  • The objective of this paper is to present the element connectivity parameterization (ECP) fur three dimensional problems. In the ECP method, a continuum structure is viewed as discretized finite elements connected by zero-length elastic links whose stiffness values control the degree of inter-element connectivity. The ECP method can effectively avoid the formation of the low-density unstable elements. These elements appear when the standard element density method is used for geometrical nonlinear problems. In this paper, this ECP method developed fur two-dimensional problems is expanded to the design of three-dimensional geometrical nonlinear structures. Among others, the automatic procedure converting standard finite element models to the models suitable for the ECP approach is developed and applied for optimization problems defined on general three-dimensional design domains.

  • The machine locking system is an important device for the safety of persons using the machine. In this study, a locking system using electromagnetic fields is proposed to decrease the defects and the cost for repairing and maintenance of the existing locking system using structural mechanism. We analyze the electromagnetic locking system and calculate the generated force considering direction by the finite element method. Also, we set up two design domains for the topology optimization; first domain is optimized to reduce the volume and the other is optimized to maximize the generated force keeping the volume, especially. The optimal design is obtained by integration of the two optimized results. An improved design is obtained by the optimal topology and it is confirmed by comparison with the initial locking system.

  • The evaluation of simulation models against ADS-33 quantitative rotorcraft handling qualities metrics has, in the past, been a time consuming effort, involving many individual analyses in both the time and frequency domains. Manual tuning of control system parameters to meet handling qualities and performance specifications has been cumbersome and complicated. Performing rigorous trade-off studies for numerous variations in the control system is too time consuming to be practicable. With the complex interaction of time- and frequency based specifications for the closed- and broken-loop responses, it is difficult to know if the design makes the most effective use of the available control power. The Control Designer's Unified Interface (CONDUIT) software makes possible rapid optimization and trade-offs of design configurations against handling qualities specifications.

간호학생의 장애아 보육실습 내용 분석 (The Content Analysis of Pediatric Nursing Practical Learning in the Children's Rehabilitation Center by Nursing Students)

  • The practical learning experience is the heart of nursing's professional program of study, have been the most widely disscussed and yet the least studied of all nursing education activities. The major goal of practical learning experience is to provide opportunities in realistic work settings that permit the nursing student to develop the knowledge, skill It attitudes of a beginning practitioner. The purpose of this study is to identify the experience of practical learning in the children's rehabilitation center by nursing students, to provide basic information for developing practical learning in pediatric nursing education. The study design was a descriptive study. Data were collected 74 cases of journaling which came from senior nursing students who cared for the handicapped children in P rehabilitation center from 24, August, 1997 to 29, Decmber, 29, 1998. The collected data were analyzed using the content analysis by Kim & Lee(1986), Kim(1987). The results are as follows : The content of practical learning in the children's rehabilitation center were classified with 5 domains. The domains were , , , , and .

재난관련 국내 간호연구 동향 분석 (Trends of Nursing Research on Disasters in Korea)

  • Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted in order to investigate the research trends of past nursing studies related to disasters in Korea, and to identify the direction of future research. Methods: Fifty studies conducted from July 1995 to June 2014 were analyzed according to general characteristics, disaster phase, disaster type, and research theme based on the four areas and 10 domains of the ICN Framework of Disaster Nursing Competencies. Results: The majority of studies were designed using quantitative methods (29). In disaster type, 12 studies explored natural disasters, and 14 explored manmade disasters. Disaster responders were the subject of 31 studies. In relation to research topics, the majority of studies were in the area of preparedness competencies of the ICN Framework (26). The studies were concentrated in the domain of education and preparedness (24). Conclusion: The total number of studies on disasters had increased over the years, while the topics failed to deal with all domains of the ICN Framework. The results indicate that the future direction of nursing research on disasters is to be vitalized through the flexibility of research design, systematic approach based on global perspectives, research on emergency responders and vulnerable people, and research relating to community-based disaster nursing.

