Normal strategy of structure optimization procedure has been minimum cost or weight design. Minimum weight design satisfying an allowable stress has been used for the ship and offshore structure, but minimum cost design could be used for the case of high human cost. Natural frequency analysis and forced vibration one have been used for the strength estimation of marine structures. For the case of high precision experiment facilities in marine field, the structure has normally enough margin in allowable stress aspect and sometimes needs high natural frequency of structure to obtain very high precise experiment results. It is not easy to obtain a structure design with high natural frequency, since the natural frequency depend on the stiffness to mass ratio of the structure and increase of structural stiffness ordinary accompanies the increase of mass. It is further difficult at the grillage structure design using the profiles, because the properties of profiles are not continuous but discrete, and resource of profiles are limited at the design of grillage structure. In this paper, the grillage structure design system under the constraint of high natural frequency is introduced. The design system adopted genetic algorithm to realize optimization procedure and can be used at the design of the experimental facilities of marine field such as a towing carriage, PMM, test frame, measuring frame and rotating arm.
This paper presents a study on the design optimization of a 5 kW plasma discharger for driving plasma reactor. The proposed study is composed of a high-frequency inverter based on the full-bridge circuit using soft switching techniques for high-frequency switching. The switching frequency in the operating region is the area of 130-200 kHz. By applying the LC resonance technique and a variable switching frequency, control technique is designed to be stable under changes in the load characteristics of the plasma reactor. This paper presents a quantitative analysis technique for design optimization. Experiments are performed according to load characteristic variations depending on the vacuum of the plasma reactor. This paper has verified the topology and design method for the 5 kW plasma discharger design.
In order to find the optimum design of structures that have characteristic natural frequency range, a numerical optimization method to solving eigenvalue problems is a widely used approach. However in the most cases, it is difficult to decide the accurate thickness and shape of structures that have allowable natural frequency in design constraints. Parallel analysis algorithm involving the feasible direction optimization method and Rayleigh-Ritz eigenvalue solving method is developed. The method is implemented by using finite element method. It calculates the optimal thickness and the thickness ratio of individual elements of the 2-D plane element through a parallel algorithm method which satisfy the design constraint of natural frequency. As a result this method of optimization for natural frequency by using finite element method can determine the optimal size or its ratio of geometrically complicated shape and large scale structure.
A novel design for equilateral-triangular microstrip antennas with switchable resonant frequency is proposed. For dual-frequency operation, the proposed design is achieved by loading a pair of slits in the triangular patch, and two PIN diodes are utilized to switch the slits on or off. By increasing the length of the slits, the lower resonant frequency can be varied in the range from 1.22 GHz to 1.72 GHz whereas the upper resonant frequency remains unchanged.
This study was conducted to derive the regional design rainfall by the regional frequency analysis based on the regionalization of the precipitation suggested by the first report of this project. According to the regions and consecutive durations, optimal design rainfalls were derived by the regional frequency analysis for L-moment in the second report of this project. Using the LH-moment ratios and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the optimal regional probability distribution was identified to be the Generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution among applied distributions. regional and at-site parameters of the GEV distribution were estimated by the linear combination of the higher probability weighted moments, LH-moment. Design rainfall using LH-moments following the consecutive duration were derived by the regional and at-site analysis using the observed and simulated data resulted from Monte Carlo techniques. Relative root-mean-square error (RRMSE), relative bias (RBIAS) and relative reduction (RR) in RRMSE for the design rainfall were computed and compared in the regional and at-site frequency analysis. Consequently, it was shown that the regional analysis can substantially more reduce the RRMSE, RBIAS and RR in RRMSE than at-site analysis in the prediction of design rainfall. Relative efficiency (RE) for an optimal order of L-moments was also computed by the methods of L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moments for GEV distribution. It was found that the method of L-moments is more effective than the others for getting optimal design rainfall according to the regions and consecutive durations in the regional frequency analysis. Diagrams for the design rainfall derived by the regional frequency analysis using L-moments were drawn according to the regions and consecutive durations by GIS techniques.
This paper provides the basic theory and numerical results of shell design optimization considering the appearance of close natural frequencies in optimization process. In this study the fundamental natural frequency to be maximized is considered as the objective function and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. In addition, the constraints related to natural frequency is also adopted to avoid the natural frequency closeness phenomenon during the optimization iteration. The Coon's patch is used to represent the shape and thickness distribution of shells. A degenerated shell finite element is adopted to calculate the fundamental natural frequency of the shells. The SQP available in the optimizer DoT is used to search optimum solution. From numerical results, the introduction of the frequency constraint into shell design optimization can deeply affect on the final optimum shape of shells although it is likely to be used to avoid the frequency closeness phenomenon.
This study uses a fashion shop facade design to track human gaze, find gaze frequency for gaze time for the gaze points along the path of sight, and expose the importance of facade design and figure out the value through theoretical systematization. Thus, this study employed the measurement method in physiological psychology which is sight-tracking device with eye-tracking to perform effective data evaluation. To find gaze frequency and study the contents to reflect on the facade, precedent study review, and case study of facade design to collect stimulants to be used in eye-tracking experiment were executed. And the eye-tracking experiment which traces the movement of eye[pupil] was performed. As the result of analyzing gaze frequency, The characteristics of such gaze path formation made the characteristics for gaze frequency even clearer. What was characteristic in the analysis result according to 'average value for gaze time' was that only 8 out of 2000 areas showed over 1 second of frequency and, and all other shoed less than 1 second of gaze time. This indicates that human sight endlessly jumps around, and that it 'Stay' where it has interest. This study found the average of the frequency of this 'Stay' in facade design. This study well presents the major points to add value to the design of the space of facade based on scientific measurement/analysis data obtained through visual understanding. Through such, this study is thought to be able to have a positive interaction with marketing by forming a theoretical background bringing utility to purchase environment and assisting in sales increase.
This paper presents analysis, modeling, and design of a low-harmonic, isolated, active-clamped SEPIC for future avionics applications. Simpler converter dynamics, high switching frequency, zero voltage-Transition-PWM switching, and a single-layer transformer construction result. This paper describes complete design of a digital controller for a high-frequency switching power supply. Guidelines for the minimum required resolution of the analog-to-digital converter, the pulse-width modulator, and the fixed-point computational unit is derived. A design example based on a SEPIC converter operating at the high switching frequency is presented. The controller design is based on direct digital design approach and standard root-locus techniques.

In this paper, we develop a co-design methodology of stochastic optimal controllers and network parameters that optimizes the overall quality of control (QoC) in networked control systems (NCSs). A new dynamic model for NCSs is provided. The relationship between the system stability and performance and the sampling frequency is investigated, and the analysis of co-design of control and network parameters is presented to determine the working range of the sampling frequency in an NCS. This optimal sampling frequency range is derived based on the system dynamics and the network characteristics such as data rate, time-delay upper bound, data-packet size, and device processing time. With the optimal sampling frequency, stochastic optimal controllers are designed to improve the overall QoC in an NCS. This co-design methodology is a useful rule of thumb to choose the network and control parameters for NCS implementation. The feasibility and effectiveness of this co-design methodology is verified experimentally by our NCS test bed, a ball magnetic-levitation (maglev) system.
