In the past, a strategic management of work demands has been increasingly challenged to design-build (DB) firms. Such a management is capable of providing sufficient profitable impact of a project on them. Total project profit is mainly related to actual resources, work completion time, amount of rework, and costs. The degree of recycling work packages in the DB project delivery system is used as a measure of the quality of the performed work. However, there are few models available to evaluate the impact of a demand management strategy on the DB firms and to predict its behavior. We propose a decision-making support model as an aid for assessing the amount of rework and for predicting project profit resulting in a convincible demand management strategy. This model is constructed by using a dynamic feedback approach that can analyze the problems arising in complex managerial systems. For the purpose of illustration, widely acceptable strategies were applied into the model to explore their impacts on the DB firms. The results indicate that the model is helpful for the managers in selecting the most appropriate demand management strategy for successfully achieving their objectives.

This study aims at improving the limitations of current construction processes. Previous solutions to improve construction processes have been focused on the improvement of local processes. This paper proposes a method to improve global effectiveness of construction processes through ascertainment of communication among the process participants. This paper provides two case studies: Deck plate installation processes and Duct installation processes. The case study illustrates a way to improve global effectiveness by incorporating downstream participants such as specialty contractors in upstream construction processes such as design and planning.

Small islands in humid and hot climates have received less attention development due to lack of resources and difficulties for in-situ construction. This paper addresses this problem by presenting a modular system for sustainable construction of a resort hotel in accordance with the international tourism standards, in addition to, minimizing undesirable effects on nature. This has been achieved by review of literature in the scope of off-site construction and identification of the natural geographical features of Herndurabi Island. According to the information acquired, a feasibility study and design practice have been conducted to achieve a reasonable solution to equip Hendurabi Island as a sample with a self-sufficient prefabricate resort hotel. Findings indicate that the volumetric prefabricated modules would be a solution to devising a framework for design and construction in remote regions.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become the new international benchmark for efficiency in design, construction and maintenance of buildings. It is the platform that brings about collaboration between project stakeholders and improvement of project outcomes. With all its potentials, not much of the impact of BIM technologies has been felt in the Nigerian construction industry. This research aimed at assessing the readiness of the Nigerian building design firms to adopt BIM technologies. The research was exploratory in nature. A field survey was conducted with the use of structured questionnaire, self administered to a sample of building design consultancy firms (architectural, structural, M&E, quantity surveying, and multi-disciplinary design firms) within Abuja and Kaduna. The questionnaire sought the perception of the responding firms on the factors affecting BIM adoption in the Nigerian construction industry, and their level of readiness to adopt BIM technologies in their practices based on the four categories of readiness-management, people, process and technology. 42.26% response rate was achieved and used for analysis. ANOVA and DUNCAN post-hoc tests were used to establish the differences between the responses of the groups of firms, while means and standard deviations were obtained to establish the important factors affecting BIM adoption in Nigeria. The survey revealed that all the groups of Nigerian design firms are appreciably ready for the adoption of BIM technologies in their practice, with slight variations in their respective levels of readiness. 'Lack of awareness of BIM technology among professionals' and clients and 'lack of knowledgeable and experienced partners' were identified as the most important barriers of BIM adoption in Nigeria; while the most significant drivers are 'availability of well trained professionals' and 'cooperation and commitment of professional bodies to the adoption'. Education and training of building design professionals and cooperation of all stakeholders in the design and construction supply chain were recommended as part of measures to ensure successful adoption of BIM in the Nigerian construction industry.

A necessity of increasing the energy efficiency of the buildings is rising due to global warming and high energy demands prices. Commissioning is an effective way to increase the energy efficiency of the building and reduce maintenance costs. In this study, a case study was conducted to derive the commissioning process of green building and propose management factors that can be used in domestic commissioning projects. The case was a university renovation project that received a LEED Glod certification and conducted the enhanced commissioning. The commissioning is divided into planning, design, construction, and post-construction phases. In the planning stage, commissioning company selection, commissioning goal setting, tasks and responsibilities for each subject are set. In the design phase, preparations are made for inspection and construction steps to prevent design errors. In the construction phase, problems are solved through periodic on-site inspections. In the post-construction phase, a final report with all the details of the commissioning will be created and future maintenance strategies will be proposed. Based on the findings of this study, it will be a basis for the management factors that can be used in the implementation of domestic commissioning projects.

