  • In this study, a two-layer feed-forward neural network was constructed and applied to determine a mapping associating mix design and testing factors of cement-nano silica (NS)-rice husk ash ternary blended concrete samples with their performance in conductance to the water absorption properties. To generate data for the neural network model (NNM), a total of 174 field cores from 58 different mixes at three ages were tested in the laboratory for each of percentage, velocity and coefficient of water absorption and mix volumetric properties. The significant factors (six items) that affect the permeability properties of ternary blended concrete were identified by experimental studies which were: (1) percentage of cement; (2) content of rice husk ash; (3) percentage of 15 nm of $SiO_2$ particles; (4) content of NS particles with average size of 80 nm; (5) effect of curing medium and (6) curing time. The mentioned significant factors were then used to define the domain of a neural network which was trained based on the Levenberg-Marquardt back propagation algorithm using Matlab software. Excellent agreement was observed between simulation and laboratory data. It is believed that the novel developed NNM with three outputs will be a useful tool in the study of the permeability properties of ternary blended concrete and its maintenance.

  • The current study designs the mission orbit of the lunar CubeSat spacecraft to measure the lunar local magnetic anomaly. To perform this mission, the CubeSat will impact the lunar surface over the Reiner Gamma swirl on the Moon. Orbit analyses are conducted comprising ${\Delta}V$ and error propagation analysis for the CubeSat mission orbit. First, three possible orbit scenarios are presented in terms of the CubeSat's impacting trajectories. For each scenario, it is important to achieve mission objectives with a minimum ${\Delta}V$ since the CubeSat is limited in size and cost. Therefore, the ${\Delta}V$ needed for the CubeSat to maneuver from the initial orbit toward the impacting trajectory is analyzed for each orbit scenario. In addition, error propagation analysis is performed for each scenario to evaluate how initial errors, such as position error, velocity error, and maneuver error, that occur when the CubeSat is separated from the lunar orbiter, eventually affect the final impact position. As a result, the current study adopts a CubeSat release from the circular orbit at 100 km altitude and an impact slope of $15^{\circ}$, among the possible impacting scenarios. For this scenario, the required ${\Delta}V$ is calculated as the result of the ${\Delta}V$ analysis. It can be used to practically make an estimate of this specific mission's fuel budget. In addition, the current study suggests error constraints for ${\Delta}V$ for the mission.

  • Suspended particles behavior when they go through a vertical riser with heat transfer is of significant concern to system designers and operators in pneumatic transport, various processes such as in chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries. When it comes with the energy system, that knowledge is critical to the reliable design practices of related equipment as heat exchangers, especially in the phase of system scale-up. Without haying a good understanding of the related physics, many scale-up practices based on their pilot plant experience suffer from unexpected behaviors and problems of unstable fluidization typically associated with excessive pressure drop, pressure fluctuation and even unsuccessful particle circulation. In the present study, we try to explain the observed phenomena with related physics, which may help understanding of our unanswered experiences and to provide the designers with more reliable resources for their work. We selected hot exhaust gas with solid particle that goes through a heat exchanger riser as our model to be considered. The effect of temperature change on the gas velocity, thermodynamic properties, and eventually on the particles motion behavior is reviewed along with some heat transfer analyses. The present study presents an optimal riser length at full scale under given conditions, and also defines the theoretical limiting length of the riser. The field data from the numerical analysis was validated against our experimental results.

  • Transverse bed slope in bend is a subject of scientific investigation since it provides the necessary information for channel design and protection of hydraulic structures (bank, bridge, etc), and study of river morphology. In this paper, selected models were examined and compared for the value of prediction of the transverse bed slope in curved alluvial channels(project area), by using field data, and fitting model was proposed. All models that related the local transverse bed slope to mean flow characteristics were alike in the sense that they predicted the local transverse bed slope to be proportional to the ratio between depth and radius of curvature. The difference among the models was related with the factor of proportionality, K. Also, measured transverse bed slope was correlated to mean velocity, maximum depth, and density Froude number in channel bend. In this paper selected models were compared for the prediction of the transverse bed slope using Odgaard's experiment (obtained in Sacramento River bend), so Odgaard89 model was closely related with real transverse bed slope.

