  • Purpose: To make a comparative study of correlation between biometry data of size in eyeball and refractive error. Methods: The subjects were 68 normal university students (male 36, female 32) and the average age was 22.85${\pm}$3.12. We measured the students' eyesight by A-scan ultrasound and refractor. The results were examined it's statistical significance by SPSS 12.0 version. Results: The mean of axial length was 24.31${\pm}$1.24 mm, chamber depth was 3.48${\pm}$0.28 mm, lens thickness was 3.56${\pm}$0.26 mm and corneal thickness was 0.55${\pm}$0.03 mm. Male's Axial length and chamber depth were larger than female's. As reflective error decreases the thickness of lens become thicker. The measurement data between right eye and left eye didn't had difference and there was no correlation with result of T-test. There were statistically significant correlation with length and chamber depth, axial length and corneal thickness, chamber depth and corneal thickness, and refractive error and lens thickness (p<0.01). Refractive error and axial length were minus linear regression (r=-0.56). Conclusions: Eye's refractive error was changed by axial length, chamber depth and lens thickness but it wasn't related with sex and whether it is a right eye or a left eye.

  • A popular alternative to extend the life of aged pavement is asphalt overlay. However, it has a very serious and inherent shortcoming in deterring a reflection crack. Although joint-rehabilitation and stress-relief techniques have been applied to deter such reflection cracks in aged pavement, the techniques had a limited success only in slowing down the progress of a reflection crack. Rubblization technique rubblizes the concrete pavement slab in situ and uses the rubblized slab as the base material. Then, pavement overlay is applied to finish off the rehabilitation of aged pavement. This rubblization technique has the advantage of solving the problem of reflection cracking completely. When rubblization technique is applied, the upper layer of aged concrete pavement is rubblized between 40mm-70mm in depth. However, the lower layer is typically rubblized more than 100mm in depth. Nevertheless, it is difficult to turn the entire concrete pavement of more than 30cm in depth into rubblized aggregate of appropriate size. Thus, a simulation experiment was carried out to find the appropriate rubblized depth, which avoids the reflection cracking and still maintains the function of subbase, by varying the depth of rubblized depth in loom increments of 0cm, 10cm, and 20cm. The result indicated the optimum rubblized depth was 10cm (Lee, 2006). Additionally, a small rubblizinge equipment was developed in order to derive the rubblization technique appropriate for thick concrete pavement. This equipment was tested out on an experimental pavement, which was constructed with the same standard and specification for the road in actual use, by varying its rubblizing head shape and energy as well as the effective area of rubblization. This experiment led to a prototype equipment for rubblization of thick concrete pavement. The prototype was put into use on a highway, undergoing a test construction and monitoring afterwards. This entire process was necessary for the validation of the proposed rubblization technique.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical results of guided tissue regeneration(GTR) using a resorbable barrier manufactured from an copolymer of polylactic acid (PLA) and polylaetic-glycolic acid(PLGA) with those of nonresorbable ePTFE barrier. Thirty two patients(25 to 59 years old) with one radiographically evident intrabony lesion of probing depth ${\geq}$6mm participated in a 6-month controlled clinical trial. The subjects were randomly divided into three independent groups. The first group(n=8) received a ePTFE barrier. The second group (n=12) received a resorbable PLA/PLGA barrier. The third group (n=12) received a resorbable PLA/PLGA barrier combined with an alloplastic bone graft. Plaque index (PI), gingival index(GI), probing depth(PD), gingival recession, clinical attachment level(CAL), and tooth mobility were recorded prior to surgery and at 3, 6 months postsurgery, Statistical tests used to analyze these data included independent t-test, paired t-test, one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows : 1. Probing depth was significantly reduced in all groups at 3, 6 months postsurgery and there were not significant differences between groups. 2. Clinical attachment level was significantly increased in all groups at 3, 6 months postsurgery and there were not significant differences between groups. 3. There were not significant differences in probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival recession, tooth mobility between second group (PLA/PLGA barrier) and third group (PLA/PLGA barrier combined with alloplastic bone graft) 4. Tooth mobility was not significantly increased in all groups at 3, 6 months postsurgery and there were not significant differences between groups. In conclusion, PLA/PLGA resorbable barrier has similar clinical potential to eP'IFE barrier in GTR procedure of intrabony pockets under the present protocol.