Improving long-term performance in highway projects is an imperative goal for public administrations. Project delivery and procurement methods might provide an opportunity to align design and construction processes with this goal. Previous studies have explored whether project delivery methods impact the long-term performance of highway projects. However, these studies did not focus specifically on how core elements within the procurement might relate to long-term performance. Thus, this research aims to fill this gap by exploring to what extent and how long-term evaluation criteria are considered in design-build best-value procurement of highway projects. To this end, content analysis was conducted on 100 projects procured between 2009 and 2019 by 19 DOTs across the U.S. The analysis of 365 evaluation criteria found that (1) roughly 11% of them related to long-term performance. (2) The weight given to these criteria in the overall technical proposal was lower than 30%. (3) Sixty-five percent (65%) of long-term evaluation criteria focused on design while 15% related to materials and technology, respectively. The results of this study are a first steppingstone to initiate a deep exploration of the relationship between procurement practices and actual project performance. Currently, with sustainability and life cycle assessments being top concerns in infrastructure projects, this line of research might be of particular interest to DOTs and highway agencies across the U.S. and worldwide.

Utilizing construction knowledge and experiences in design phase can reduce change orders and improve productivity in construction phase. To do so, information must be made available to the design team in time. Current approaches for effective utilization of constructability knowledge, however, only focus on the formalization of constructability knowledge such as a checklist, which lacks the consideration of the appropriate use at the proper point in time. The inadequate use of constructability knowledge can result in unnecessary reworks. To deal with this problem, the design team needs to know what constructability knowledge is required for specific design activities in the design process. This paper presents a constructability implementation model using the dependency structure matrix (DSM) that focuses on information flows between design activities and constructability knowledge. For this objective, design activities in the design process are modeled in a matrix form based on their dependency. Then, constructability knowledge, which needs to be considered in the design stage, is mapped into activities and incorporated into the matrix, creating Constructability-DSM (C-DSM). Next, the partitioning algorithm is applied to C-DSM for optimal information flow. The Partitioned C-DSM is then analyzed based on the relationship between activities. Finally, the optimal utilization of construction knowledge in the design process is determined by identifying what constructability knowledge is required for each design activity, and how and when it is reflected to design for constructability. Thus, this research can help provide robust control actions to reduce unnecessary iterative cycles in design process for efficient constructability implementation.

In Korea construction project case, architectural construction project is curtailed production because information network process within multidisciplinary isn't smooth. Particularly, the construction is not insufficient about performance, cost and material, construction process, etc. in result various question arises because of design error in construction step. And various mistake is made because communication path within multidisciplinary isn't smooth in architectural design and design change process. Therefore The final object of this study is to propose the establishment method of decision support process for the cooperative design in order to provides improved design coordination and optimize the building system.

In this study, constructability of ecologocal stream restoration process was evaluated and improved approaches for habitat were suggested. The study site is Gucheon River in Geoje city where conducted ecologocal restoration work within maintaining its flood control function. Application of ecological design factors and constructability in the process from planning to construction was analyzed and its results are as follows: In the process of planning and designing, it was focused more on the naturality of Gucheon River rather than the human convinience and ecological design factors were applied within the ecological capacity of the site. First, the indexes for constructability evaluation is selected. It was classified into three major categories as construction quality, design quality and construction administration system. Each index has details, so there are twenty sub indexes for contractibility evaluation. Second, the evaluation results shows that the index most in need of improvement was plumbing construction, followed by Stone construction and pavement construction. design concept was evaluated as appropriate in entire categories. Finally it is suggested that it can be improved in both process of design to enhance the technology and process of construction to enhance the quality management. The constructability of ecological stream needs adaptive management and it must be discussed with its designing which is at the stage before construction. Also it needs discussion with its designer constantly and feed-back process.

"The world is flat" as the popular author Thomas L. Friedman declares in his best belling book about the progress of business globalization in the $21^{st}$ century [3]. Construction projects and related businesses have been global since the 1800's, but it has never seen such rapid transformation in both scope and depth as in the past decade. Construction projects today often bring together international design talents, construction management firms, local and international labor forces, and global suppliers. On a visit to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf, a person will experience the complexity of globalization of modern construction projects- with Arab owners, European engineering and design companies, American construction management teams, Korean general contractors, Jordanian subcontractors, and labor forces from Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, and Sri Lanka. A count of material suppliers reveals over 60 countries involved, covering all continents. Indeed construction projects are getting more and more complex and competitive, as is the project execution. The trend toward globalization poses both challenges and opportunities to construction and engineering companies competing on a global scale. While global competition may be a threat to many companies, there are, however, many opportunities for synergistic collaborations that can create win-win scenarios for construction business, research, and education. This paper presents some of the opportunities between the U.S. and Asia in business integration, research collaboration on technologies, and educational development, which may mutually benefit countries on either side of the Pacific.