  • In this study, we analyzed physical properties of granites and their correlation with rock mass classification methods. The granite samples were obtained from field survey, in-situ borehole tests and laboratory tests for a design phase of various roads, railways and other civil engineering works in Korea. Among the measured physical properties, the results of unit weight, compressive strength, tensile strength, seismic velocity, cohesion, friction angle, elastic modulus and deformation modulus were introduced. We also correlated these properties with the compressive strength. The results of different rock classification method of RQD, RMR, and Q-system against the granites in Korea were compared with each other, and the correlation equations were proposed in a more simplified form. We also derived RMR values using the compressive strength as well as the RQD values of in-situ drilled cores, and estimated the deformation modulus of in-situ rock mass in terms of the RMR values.

  • This study is about design for the Rotational Instrument of the Industry factory which is used management safety and maintenance. We developed the multichannel vibration monitering system of the self-diagnosis for middle level CMS(Condition Monitoring System) market, and that system are new features to the expandability and flexibility. Normally one channel is used for treating one signal, but developed instrument can treat four channel with one signal processing card. One rack have redundant power supply and displace and it can check vibration measurement value in field without computer. Bearing fault detection is fundamental of vibration surveillance, but sometimes can not check with vibration velocity and acceleration. So it need the filtering and the amplitude modulation on the acceleration enveloping technology when irregular vibration is happened. We developed the vibration analysis instrument which is applied such technology. And the development prototype shows activated within the vibration error limit.

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish using magnetic power of magnet. That method is one of precision polishing techniques and has an aim of the clean technology using for the pure of gas and inside of the clean pipe. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common for machine that it is not spreaded widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper deals with development of the magnetic abrasive using Sr-Ferrite. In this development, abrasive grain GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And Sr-Ferrite of magnetic abrasive powder fabricated that Sr-Ferrite was crused into 200 mesh. The XRD analysis result show that only GC abrasive and Sr-Ferrite crystal peaks detected which explains resin bond was not any more chemical reaction. From SEM analysis it is found that GC abrasive and Sr-Ferrite were strong bonding with each other by bond. The magnetic polishing is performed by polishing the surface of pipe by attracting magnetic abrasives with magnetic fields. This can be widely applied for finishing machinery fabrications such as various pipes and for other safety processes. In this paper, we could have investigated in to the changes of the movement of magnetic abrasive grain. In reference to this result, we could have made the experiment which is set under the condition of the magnetic flux density, polishing velocity according to the form of magnetic brush.

  • The ducted fan for a small UAV propulsion can reconnoiter and observe in a town and a small area, it has better thrust efficiency and a long endurance than propeller. Thrust characteristics of hover and for ward flight condition for the ducted fan UAV is important issue to improve a endurance. The unsteady 3-dimensional flow fields of the ducted fan UAV is essential to stable flight. In this paper, to verify the design results of the ducted fan and to investigate a stable aeronautical characteristic, the thrust performance and the unsteady 3-dimensional flow fields are measured. Thrust characteristics for the hovering and the forward flight conditions are measured by the 6-components balance system in the subsonic wind tunnel. The unsteady 3-dimensional flow fields are analyzed by using a stationary $45^{\circ}$ slanted hot-wire technique. The swirl velocity is almost removed behind the stator blades. Therefore, the thrust performance of the ducted fan is improved and the flight stability is maintained.

  • In this study, the hydrodynamic characteristics of Weis-Fogh type water turbine were calculated by the advanced vortex method. The wing (NACA0010 airfoil) and both channel walls were approximated by source and vortex panels, and free vortices are introduced away from the body surfaces. The distance from the trailing edge of the wing to the wing axis, the width of the water channel and the maximum opening angle were selected as the calculation parameters, the important design factors. The maximum efficiency and the power coefficient for one wing of this water turbine were 26% and 0.4 at velocity ratio U/V=2.0 respectively. The flow field of this water turbine is very complex because the wing moves unsteadily in the channel. However, using the advanced vortex method, it could be calculated accurately.
