  • The purpose of this study is to analyze combustion patterns by filling a specific container with a flammable liquid and performing combustion tests in a divided space. The container used for the test is made of plastic, 20 mm in depth and 150 mm in width. After the liquid was ignited, its combustion process was photographed using a digital camera and video camera. It was found that in the case of benzene, the flame reached its peak at the fastest speed about 60 s while in the case of alcohol, the flame reached its peak at the lowest speed about 360 s, which is approximately six times slower than the benzene. In most cases, when the flame reached its peak, smoke generated was dark as the plastic container and flammable liquid were combusted simultaneously. After completion of the combustion, it was possible to sample oil vapor from all flammable liquids excluding soybean oil as a result of the examination of oil vapor using a crime investigation tube. That is, it can be seen that there is significant difference in flame propagation speed, pattern, etc., depending on the combustible substances.

  • A smart leveling equipment was developed in this study by improving present leveling equipment. Both hardware and software of the equipment was developed and several accuracy tests of bench mark were conducted using various survey equipments. National control point (UO992-A), control points (15-00-06-24)-B and (15-00-06-23)-C were used for the accuracy test. As a result, the stable results in the range of errors were obtained in the cases of auto-level and digital level. Approximately 24mm error in the section of A-B and 26mm of B-C section was occurred in Smart Level equipment. This is due to the lack of technology completion and errors via relatively many numbers of installation tests. 46mm error of RMSE of smart level survey was occurred through the difference of section test. A small error was detected in short range but errors were accumulated far from the bench mark. It's concluded that an in-depth study emphasizing accuracy improvement can be practically applied to the various areas of industry.

  • Sinkhole subsidence occurs over abandoned mine workings and can be detrimental to human lives, damage to properties and other surface structures. In this study, simulation of sinkhole development process is performed using special finite element procedure. Especially, creation of mine voids due to roof falls and generation of goaf from broken rocks are simulated using active-passive-active finite elements. An active or solid element can be made passive or void once the tensile failure criterion is satisfied in the specified sinkhole formation zone. Upon completion of sinkhole development process, these passive elements in again be made active to simulate goal region. Several finite element models are analyzed to evaluate the relationships between sinkhole formation with width of gallery. depth of mine, roof condition and bulking factor of roof rocks. This study demonstrates that the concept of passive elements in numerical analysis can be used effectively for analyzing sinkhole formation or roof fall phenomenon in general.

  • Recently, the frequency and intensity of drought have been increasing due to the sudden abnormal climate in Korea. The occurrence of agricultural drought has been steadily increasing from 5 times in the 1980s to 2000s in 20 years, 6 times in the 10 years from 2000 to 2010, and 4 times in the recent period from 2011 to 2015. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of water shortage caused by drought by improving the function of agricultural reservoir. The target area analyzed the data such as "Comprehensive Information System for Rural Water" operated by Korea Rural Community Corporation. As a result, we selected the target area as Wanju - gun, Jeollabuk - do in consideration of the rate of water storage compared with the normal 25 years, the completion year of the facility, the area of coverage per reservoir site and the low capacity. As a result of evaluating the improvement effect of agricultural facilities, it was analyzed that the irrigation area increased by about 25.7% when the water level was increased by 1m and the irrigation area increased by about 51.3% when the water level was increased by 2m. The results of the drought impact assessment after improving the function of the agricultural facilities were analyzed that it was effective to improve the function after more than 4m depth.

