This paper presents Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based controller for depth control of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs). Through sector nonlinearity methodology, The nonlinear AUV is represented by T-S fuzzy model. By using the Lyapunov function, the design condition of controller is derived to guarantee the performance of depth control in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). An example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

The hydrodynamic forces acting on a forced oscillating 2-dimensional cylinder on a free surface of a fluid of a finite depth are calculated by distributing singularities on the immersed body surface. And the Haskind-Newman relation in a fluid of a finite depth is derived. The wave exciting force of the cylinder to an oscillation is also calculated by using the above relation. The method is applied to a circular cylinder swaying in a water of finite depth, and then, to a rectangular cylinder heaving, swaying, and rolling. The results of above cases give a good agreement with those by earlier investigators such as Bai, Keil, and Yeung. Also, this method is applied to a Lewis form cylinder with a half beam-to-draft ratio of 1.0 and a sectional area coefficient of 0.941, and to a bulbous section cylinder which is hard to represent by a mapping function. The results reveal that the hydrodynamic forces in heave increase as the depth of a water decrease, but in sway or roll, the tendency of the hydrodynamic forces is difficult to say in a few words. The exciting force to heave for a bulbous section cylinder becomes zero at two frequencies. The added mass moment of inertia for roll is seemed to mainly depend on the sectional shape than the water depth.
The recent Multiple Lapse Time Window (MLTW) analysis of Korean Peninsula event showed that the focal depth was far greater influence factor than the velocity structure of the model, applying the analysis of the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. Thus, using the events with focal depth of about 10 km, this study considered 330 paths connecting 41 events and 71 stations, and re-examined uniform and depth-dependent velocity models previously studied. As a result, the residual of misfit function greatly decrease from analytic model to DSMC model, reflecting variation of the focal depth from 0 to 10 km. On the other hand, the difference of residuals for each velocity model were relatively small.
In this paper, we propose a new method to convert a low-resolution depth map into its high-resolution one called distance transform-based bilateral upsampling. Since the proposed method controls the spatial domain weighting function based on distance transform values of the depth map, it increases the input depth map resolution while preserving edge sharpness. The proposed method is composed of three main steps: distance transform, spatial weighting control, and image interpolation. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the conventional bilateral upsampling in terms of the quality of output depth maps.
An investigation has been carried out for the propagation of torsional surface waves in an inhomogeneous prestressed layer over an inhomogeneous half space when the upper boundary plane is assumed to be rigid. The inhomogeneity in density, initial stress (tensile and compressional) and rigidity are taken as an arbitrary function of depth, where as for the elastic half space, the inhomogeneity in density and rigidity is hyperbolic function of depth. In the absence of heterogeneities of medium, the results obtained are in agreement with the same results obtained by other relevant researchers. Numerically, it is observed that the velocity of torsional wave changes remarkably with the presence of inhomogeneity parameter of the layer. Curves are compared with the corresponding curve of standard classical elastic case. The results may be useful to understand the nature of seismic wave propagation in geophysical applications.

The transmission and reflection coefficiencies of a BBDB-type floating breakwater in water of finite depth are studied taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the air chamber. The wave potential is calculated by a hybrid integral equation consisting of a Green integral equations associated with the Rankiue Green function inside the BBDB and the Kelvin Green function outside. The transmission and reflection coefficients of the breakwater are obtained directly from the potential solution in the outer region.
Field measurements of directional waves were carried out during the summer of 2002 at two coastal sites in water of finite depth. A couple of general purpose instruments were used employing acoustic Doppler technology. The aim of the study was to investigate the spatial behavior of the directional movement of waves as they come ashore. In total,74 tests were carried out during which sea states of low to moderate intensity were recorded. A great number of these runs displayed bimodal characteristics of the spreading function at high frequencies. It was found that in general, the frequency-integrated directional width tends to broaden as the water shoals and when refraction effects are negligible. This is attributed to wave-wave interactions that become pronounced in shallow water. The same directional width showed, also, a tendency to increase with increasing peak frequency of the sea state spectrum. The behavior of the kurtosis of the spreading function was also examined. It was found that for higher frequencies this index tends to increase in wave spectra above a certain sea severity threshold.
In this paper, a unifying framework to evaluate the depth resolution of axially distributed image sensing (ADS) systems under fixed resource constraints is proposed. The proposed framework enables one to evaluate the system performance as a function of system parameters such as the number of cameras, the number of pixels, pixel size, and so on. The Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to evaluate ADS system performance as a function of system parameters. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on quantitative analysis of ADS systems under fixed resource constraints.
In this study, we applied the teleseismic receiver function technique to determine the crustal thicknesses and ratios for 31 broadband stations of the Korean Peninsula and map out the lateral variation of Moho depth in the Peninsula. The estimated depths to Moho range from 26 to 35 km except for an island station ULL (17 km). The Moho is turned out to be deeper in the south-western part of the Peninsula and western Gyeongsang basin, and shallower in the off-shore region close to East Sea (Sea of Japan). The ratio varies from 1.69 to 1.89 with the average of 1.77, which is close to global average (1.78) in the crust.

Three dimensional linear transient wave propagation over a constant depth is presented using Green's function method. Present solution is proved to be a more general solution from which the existing solutions are obtained by using the appropriate assumptions. The effect of dispersion on wave height attenuation is shown and discussed on the numerical results of the solution.
