  • The steel slit shear wall (SSSW), made by cutting vertical slits in a steel plate, is increasingly used for the seismic protection of building structures. In the domain of thin plate shear walls, the out-of-plane buckling together with the potential fracture developed at slit ends at large lateral deformation may result in degraded shear strength and energy dissipation, which is not desirable in view of seismic design. To address this issue, the present study proposed a new type of SSSW made by intentionally introducing initial out-of-plane folding into the originally flat slitted plate. Quasi-static cyclic tests on three SSSWs with different amplitudes of introduced out-of-plane folding were conducted to study their shear strength, elastic stiffness, energy dissipation capacity and buckling behavior. By introducing proper amplitude of out-of-plane folding into the SSSW fracture at slit ends was eliminated, plumper hysteretic behavior was obtained and there was nearly no strength degradation. A method to estimate the shear strength and elastic stiffness of the new SSSW was also proposed.

  • This paper investigates the optimized parameters of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) for vibration control of high-rise structures including Soil Structure Interaction (SSI). The Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) method is employed for optimization. The TMD Mass, damping coefficient and spring stiffness are assumed as the design variables of the controller; and the objective is set as the reduction of both the maximum displacement and acceleration of the building. The time domain analysis based on Newmark method is employed to obtain the displacement, velocity and acceleration of different stories and TMD in response to 6 types of far field earthquakes. The optimized mass, frequency and damping ratio are then formulated for different soil types; and employed for the design of TMD for the 40 and 15 story buildings and 10 different earthquakes, and well results are achieved. This study leads the researchers to the better understanding and designing of TMDs as passive controllers for the mitigation of earthquake oscillations.

  • This article presents a study of the largest-ever (height = 220 m) cooling tower using the large eddy simulation (LES) method. Information about fluid fields around the tower and 3D aerodynamic time history in full construction process were obtained, and the wind pressure distribution along the entire tower predicted by the developed model was compared with standard curves and measured curves to validate the effectiveness of the simulating method. Based on that, average wind pressure distribution and characteristics of fluid fields in the construction process of ultra-large cooling tower were investigated. The characteristics of fluid fields in full construction process and their working principles were investigated based on wind speeds and vorticities under different construction conditions. Then, time domain characteristics of ultra-large cooling towers in full construction process, including fluctuating wind loads, extreme wind loads, lift and drag coefficients, and relationship of measuring points, were studied and fitting formula of extreme wind load as a function of height was developed based on the nonlinear least square method. Additionally, the frequency domain characteristics of wind loads on the constructing tower, including wind pressure power spectrum at typical measuring points, lift and drag power spectrum, circumferential correlations between typical measuring points, and vertical correlations of lift coefficient and drag coefficient, were analyzed. The results revealed that the random characteristics of fluctuating wind loads, as well as corresponding extreme wind pressure and power spectra curves, varied significantly and in real time with the height of the constructing tower. This study provides references for design of wind loads during construction period of ultra-large cooling towers.

  • Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) is core part of nuclear power plant to provide the forced circulation of reactor coolant for the removal of core heat. Properly monitoring vibration of RCP is a key activity of a successful predictive maintenance and can lead to a decrease in failure, optimization of machine performance, and a reduction of repair and maintenance costs. Here, we developed real-time RCP Vibration Analysis System (VAS) that web based platform using NoSQL DB (Mongo DB) to handle vibration data of RCP. In this paper, we explain how to implement digital signal process of vibration data from time domain to frequency domain using Fast Fourier transform and how to design NoSQL DB structure, how to implement web service using Java spring framework, JavaScript, High-Chart. We have implement various plot according to standard of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and it can show on web browser based on HTML 5. This data analysis platform shows a upgraded method to real-time analyze vibration data and easily uses without specialist. Furthermore to get better precision we have plan apply to additional machine learning technology.

  • In this study, it is describe to an optimization analysis process for the weight reduction of the voltage converter in the electric vehicle charging systems. The optimization design is a technique that finds the optimal material distribution under a given material quantity constraint by combining the design sensitivity with the material properties and the mathematical optimization. Among the topology optimization, a lightweight design is performed by a solid isotropic material with penalization with simple formula and well-convergence. The lightweight design consists of three steps. As a first step, a finite element model for the basic design of the on-board voltage converter was constructed and static analysis was performed on the load. In the second step, the optimum shape is obtained for the lightweight by performing the topology optimization using the solid isotropic material with penalization applying the stiffness coefficient of the isotropic material to the static analysis result. As a final step, impact analysis was performed by applying a half-sinusoidal pulse shape impact load which satisfies the impact test standard of the vehicle-mounted part with respect to the optimum shape. In the topology optimization, the design domain was defined as the mounting bracket area, and the design technology was finally achieved by optimizing the mounting bracket to achieve a weight reduction of 20% over the basic design.