  • Singapore government is strongly promoting the development and utilization of underground space in national level due to the nature of the city state which lacks the land. As well as conventional underground utilization in shallow depth such as metro and underground roads, large rock cavern utilization has been started after the successful completion of the underground ammunition depot in the rock, and Jurong Rock Cavern, the second large underground cavern project has just been completed. In this paper, after evaluating the conditions of the underground development in rock mass through the analysis of the geology of Singapore, the history and current status of underground development are examined. Several creative development plans from Singapore government such as underground reservoirs, underground automation logistics systems and underground warehouses storage etc. are introduced with technical issues. This paper also discusses the problems and issues related to the development of large underground space in rock mass in Singapore. It is expected that such active development of underground space in Singapore can give many opportunities and also challenges for rock engineering and industry in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the pattern drafting method which would be suitable to their physical characteristics for the fatty body of 40∼55 aged Korean women who are more than 1.5 Rohrer's Index and 90㎝ bust girth. The study was composed as follows; 1. Body measurement and statistical analysis: One hundred and thirty women were measured on 29 items. Thirty-four items including 29 measured items and 5 calcutated items were analyzed statistically. 1) Mean, standard deviation, variance, maximum, minimum, range were computed. 2) Correlation coefficients between each items were computed. 2. Development of new bodice pattern drafting method: Measurement items necessary to draft new bodice pattern were bust girth, center back waist length, shoulder width, back width, chest and neck base girth. The new pattern was examined through three wearing tests for completion. 3. Evaluation of the new pattern drafting method: The new pattern was objectively evaluated by the sensory test. The sensory evaluation was applied to evaluate the new pattern for the fatty body women by comparint it with the conventional patterns. The results of sensory tests of the new pattern are as follows: 1) The composite reliability coefficient is 0.7698, and the reliability of sensory test shows high. 2) According to a statistical analysis of the result of the 23 items on the questionaire, all the items showed significant differences(α 0.01) between the two, with the new pattern having higher scores. The new pattern is better conventional pattern as the average mark of the former is 3.901 but that of latter is 2.926. The new pattern drafting method proved to be superior to the conventional one especially in the fitness at the center front neck point, shoulder point, side line, armscye depth, position of bust point, chest width line, under arm dart and the shoulder line.

  • This paper is intended on providing solutions for overcoming constraints to the transmission of the Important Intangible Cultural Properties related to dance successors. For accommodating this approach, six career dancers, from the Dance Society of the Important Intangible Cultural Properties, were invited as the research participants for this study. The In-Depth Interviews and the classification analysis are used as a way of structuring and understanding my observations about these tasks. These interviews have also been verified by an expert group. In conclusion, this study identifies numerous obstacles which can restrict the transmission of the Important Intangible Cultural Properties are as follows; first, the dance successors are constrained by personal reasons such as physical strength and mutual understanding at home; second, the dance successors are affected by the structural constraint of programs such as required time for the completion of training, efficiency of the training program and the educational environment; third, the dance successors are constrained by personal relations such as the relationship between themselves, or between the dance successors and holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties. Suggested solutions for overcoming the constraints to training programs are; building small sized training centers throughout the country; making training time realistic for individuals; and making programs to train the dancers as well as making it sociable.

  • Postweaning performance data were obtained on 401 group fed purebred Angus calves from 24 selected sires (12 high and 12 low feed conversion sires) from 1983 through 1986 at the Northwestern Branch of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. The objective of this study was to determine the interrelationships between body measurements and 140-d feed conversion (feed/gain) adjusted for maintenance (ADJFC), 140-d feed conversion unadjusted for maintenance (UNADFC) and feed conversion measured until progeny reached 8.89 mm of backfat (FC). Variables measured at the completion of the 140-d postweaning period included hip peight (HH), chest depth (CD), chest width (CW), head width (HDW), head length (HDL), heart girth (HG), muzzle circumference (MC), backfat thickness (BF), length between hooks aod pins (HOPIN) and length between shoulder and hooks (SHHO). Measurements were taken from progeny born from 1983 through 1986 for HH and BF, while others, except chest measurements (CD and CW), which were available only in 1985, were taken from progeny born in 1985 and 1986. Negative phenotypic correlations were found for UNADFC, ADJFC and FC. respectively, with HG (-0.76, -0.65 and -0.85), HOPIN (-0.05, -0.28 and -0.09), HDL (-0.63, -0.66 and -0.57), MC (-0.12, -0.35 and - 0.25), HH (-0.38, -0.29 and -0.001), BF(-0.29, -0.31 and -0.12) and CW (-0.03, -0.35 and -0.58). In general, fatter animals with larger HG, longer HDL and greater MC had better feed conversion.

  • This study was performed to explore the institutional treatment system by analyzing the pattern of musical actor's projection and aftereffect subsequent to the completion of performance. In-depth interviews were conducted with 22 top-class musical actors and actresses of the Republic of Korea. The result of the survey indicated that most actors and actresses suffer from projection and it's aftereffect such as depression for more than one month after performance, and that they tend to rely on self-healing based on self-diagnosis rather than seeking for professional counselling. The symptoms of projection were shown more strongly when the actors or actresses were taking on the role of main character, or acting as a negative or realistic character, or when expressing strong and extreme emotions. In this era of Korean culture, the result of this study implies that our country have to establish the actor's mental caring-related new law and private care centers supported enough funds to encourage the actors to receive more effective actor-friendly treatment service before and after the performance.