손마사지가 항암화학요법을 받는 부인암 환자의 안위에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Hand Massage on Comfort in Women with Gynecologic Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the effect of hand massage on comfort in women with gynecologic cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. Hand massage was provided to the experimental group for 5 min (2.5 min for each side) once on admission day, twice from the second day until the day before discharge, and once in the morning on discharge day. Results: Findings showed no significant differences in pre and post levels of general, physical, psycho-spiritual, social and environmental comfort. However, women's comfort levels in all domains were increased after the chemotherapy in the experimental group. Conclusion: Although there were some increases in women's comfort levels on all domains after the treatment, hand massage was not proved as a statistically useful nursing intervention in comforting women with gynecologic cancer. The results suggest that hand massage could be effective if it is applied longer than it was in this study. The future implications of hand massage in patients with various cancers are discussed.

Structural Studies of Peptide Binding Interaction of HCV IRES Domain IV

  • The hepatitis C virus (HCV) internal ribosome entry site (IRES) is an RNA structure located in the 5'-UTR of the HCV RNA genome. The HCV IRES consists of four domains I, II, III, and IV, where domains II - IV are recognized by 40S ribosomal subunit and the domain III is bound to eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3) for translation initiation. Here, we have characterized the tertiary interaction between an L-/K- rich peptide and the HCV IRES domain IV. To probe the peptide binding interface in RNA, we synthesized $^{13}C$- and $^{15}N$-double labeled RNA and the binding site was identified by using the chemical shift perturbation (CSP) NMR methods. Our results showed that the peptide binds to the upper stem of the IRES domain IV, indicating that the tertiary interaction between the IRES domain IV and the peptide would disrupt the initiation of translation of HCV mRNA by blocking the start codon exposure. This study will provide an insight into the new peptide-based anti-viral drug design targeting HCV IRES RNA.

Synthesis of GBSB-based Neural Associative Memories Using Evolution Program

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable method for searching the optimally performing generalized brain-state-in-a-box (GBSB) neural associative memory using an evolution program (EP) given a set of prototype patterns to be stored as stable equilibrium points. First, we exploit some qualitative guidelines necessary to synthesize the GBSB model. Next, we parameterize the solution space utilizing the limited number of parameters to represent the solution space. Then, we recast the synthesis of GBSB neural associative memories as two constrained optimization problems, which are equivalent to finding a solution to the original synthesis problem. Finally, we employ an evolution program (EP), which enables us to find an optimal set of parameters related to the size of domains of attraction (DOA) for prototype patterns. The validity of this approach is illustrated by a design example and computer simulations.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of sexual health education guided by dramaturgical interaction on condom attitudes and intention to use a condom among undergraduate students. Method: Seventy-one female and 23 male volunteers at a university in D metropolitan city participated in the study with an one group pretest-posttest design. The intervention was implemented for five weeks in October 2003 with a short course including group works to encourage university students' social skills In condom use negotiations and condom purchase by using a dramaturgical interaction model. A confidential questionnaire was administered at baseline and post-intervention, and changes in condom attitudes and intention to use a condom were measured. Result: The self-report of female subjects showed significant positive changes in two out of the five condom attitudes domains, such assailability and effectiveness(p<.001) embarrassment about negotiation and use(p<.05), while male subjects showed no change in each of the condom attitudes domains. No significant difference was found in intention to use a condom after the intervention. Conclusion: Sexual health education planned to encourage social skills in condom use by using the dramaturgical interaction model was found to have positive effects on female university students' condom attitudes. A more rigorously designed trial is needed to develop a comprehensive sexual health promotion programme that targets both cognitive and behavioral changes among sexually active Young adults within community.

간호사의 감정노동과 직무스트레스가 신체화 증상에 미치는 영향에 관한 분석 (Effects of Emotional Labor and Occupational Stress on Somatization in Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of occupational stress, emotional labor, and general characteristics to somatization, and to identify factors affecting somatization in nurses. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive research design was used to study 227 nurses. Nurses completed a 52-item self-questionnaire that included 3 concepts assessing somatization, occupational stress, emotional labor. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: Mean scales for somatization, occupational stress, and emotional labor were $22.96{\pm}7.87$, $78.73{\pm}12.29$, $29.63{\pm}3.97$ respectively. The explained variance for somatization was 35.5%. Among the variables, frequency of emotional display (${\beta}$=.136, p=.042), one of the sub-domains of emotional labor, and role overload (${\beta}$=.178, p=.023), one of the sub-domains of occupational stress and working in the ICU, OR, or ER (${\beta}$=.296, p<.001) and education level of diploma graduation (${\beta}$=.143, p=.028) significantly predicted degree of somatization. Conclusion: Findings of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of somatization and related factors for nurses in Korea.