  • When passband ripple α/sub p/ and stopband attenuation α/sub s/ at the w/sub s/ where the stopband begins are specified in filter design, △α/sub s/ usually exceeds the specification by △α/sub s/ due to the necessity that the order n of the filter function be an integer. In this paper, we apply a trade-off method to remove the excess stopband attenuation △α/sub s/ for reducing the value of pole-Q and improving the characteristics of the Chebyshev filter function. We also apply the trade-off method of pole-Q reduction to the modified Chebyshev function, and then the 4 types of function have been analyzed to compare in frequency and time domain characteristics. The trade-off method reduces the pole-Q which influences the filter characteristics to maximum 49.6% without increase of the order n. Thus implies that they have the improved characteristics such as the reduced passband ripple and flatter delay characteristics as compared Chebyshev filter function before trade-off. And the unit step response shows shorter delay time and settling time in time domain performance.

  • In this paper, we proposed a 3 dB coupler using N-section parallel-coupled lines and designed a very compact one based on the analysis results. The coupled line has been analyzed by spectral domain method. After we obtain the s-parameters of N-section parallel-coupled lines by using port reduction method 4-port s-parameters are derived. The 3 dB couplers, which were fabricated, are not necessary to implement high impedance lines and tight coupling gaps as Lange Couplers because loose coupling is used. To realize a minimum section, we used the PCB that has high a dielectric constant and a thickness. The experimental results show that it has wide bandwidth of about 42 %(0.5 dB unbalance) from 3.6 GHz to 5.5 GHz and phase difference within 1 degree. Also, The isolation characteristics about 15 dB at its pass-band are obtained.

  • Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is one of effective methods of robust controller design. In QFT design we can considers the phase information of the perturbed plant so it is less conservative than $H_{\infty}$ and ${\mu}$-synthesis methods and as be shown, it is more transparent than the sensitivity reduction methods mentioned . In this paper we want to overcome the major drawback of QFT method which is lack of an automatic method for loop-shaping step of the method so we focus on the following problem: Given a nominal plant and QFT bounds, synthesize a controller that achieves closed-loop stability and satisfies the QFT boundaries. The usual approach to this problem involves loop-shaping in the frequency domain by manipulating the poles and zeros of the nominal loop transfer function. This process now aided by recently developed computer aided design tools proceeds by trial and error and its success often depends heavily on the experience of the loop-shaper. Thus for the novice and First time QFT user, there is a genuine need for an automatic loop-shaping tool to generate a first-cut solution. Clearly such an automatic process must involve some sort of optimization, and while recent results on convex optimization have found fruitful applications in other areas of control theory we have tried to use LMI theory for automating the loop-shaping step of QFT design.

  • Component-Based Development(CBD) for a system has benefits in terms of improvement of operation and maintenance as well as reduction of development period. But applying the CBD methodology to a system can give rise to difficulties, which are there should be specialists in CBD and domain to apply and there would be a lot of products resulting in the application. To solve the problems, we suggested a suitable methodology in overall process from analysis to implementation after investigating the methodology applicable to small and medium software system by software systems engineering approach. In the application of the suggested methodology to design a ship design process management system, we could confirm the efficiencies of the methodologies.

  • Structural design, in general, is developed through trial and error technique which is guided by standards criteria and based on the intuition and experience of the engineer, a context that leads to structural over-dimensioning, with uneconomic solutions. Aiming to find the optimal design, structural optimization methods have been developed to find a balance between cost, structural safety, and material performance. These methods have become a great opportunity in the steel structural engineering domain since they have as their main purpose is weight minimization, a factor directly correlated to the real cost of the structure. Assuming an objective function of minimum weight with stress and displacement constraints provided by Brazilian standards, the present research proposes the sizing optimization and combined approach of sizing and shape optimization, through a software developed to implement the Simulated Annealing metaheuristic algorithm. Therefore, two steel plane frame layouts, each admitting four typical truss geometries, were proposed in order to expose the difference between the optimal solutions. The assessment of the optimal solutions indicates a notable weight reduction, especially in sizing and shape optimization combination, in which the quantity of design variables is increased along with the search space, improving the efficiency of the optimal solutions achieved.