  • The nuclear power plants have been safely operated by plugging the steam generator tubes which have the crack indications. Tube rupture events can occur if analysts fail to detect crack indications during in-service inspection. There are various types of crack indication in steam generator tubes and they have been detected by the eddy current test. The integrity assessment should be performed using the crack-sizing results from eddy current data when the crack indication is detected. However, it is not easy to evaluate the crack-depth precisely and consistently due to the complexity of the methods. The current crack-sizing methods were reviewed in this paper and the suitable ones were selected through the laboratory tests. The retired steam generators of Kori Unit 1 were used for this study. The round robin tests by the domestic qualified analysts were carried out and the statistical models were introduced to establish the appropriate depth-sizing techniques. It is expected that the proposed techniques in this study can be utilized in the Steam Generator Management Program.

  • This study present the stressdistribution of circular column-box beam connection in steel piers. Experiments were carried out for hollow and concrete filled connections, depending on the joint angle. To determine vertical and shear stress distribution, this study examined the equivalent web depth dc' that is mainly used in existing design equation. Lidewise, as additional equivalent web depth was introduced. Stress values that were calculated using equivalent wev depth were also compared with the test stress value. Results showed that stresses of hollow and filled connections have great differences. However, dc' has a limitation for some joint angles. Likewise, stress of filled connection was less than that of the hollow connection. The test value of filled connection was also compared with design equations that were introduced from the hollow connection.

  • Subminiature joining bolts are required for the electronic parts of gadgets such as mobile phones and watch phones. During the miniaturization of bolt heads, it is difficult to obtain sufficient joining force owing to the risk of shear fracture of the bolt head or severe plastic deformation on the bit region. In this study, the maximum joining torque for the bit depth was predicted using finite element analysis. A shear fracture test was conducted on a wire used in bolt forming. The results of this test were subjected to finite element analysis and a fracture criterion was obtained by comparing the experimental and analysis results. The shear fracture of the bolt head during joining was predicted based on the obtained criterion. Furthermore, the maximum joining torque was predicted for various bit depths. Fracture on the boundary between the bolt head and thread was found to occur in lower joining torque as bit depth increases.

  • This study aims to investigate effects of the length of the buoy and sand bag line on the loss of webfoot octopus pot. A numerical modeling and simulation was carried out to analyze the process that the pot gear affected by wave using the mass spring model. Through the simulation, tensions of sand bag line under various condition were investigated by length of buoy and sand bag line. The drag force and coefficient k of an artificial shell used in the webfoot octopus pot was obtained from an experiment in a circular water channel, and the coefficient k was applied to the simulation. To verify the accuracy of the simulation model, a simple test was conducted into measuring a rope tension of a hanging shell under flow. Then, the test result was compared with the simulation. The lengths of the buoy line in the simulation were 1.12, 1.41, 1.80, 2.23, 2.69, and 3.17 times of water depth. The lengths of sand bag line were 10, 20, 30, and 40 meters, and conditions of water depth were 8, 15, 22 meters. 4 meter height and 8 second period of wave were applied to all simulations. As a results, the tension of the sand bag line was decreased as the buoy and sand bag line were increased. The minimum tension of the sand bag line was appeared in conditions that the length of the buoy line is twice of water depth and the sand bag line length is over 40 meters (except in case of depth 8 meters.).

  • A hardware implementation of phase calculator for extracting 3D depth image from TOF(Time-Of-Flight) sensor is described. The designed phase calculator adopts redundant binary number systems and a pipelined architecture to improve throughput and speed. It performs arctangent operation using vectoring mode of DCORDIC(Differential COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer) algorithm. Fixed-point MATLAB simulations are carried out to determine the optimal bit-widths and number of iteration. The phase calculator has ben verified by FPGA-in-the-loop verification using MATLAB/Simulink. A test chip has been fabricated using a TSMC $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and test results show that the chip functions correctly. It has 82,000 gates and the estimated throughput is 400 MS/s at 400Mhz@1.8V.

  • Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load such as typhoon wind load. In this study, the location, numbers and depths of acnchor blocks as well as depth of poles were varied to find horizontal displacement of poles through pull-out tests. The 10 types of tests were performed, and lateral displacements showed differences depending on location, numbers and depth of poles. The bending is generated in the upper part at the initial load, but it moved to central part as load increased. The maximum horizontal displacement decreased to 1/1.6 at -0.5[m] depth of anchor block and 1.3[m] additional laying depth of poles into ground. Two anchor blocks of poles are better than one acnchor block system, but one anchor block system is recommended because difference of displacement is not too large, and constructibilty is bad due to increase of excavation for anchor blocks.
