  • The district units planning suggests not only detailed standards of building as parts of the whole plan in the district but also a guideline of the arrangement, shape and pavement of the public open space, in order to move away from the rigid image of an institution which causes the formal creation of it. This triggered various problems. While the basic plan for adjustment of urban environments(established in 2005) was being reorganized in order to reflect changed conditions of the city center, the sector of public open space was subdivided according to the guidelines of development by district. We conducted a comparative analysis of conditions before and after the adjustment, so as to examine whether or not the reorganized institution is effective for the plan of public open spaces. The analysis showed that there was no remarkable change between the basic plan and the reorganized institution in that items which were not any different from the existing building codes were established due to lack of guidelines related to public open space under the law of urban and residential environmental improvement. Low regulations should set up criteria for establishment from a concrete, effective microscopic aspect appropriate to the significance of public open space by the linking of public open space and the surrounding environment, whereas high regulations such as building codes should specify essential components.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory behavior of young males in terms of self-identified thermal tolerance. We recruited 436 male students from Seoul ($24.0{\pm}4.6yr$ in age, $175.3{\pm}5.5cm$ in height, $70.1{\pm}10.6kg$ in body mass, and $23.0{\pm}2.7$ in BMI) in accordance with four types of self-identified thermal tolerance: 1) tolerable of both cold and heat, BCH (N=15); 2) heat tolerable only, HTO (N=118); 3) cold tolerable only, CTO (N=162); and 4) neither cold nor heat tolerable, NCH (N=141). The questionnaire consisted of 55 questions regarding preference to cold or heat environment, seasonal thermoregulatory behaviors including clothing habits, seasonal sleeping environments, health care/physical fitness, and anthropometric items. The results showed that: 1) BCH preferred less auxiliary heating devices, gloves/hats, or thermal underwear in winter and had very few experiences with cold/heat injuries or catching a cold, whereas NCH showed the opposite behavior and experiences as BCH; 2) thermoregulatory behaviors were not symmetrical between summer and winter. Most male students preferred cold beverage/foods to using cooling devices to lower body temperature in summer, whereas auxiliary heating devices were preferred to warm beverage/foods to maintain body temperature in winter; 3) thermoregulatory behaviors of NCH had more items in common with HTO than CTO, while the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than HTO. Overall, we confirmed that thermoregulatory behaviors were apparently classified by self-identified thermal tolerance, and such behaviors could be adjusted by improving cold or heat tolerance.

  • In order to develop the cooling load estimation method in the greenhouse, the cooling load calculation formula based on the heat balance method was constructed and verified by the actual cooling load measured in the fog cooling greenhouse. To examine the ventilation heat transfer in the cooling load calculation formula, we measured ventilation rates in the experimental greenhouse which a cooling system was not operated. The ventilation heat transfer by a heat balance method showed a relatively good agreement. Evaporation efficiencies of the two-fluid fogging system were a range of 0.3 to 0.94, average 0.67, and it showed that they increased as the ventilation rate increased. We measured thermal environments in a fog cooling greenhouse, and calculated cooling load by heat balance equation. Also we calculated evaporative cooling energy by measuring the sprayed amount in the fogging system. And by comparing those two results, we could verify that the calculated and the measured cooling load showed a relatively similar trend. When the cooling load was low, the measured value was slightly larger than calculated, when the cooling load was high, it has been found to be smaller than calculated. In designing the greenhouse cooling system, the capacity of cooling equipment is determined by the maximum cooling load. We have to consider the safety factor when installed capacity is estimated, so a cooling load calculation method presented in this study could be applied to the greenhouse environmental design.

  • Units assembled in the liquid-propellant propulsion system of launch vehicles should guarantee their on- and off-design performances under the various environments as well as at the various operation modes for the launch preparation and flight of launch vehicles. Units of liquid-propellant propulsion system can be installed in launch vehicle to insert satellite(s) into target orbit(s) only under the condition that all units must pass a series of tests to confirm whether those units perform normally as designed under the environment, which may be occurred in such stages of all development and operations as development, qualification, acceptance, assembly, pre-launch preparation, launch, and flight, and whether those units have been developed according to design requirements. Requirements for such tests have been already prepared in the advanced countries in launch vehicle systems based on experiences for decades. In Korea, where is now pursuing the development of KSLV-II, the research and development of launch vehicles using liquid-propellant propulsion system have been undergone during over 10 years. Hence test requirements for the development of units consisting of liquid-propellant propulsion system should be defined and Koreanized according to the domestic environment and circumstances and based on the experiences accumulated. In this paper requirements for the tests of units in liquid-propellant propulsion system, which can be feasible domestically, have been reviewed and defined.

  • To face with the fast and ever changing telecommunication environments, we need a real time process management system that can detect abnormal events in real time and warn the suspicious events to operations personnel. Additionally, a real time process management system can be adapted fast to various services that are developed by telecom companies. In this paper we develop a real time process management system to monitor and analyze telecom operations and management processes in real time. Toward this, we design application and database architectures of telecom operations and management processes based on Enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) that is business process framework in telecommunication operations and management field and recognized as an international standard in ITU-T M.3050. With these application and databasearchitectures we implement eight main functions for the real time process management system based on service oriented architecture. Therefore, new services can be applied to these functions fast. Also, the functions can detect abnormal event fast. Finally, since the functions are developed along with the international standard, the system has the flexibility for the development in various situations. Overall, this research can be a good guideline of developing a process management system regarding the telecom operations and management field or other fields that need to manage the processes in real time.

