Design of a CubeSat test platform for the verification of small electric propulsion systems

  • Small satellites represent an emerging opportunity to realize a wide range of space missions at lower cost and faster delivery, compared to traditional spacecraft. However, small platforms, such as CubeSats, shall increase their actual capabilities. Miniaturized electric propulsion systems can provide the satellite with the key capability of moving in space. The level of readiness of miniaturized electric propulsion systems is low although many concepts have been developed. The present research intends to build a flexible test platform for the assessment of selected small propulsion systems in relevant environment at laboratory level. Main goal of the research is to analyze the mechanical, electrical, magnetic, and chemical interactions of propulsion systems with the modern CubeSat-technology and to assess the performance of the integrated platform. The test platform is a 6U CubeSat hosting electric propulsion systems, providing mechanical, electrical and data interfaces, able to handle a variety of electric propulsion systems, thanks to the ability to regulate and distribute electric power, to exchange data according to several protocols, and to provide different mechanical layouts. The test platform is ready to start the first verification campaign. The paper describes the detailed design of the platform and the main results of the AIV activities.

  • This paper proposes a MOS circuit extractor which extracts a netlist from the hierarchical mask information, for the verification tools. To utilize the regularity and the simple representation of the hierarchical circuit, and to reduce the debug cycle of design, verification, and modification, we propose a hierarvhical and incremental circuit extraction algorithm. In flat circuit extraction stage, the multiple storage quad tree is used as an internal data structure. Incremental circuit extraction using the hierarchical structure is made possible, to reduce the re-extraction time of the modified circuit.

  • In order to lessen cable vibration, new cable damper system with high damping rubber was developed using the basis of the LRB design scheme. The analysis model of cable damper system incorporate voigt-kelvin damper model into the nonlinear cable analysis model. To achieve maximum damping capacity both reducing damper stiffness and developing high damping rubber were performed. As a result of verification test, the high damping rubber damper show its effectiveness in improving cable damping capacity.

  • This paper describes a 32-bit RISC processor, which has instruction level compatibility with the ARM7 microprocessor. The processor is fully synthesizable, and its performance is evaluated based on 0.35-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS library. This paper focuses on the implementation of the processor and the reliable verification strategy ensuring the complete instruction level compatibility. The processor has successfully verified using a FPGA chip.

  • An OBCS(on-board control system) which controls an operation of high speed train is a distributed control system which centrally supervises and controls a distributed system if independent units. A complicated process of design, implementation and test is needed to develop this system. The OBCS and its control algorithm are designed and verified by using the CASE Tool before it is implemented. Its functions are verified by the OBCS simulator. Hereafter, this verification process for Korean high-speed train being developed is presented.

  • For the improvement of productivity, the reduction of cost and time for manufacturing is mandatory, especially in the field of electromic industry. The study is concerned with a practical means of systematic assistance to formability estimation and selection of reliable design specification for electronic sheet metal parts. The objective of this research work is to develop a simulation system which hops to analyze the target processes with the finite element method and to acquire available design data quickly and exactly. The simulation system developed in the study consists of design verification, selection of optimal combination of parameters, knowledge acquisition and graphical user interface(GUI). Design verification is automatically carried out by using the finite element method. A data base management system and nomograms are utilized for knowledge acquisition. The developed system has been applied to some major sheet metal forming operations such as flanging, embossing, bending and blanking. According to the simulated results, the validation of the target processes has been confirmend. Analysis data, estimation rules of formability and graphical representation of the analysis have been employed for the designer's understanding and evaluation, thus providing a practical means of robust design and evaluation of forma- bility for producing electronic sheet metal parts.

  • An application-oriented approach to automatic pass schedule design in shape rolling was presented in this paper. The design approach and its related program are composed of several modules for input data, graphic display, data processing, calculation of design information, drawing of detailed pass shapes, database management and finite element analysis for design verification. The developed program was applied to automatic pass schedule design for a square-to-round bar shape rolling.

  • In order to design suitable geo-structures in cold region, it is generally required to consider the mechanical properties of permafrost soils. 'Frost heave' as one of the primary phenomenon is considered to be an important factor together with 'adfreeze bond-strength' and 'creep deformation' for structural design process in permafrost area. Therefore, the fundamental study for frost heave has to be preceded for design of geo-structures in cold region. While various experimental apparatuses have been developed, there still exist a certain level of limitation to evaluate the frost-heave characteristics as design parameters. In this paper, a new type of experimental apparatus is proposed to evaluate the engineering characteristics of frost heave in permafrost soils and a set of verification test results is presented. Based on the verification tests, the proposed apparatus is a suitable to obtain frost characteristics of soils.

  • To realize the U-healthcare system, the mobile patient monitoring system is of the essence. In this monitoring system, a patient's real-time data on biometrics and location must be transferred to predeterminate destination server ceaselessly. As the number of mobile patients increases steadily or mobile patients are moving into some specific area, the load balancing solution to real-time data congestion problem is needed. In this paper, we propose a new mobile patient monitoring system with Torus topology where three layers are connected hierarchically and the intermediate layer takes charge of priority-based load balancing. For the formalized design and verification of proposed system, we describe the overall structure with connectivity among its components and implement major components in pseudo-code by adopting a system specification-based approach. This approach makes the design and verification of our mobile patient monitoring system more flexible and accurate.
