Sensor Applications of Microporous Conjugated Polymers

  • In 1991, Prof. Toshio Masuda of Kyoto University for the first time synthesized a representative of diphenylacetylene polymer derivatives, poly[1-phenyl-2-(p-trimethylsilyl)phenylacetylene] [PTMSDPA]. This polymer is highly soluble nevertheless a ultra-high molecular weight (Mw) of > $1.0{\times}10^6$ which showed excellent chemical, physical, mechanical properties [1]. As one of the most interesting features of PTMSDPA, Prof. Katsumi Yoshino of Osaka Univ. reported that this polymer emits an intense fluorescence (FL) in a visible region because of the effective exciton confinement within the resonant structure between the polyene pi-conjugated chain and side phenyl full-aromatic bulky groups [2]. Very recently, Prof. Ben-Zhong Tang of Hong-Kong Institute of Science and Technology clarified the idea that the FL emission of disubstituted acetylene polymer derivatives originates from intramolecular excimer due to the face-to-face stacking of the side phenyl groups [3]. Thus, to know what influence to intramolecular excimer emission in the film as well as to further understand how the intramolecular excimer forms in the film became more crucial in order to further precisely design the optimized molecular structure for highly emissive, substituted acetylene polymers in the solid state. In recent studies, we have focused our interests on the origin of the FL emission in order to expand our knowledge to developments of novel sensor applications. It was found that the intramolecular phenyl-pheyl stack structure of PTMSDPA in film was variable in response to various external chemical stimuli. Using PTMSDPA and its derivatives, we have developed various potential applications such as latent fingerprint identification, viscosity sensor, chemical-responsive actuator, gum-like soft conjugated polymer, and bioimaging.   • Recently broadcasting production companies have imported a number of broadcast program formats to get ideas quickly and easily. The term format in broadcasting industry is defined as a paper form which includes principal elements throughout each episode of the series in a program to keep consistency. In case of the quiz program titled 1:100 which is being aired in Korea, the domestic company imported the format and produced to broadcast in Korea. In other words, a format includes components of the inherent creative ideas and proposals needed in production a program. The study proposed a web based collaborative system that many users create the format for the broadcast program together. the system is constructed to combine creative ideas to making them a format. Also, production experts will take advantage of the system.

Principles and Methods for Critical Mathematics Education: An Explorative Study of a Program (비판적 수학교육의 원리와 방법 탐색: 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초연구로서)

  • Due to globalization, diversification, and informatization, modern society confronts change and crisis in a variety of areas such as economy, politics, and culture. In that context, mathematics educators seek for how to reform school mathematics for democratic and just society. This research proposes critical mathematics education as an alternative model of school mathematics for democratic society. In particular, this research is an explorative study to construct a model of critical mathematics education program. For the purpose, we conducted a comprehensive literature review to identify goals, contents, and methods of teaching and learning, and method of assessment for critical mathematics education. We checked the validity of the model by using the cases of critical mathematics education. Since this research is explorative in the regard that the model is based on theoretical literatures, further research is necessary to extend the model through design research in school context.

Content Standards for K-9 Engineering Education (초등 및 중학교 수준의 공학교육 내용표준 제안)

  • The purpose of this study was to conceptualize the idea of engineering between science and technology, to classify the types of K-9 engineering education, and to develop content standards for it. The primary goal for an engineer is to design, create, and produce new tools, machines, and systems for practical means of human by exploiting technology and science. Engineering is the professional art of using technology, and the practical application of science and mathematics to achieve the optimum conversion of the resources of nature for the benefit of humankind. We reviewed the literatures and documents for background research, had surveys, and interviewed with engineers and educators to set the frame of the content standards for K-9 Engineering education and to construct standards for each sub-component. We developed and suggested the content standards for K-9 engineering education by examining and revising it.

  • Domestic construction firms make every effort to save cost and, contrarily, enhance quality for competitive advantage in the market. Structural work of building construction takes chaise of the total cost and schedule, thus elaborate planning and management of the work help to lead the project into a successful way. Therefore, the idea to save time and cost and enhance constructability securing quality and safety of the work should be developed after analyzing the designed documents and site conditions comprehensively in the initial construction planning phase. Value Engineering (VE) technique is introduced in the substructural work in this paper to save cost creatively and systematically in the design and construction phase. A practical VE model that is applied to the underground building work systematically is proposed to save cost and it applies to the actual project to confirm the effectiveness of the model.

