use various equipment in Zone 0, an intrinsically safe certification must be obtained that can guarantee that sparks will not occur in nature. Most devices that acquire intrinsic safety certification are mostly simple single-component devices or devices. In this study, it was a very difficult process because we intend to acquire the intrinsic safety certification of an electronic circuit including an ultrasonic generator and a microcontroller in which hundreds of components are mounted on a PCB substrate. Through this study, we have been able to understand how to design a circuit for intricate intrinsic safety certification. and Using the results of this study, it will be easier to design intrinsically safe circuits when trying to develop a circuit that can obtain intrinsic safety certification.

  • A parallel slide gate valve (PSGV) is located between the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and the steam turbine in a combined cycle power plant (CCPP). It is used to control the flow of steam and runs with repetitive operations such as startups, load changes, and shutdowns during its operation period. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the fatigue damage and the structural integrity under a large compressive thermal stress due to the temperature difference through the valve wall thickness during the startup operations. In this paper, the thermal-structural analysis and the fatigue life evaluation of a 16-inch PSGV, which is installed on the HP steam line, is performed according to the fatigue life assessment method described in the ASME B&PVC VIII-2; the method uses the equivalent stress from the elastic stress analysis.

  • The technology of supplying the electric power by wireless power transfer (WPT) is expected for the next generation power feeding system since it can supply the power to portable devices without any connectors through large air gap. As such a technology based on strongly coupled electromagnetic resonators is possible to deliver the large power and recharge them seamlessly; it has been considered as a noble option to wireless power charging system in the various power applications. Recently, various HTS wires have now been manufactured for demonstrations of transmission cables, motors, MAGLEV, and other electrical power components. However, since the HTS magnets have a lower index n value intrinsically, they are required to be charged from external power system through leads or internal power system. The portable area is limited as well as the cryogen system is bulkier. Thus, we proposed a novel design of wireless power charging system for superconducting HTS magnet (WPC4SM) based on resonance coupling method. As the novel system makes possible a wireless power charging using copper resonance coupled coils, it enables to portable charging conveniently in the superconducting applications. This paper presented the conceptual design and operating characteristics of WPC4SM using different shapes' copper resonance coil. The proposed system consists of four components; RF generator of 370 kHz, copper resonance coupling coils, impedance matching (IM) subsystem and HTS magnet including rectifier system.

  • This study has been done to design a precise system and develop position control algorithm to control a Composite Smoke Bomb Azimuth driving apparatus of a BLDC servo motor. Having to Blind the sight of opposite tank. the Smoke Bomb Rotational driving system needs instant response that is able to detect opponent appearance and blast the bomb at a short time. So a design that shows fast current response capability or $300[Hz]\sim500[Hz]$ is proposed. in the MIN-MAX PWM technology is used to increase the operational speed. in order to control the blasting position, a precision position control algorithm that utilizes the integral value of speed trajectory is suggested. Also these characteristics are monitored and assessed by the PC based monitoring program which shows the graphs of current, voltage, position, and speed parameters. The main controller is based on a TMS320VC33 high performance floating-point DSP(Digital Signal Process) and the PWM generator utilizes EPM7128 CPLD.

  • This paper proposes a disturbance observer based controller design method for generating and yawing control of windturbine with two cooperative generators. Windturbine system with two cooperative generators is a distinct structure in which the wind energy supplied by blade axis is converted into electrical energy by two cooperative generators. In this structure, two generators can be controlled independently and therefore they can generate power, simultaneously performing yawing control of nacelle without extra yawing mechanism by cooperatively controlling generating load in appropriate manner. Using this structural trait, this paper designs a disturbance observer based controller that enables the windturbine system with cooperative generators to generate and yaw stably, and verifies the performance of the controller experimentally by applying it to a small-scale windturbine system with the same structure.

  • This study is to design the transmitter and receiver of short range UWB(Ultra Wide Band) imaging radar that is able to display high resolution radar image for front area of a UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle). This radar can help a UGV to navigate autonomously as it detects and avoids obstacles through foliage. The transmitter needs two transmitters to improve the azimuth resolution. Multi-channel receivers are required to synthesize radar image. Transmitter consists of high power amplifier, channel selection switch, and waveform generator. Receiver is composed of sixteen channel receivers, receiver channel converter, and frequency down converter, Before manufacturing it, the proposed architecture of transceiver is proved by modeling and simulation using several parameters. Then, it was manufactured by using industrial RF(Radio Frequency) components and all other measured parameters in the specification were satisfied as well.

  • At present, domestic small islands mainly supply electric power using diesel generators. However, diesel generators can cause instability of the power system due to slow response on power load fluctuation, and cause environmental problems due to the emission of carbon gas by using fossil fuels. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes a method to establish an optimal microgrid by introducing solar power, wind power, and energy storage device to Chujado Island, which is supplied with electric power through a diesel generator. The economical optimum capacity of each distributed power source is calculated by using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources) program and the proposed microgrid is validated by using PSCAD/EMTDC (Power Systems Computer Aided Design/ Electromagnetic Transients including DC) program which can analyze system stability.
