Development of Initial Design Stage Guidelines for nearly Zero Energy Offices : A Central-Climate Zone of Korea Case Study

  • This study aimed to develop a design manual to be used during the initial stage of the nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) design process. Recently, with the increased demand for nZEBs, there are many architects and architectural firms who are becoming interested in nZEB design. However, since the nZEB design process requires a different approach to the conventional building design process, architects have difficulties with application of the nZEB design process in their projects. Therefore, a design manual which can be used in the nZEB design process was developed in this study. Based on an intensive literature review, energy-saving strategies and their performance levels, which affect heating and cooling energy consumptions were established for a reference building. To analyze the sensitivity of each energy strategy to the overall performance, computer simulations using EnergyPlus were performed. At the same time, an Analysis of Variance assessment was conducted to estimate the relative importance of each energy factor. The energy sensitivity and priority of the energy factors was developed into a set of design guidelines.

상용차용 수동변속기 윤활시스템의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics in Lubrication System of Manual Transmission in a Commercial Vehicle)

  • In this study, numerical analysis was conducted to understand the flow characteristics of lubrication system in a manual transmission installed in a commercial vehicle. Also, the analysis was conducted with the purpose of improving the heat and lubricative condition of the transmission. Discharging flow rates on each oil hole outlet according to various engine rotating speed and the length of oil hole branch was calculated. In conclusion, as engine rotating speed is high and the length of oil hole branch is long, the discharging flow rate is high by virtue of the centrifugal force. In addition, this study proposed data for optimal design of lubrication system in manual transmission for a commercial vehicle.

근궤적과 수동 조정에 의한 직접 구동형 서보밸브의 PID 제어기 및 미분피드백 이득 설계 (PID Controller and Derivative-feedback Gain Design of the Direct-drive Servo Valve Using the Root Locus and Manual Tuning)

  • The direct-drive servo valve(DDV) is a kind of one-stage valve because the main spool valve is directly driven by the dc motor. Since the DDV structure is simple, it is less expensive, more reliable, and offers a reduced internal leakage and a reduced sensitivity to fluid contamination. The control system of the DDV is highly nonlinear due to a current limiter, a voltage limiter, and the flow-force effect on the spool motion. The shape of the step response of the DDV-control system varies considerably according to the magnitudes of the step input and the load pressure. The system-design requirements mean that the overshoots should be less than 20%, and the errors at 0.02s should be less than 2%, regardless of the reference-step input sizes of 1V and 5V and the load-pressure magnitudes of 0MPa and 20.7MPa. To satisfy the system-design requirements, the PID-controller parameters of $K_c$, $T_i$ and $T_d$, and the derivative-feedback gain of $K_{der}$ are designed using the root locus and manual tuning.

Road Alignment Design Using GIS

  • In this study, several basic data for road design and GIS data were used for selecting the optimized road alignment database system. The cut and fill volumes were compared with existing manual road design method through the analysis and data application in this database system. We solved and estimated objective, economic, environmental and technical problems caused in road construction comparing existing manual method with the road alignment which was selected in GIS automatically. Also, we performed three dimensional simulation with the existing road design program and simulation of virtual reality through Virtual GIS. This study showed the method in selecting the optimized road alignment through the analysis and comparison of the selected road alignment. The goal of this study is comparison and analysis of definite cut and fill volume and environmental problem after the road construction through analyzing and comparing the social, economic, technical and environmental aspect in the road alignments with various statistic data.

침대 이송 기능을 갖춘 수동식 휠체어 설계 (Design of Manual Wheelchair with a Function of Bed Transfer)

  • In general, manual wheelchairs have played important roles in moving patients from one place to another. However, patients have experienced discomfort getting on and off because of the need for physical assistance. This can be more serious if a patient has handicaps involving the arms or legs. In addition, it could be unpleasant for both the patient and assistant because of the need for extensive physical contact with each other. At times, a weak nurse feels that there is a risk when transferring a heavy patient from a bed to a wheelchair. In this paper, a new non-powered wheelchair is designed to assist in transferring a patient to their bed. This design considers the convenience of both the patient and assistant when the patient is transferred from a wheelchair to a bed and vice versa. The operation minimizes the physical contact between the assistant and the patient. The new wheelchair is also lightweight and portable compared with the normal popular wheelchair.

Immediate Effects of Appling Resistance in the Bridge Exercise on Muscle Activity in the Trunk and Lower Extremities

  • Background: The bridge exercise prevents repeated damage to the tissues around the spine by reducing stimulus transmission to the ligaments and joint capsules, thereby alleviating back pain. It also contributes to strengthening the muscles of the lower extremities. Design: A Single Subject experience design. Methods: This study was conducted on 28 healthy adults in their 20s to 30s and conducted at St. Mary's Hospital in C City from May to July 2021. Four types of bridge exercise were performed in this study: the normal bridge exercise and bridge exercises with 0.5%, 1%, or 1.5% body weight resistance applied on the pelvis through manual resistance during the bridge exercise and to determine the effect of resistance applied in the bridge exercise on the activation of the trunk and lower extremities muscles. Results:This study showed that the muscle activity of the trunk and lower extremities improved significantly in response to stronger resistance when manual resistance equivalent to 0.5%, 1%, or 1.5% of body weight was applied during the bridge exercise compared to when the normal bridge exercise was performed. Conclusion: This study shows that manual resistance can be applied as an effective method of bridge exercise since muscle activity in the trunk and lower extremities increases when manual resistance causing isometric contraction is applied.

Manual Handling in Aged Care: Impact of Environment-related Interventions on Mobility

  • The manual handling of people (MHP) is known to be associated with high incidence of musculoskeletal disorders for aged care staff. Environment-related MHP interventions, such as appropriate seated heights to aid sit-to-stand transfers, can reduce staff injury while improving the patient's mobility. Promoting patient mobility within the manual handling interaction is an endorsed MHP risk control intervention strategy. This article provides a narrative review of the types of MHP environmental controls that can improve mobility, as well as the extent to which these environmental controls are considered in MHP risk management and assessment tools. Although a range of possible environmental interventions exist, current tools only consider these in a limited manner. Development of an assessment tool that more comprehensively covers environmental strategies in MHP risk management could help reduce staff injury and improve resident mobility through auditing existing practices and guiding the design of new and refurbished aged care facilities.

척추측만증의 추나치료에 대한 문헌 고찰 연구 보고 (Chuna Manual Therapy for Spinal Scoliosis : A Review of Clinical Study)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the scientific literature demonstrating the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) in the treatment of spinal scoliosis. Methods : A literature search was conducted using eight electronic databases to identify all randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) that investigated CMT as a treatment for spinal scoliosis. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the methodological quality of each RCT. Results : Five RCTs met our inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. These studies demonstrated positive results of CMT with respect to the reduction of Cobb's angle, vertebral rotation angle score, bending test score, and efficacy rate compared with brace treatment. Positive results were also assured, in terms of the reduction of Cobb's angle, pulmonary function, and efficacy rate when comparing CMT combined with other therapy with brace treatment, gymnastic training, or traction therapy. Conclusions : This review has identified encouraging and limited evidence of CMT for the treatment of spinal scoliosis. However, to obtain stronger evidence, without the disadvantages of study design and quality, we recommend that treatment effectiveness of CMT for spinal scoliosis is investigated further using a well-designed RCT.