Residents' Participation and Common Activities in an Intentional Community: The Case of the Mindlre Community

  • A new movement in forming community villages for better living standards is becoming popular. In order to sustain a proper community, it is essential to design proper community programs and facilities, which can encourage the proactive participation of residents. In this study, detailed aspects of the Mindlre (Dandelion) community (including formation process and management of the village) are investigated. The Mindlre community is a successful community village in Korea concerned with residents' participation and community activities. The community is located in Sancheong, Gyungsangnamdo province in Korea. The study methods are references, field trips, and interviews with residents. Six areas were surveyed and investigated: the physical environment of the Mindlre community and eco-friendly elements, respondents' background and the motivation to join, residents composition, residents' participation in the formation process of the community, self-management systems and common activities, and residents's life satisfaction. The mindlre Community was founded on Christian religions faith. The primary idea of this village was building a new hope for rural areas without discrimination. The size of the village was expanded with housing for teachers and students who were linked with the Mindlre School (substitution school). When the community was founded, existing shapes of the village were preserved. The village was physically renovated based on the original environment, in addition nature friendly materials and methods were used. The residents were proactively involved in the community through regular meetings, self-regulation, and community worship. Although the survey results should that most residents were highly satisfied with living standards, there seemed to be no clear division between community facilities and private houses. A systematic and detailed space planning technique was required. In addition, various community facilities are required due to the expansion of the community.

Depth Scaling Method of DirectX-based Stereoscopic Game Image (DirectX 기반 입체 게임 영상의 깊이감 조절 기법)

  • The development of image technologies in such area as broadcasting and movies has recently increased our attention to 3D stereoscopic images. In addition, the development of stereoscopic image representation technologies in 3D contents becomes more active over time due to the representational limitations of 2D images. Without limitation to the above-mentioned area, stereoscopic image technologies have been developed and studied so that they can be widely accessed in diverse areas including medical services and education. Due to the refined production, however, required to represent a three dimensional effects and the fatigue caused by the perception of a three dimensional effects, the stereoscopic image technologies are not combined into real time systems such as games where environments change unforeseeably. In this study we design a technique to adjust the depth scaling that will enable efficient management of a three dimensional effects and to relieve fatigue through automatic view point interval adjustment in accordance with situations based on the geometrical structure of the DirectX SDK graphic pipeline. Through this, we would like to suggest a new alternative idea to activate the production of games combined with stereoscopic image technologies.

Design of Beam-Forming Array Antenna with a Reconfigurable Power Divider (저손실 재구성 분배기를 이용한 빔 성형 배열 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, new beam-forming array antenna is proposed. The proposed beam-forming array antenna has control ability for beam-direction/width by employing low loss reconfigurable power divide and three-dimensional array structure. The reconfigurable power divider is key idea in the proposed antenna, because it has reconfigurable RF power distribution ability to each antenna. And, for research and verification of the proposed antenna, 3-dimensional beam-forming array antenna is implemented, and the experimental results show that the proposed antenna has various radiation modes from 1:1 to 1:N by adjusting RF power distribution.

A Study on the Idea of Materiality of New Media Art through Rethinking Kinetic Art (키네틱아트의 재조명을 통한 뉴미디어아트의 물질성에 대한 고찰)

  • The development of technology has always been influencing the worldview of the time, and this has been embodied through artistic media and contents throughout history. This paper begins with an overview on how the notion of movement in art has developed with the juxtaposition of materiality and immateriality or the conversion between the two by rethinking Kinetic Art which was popularized in the mid-twentieth century in America and Europe. Then, this is compared with New Media Art which employs advanced digital media techniques to generate virtual images. New Media Art requires some kinds of physical mechanisms and space for the embodiment of virtual images to some extent. The coexistence of material and immaterial aspects of New Media art is investigated through the contextualization with certain aspects of Kinetic Art.

A study on the entrepreneurial intention determinants of university students (대학생들의 창업의지 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study explored the entrepreneurial intention of university students by empirical study on them and studied the various variables, which have impact on their entrepreneurial intention. The result of examination on the impact factors of each independent variable on entrepreneurial intention was as following. There were significant relation with individual ability in individual characteristics and with safety orientation, autonomy orientation, technology orientation and business orientation in career orientation. The examination result on the impact of entrepreneurial environment on entrepreneurial intention was as following. There was significant relation between individual network and entrepreneurial policy. It was also possible to find that a student, who received entrepreneurial education as one of control variables, has higher entrepreneurial intention than a student who did not receive entrepreneurial education. Especially, business orientation was the most significant factor on entrepreneurial intention among multiple significant variables. Therefore, diverse entrepreneurial education programs should be developed and supplied so that university students can create business idea of own and reinforce the design ability related to the business.