  • Real-time operating systems must have satisfying various conditions such as effective scheduling policies, minimized interrupt delay, resolved priority inversion problems, and its applications to be completed within desired deadline. The real-time operating systems, therefore, should be designed and developed to be optimal for these requirements. MicroC/OS-II, a kind of Real-time operating systems, uses the basic priority inheritance with a mutex to solve priority inversion problems. For the implementation of mutex, the kernel in an operating system should provide supports for numerous tasks with same priority. However, MicroC/OS-II does not provide this support for the numerous tasks of same priority. To solve this problem, MicroC/OS-II cannot but using priority reservation, which leads to the waste of unnecessary resources. In this study, we have dealt with new design a protocol, so called TPSP(Temporary Priority Swap Protocol), by an effective solution for above-mentioned problem, eventually enabling embedded systems with constrained resources environments to run applications.

  • As a professional occupation, landscape education focuses on fostering professional human resources and is one of the major axes of the landscape industry. In this study, a survey of landscape students on their learning and pedagogics was conducted with the aim to present basic information for the improvement of teaching on landscape construction. A total of 348 people answered 14 questions in the category of the impression of landscape construction classes included in the questionnaire. The results showed that the students found landscape construction classes academically important and recognized the necessity for completing these classes, but they were not satisfied with the learning environments and pedagogics used in these classes. They found what they learned not readily applicable to actual practice and saw these classes as part of their preparations for the landscape engineer qualification test. Their demands in relation to the classes included field practice-oriented teaching and participation in various programs for field practice, which highlights the necessity for human resource management-oriented classes that cover planning, design, construction, and management. Challenges in relation to field practice included the provision of environment, for example offering a variety of opportunities and improving treatment in practice. This study has significance in that it analyzed the views of students and discussed directions for future improvement since there is a lack of studies and discussions about education in the field of landscape construction. This study also has a limitation that only four-year universities were included in the study. Comprehensive studies including investigating junior college and graduate school curricula and case studies of landscape construction curricula overseas are needed in the future.

  • In this paper, we analyze the spectral efficiency of multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) scheme. First, we derive a generalized formula for the spectral efficiency according to the number of subcarriers involved in, code division multiplexing and the number of codes used (i.e., loading factor), under a given set of channel coefficients. Also, we derive a generalized formula for spectral efficiency of various reduced-complexity systems that divide the full sets of subcarriers into several groups of subcarriers for code division multiplexing. Then, through these derivations, we establish an inter-relationship between the frequency selectivity and diversity order according to the number of multipaths. From the results, we choose the smallest code length while maximizing the diversity effect, provide an optimum subcarrier allocation strategy, and finally suggest a system structure for capacity-maximizing under the smallest code length. Through numerical analyses under simulated environments, we analyze the properties of spectral efficiency of various systems with reduced complexity and choose a major contributing factors to system design and a better system design methodology. Finally, we compare the spectral efficiency of the MC-CDMA scheme and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme to make a relationship between both schemes.

  • In the 21st century, people began to pay more attention on the culture, and the chances for them to participate in the cultural lives also increased. The spaces for entertainments can also be deemed as the center of the cultural contents. The entertainment is, in consideration of its definition by the literal meaning and the origin of the word itself, 'an act that entertains, or any artificial creation that is designed to give entertainment with a view to relieve the subjects from the burdens they have as they live.'Of the modem entertainment spaces, the one with the most profound visual manifestation of the entertainment element is the club. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence from the entertaining element manifested in the club spaces. Only until a few years back, the club spaces were deemed with negative impressions that comes with the more negative side of the entertaining world. But, recently such negative impressions are lift off considerably, and the club spaces are regarded with positive impressions as to be the kind of place where the young people can enjoy performances and other kind of culture in healthy atmosphere. In Chapter 2, we will examine the entertainment and the nature of the pleasure it gives, as well as the correlation between the entertaining environments and the pleasure they give. In chapter 3, the entertaining elements within such contexts are classified into the experience, form, color, objects, and the lightings and examine the characteristics of each of them. Also, the influences of these elements to the entertaining environment will be reviewed. In the case study in chapter 4, 9 overseas and domestic club spaces that were introduced in 'Interior World' magazines, that is, in the issues that are focused on 'Entertainment,'such as Issue 59, 68, and 79. As a result of the analysis, the influences of the entertaining, or pleasing, elements were discovered. The particular expression characteristics of the pleasing designs in the club spaces are, namely, the form elements, material elements, color elements, objects elements, and the lighting elements. As the society changes and the cultural level goes up, the club spaces are required to adopt more changes. Therefore, the pleasing elements of the space should receive further emphasis. These elements will act as a trend in the space and make the people appreciate the space more refreshing.
