A study of the non-linear optical properties of nanocrystal-Si embedded in SiO2 has been performed by using the z-scan method in the nanosecond and femtosecond ranges. Substoichiometric SiOx films were grown by plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition(PECVD) on silica substrates for Si excesses up to 24 at/%. An annealing at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour was performed in order to precipitate nanocrystal-Si, as shown by EFTEM images. Z-scan results have shown that, by using 5-ns pulses, the non-linear process is ruled by thermal effects and only a negative contribution can be observed in the non-linear refractive index, with typical values around $-10-10cm^2/W$. On the other hand, femtosecond excitation has revealed a pure electronic contribution to the nonlinear refractive index, obtaining values in the order of 10-12 cm2/W. Simulations of heat propagation have shown that the onset of the temperature rise is delayed more than half pulse-width respect to the starting edge of the excitation. A maximum temperature increase of ${\Delta}T=123.1^{\circ}C$ has been found after 3.5ns of the laser pulse maximum. In order to minimize the thermal contribution to the z-scan transmittance and extract the electronic part, the sample response has been analyzed during the first few nanoseconds. By this method we found a reduction of 20% in the thermal effects. So that, shorter pulses have to be used obtain just pure electronic nonlinearities.

Graphene, hexagonal network of carbon atoms forming a one-atom thick planar sheet, has been emerged as a fascinating material for future nanoelectronics. Huge attention has been captured by its extraordinary electronic properties, such as bipolar conductance, half integer quantum Hall effect at room temperature, ballistic transport over ${\sim}0.4{\mu}m$ length and extremely high carrier mobility at room temperature. Several approaches have been developed to produce graphene, such as micromechanical cleavage of highly ordered pyrolytic graphite using adhesive tape, chemical reduction of exfoliated graphite oxide, epitaxial growth of graphene on SiC and single crystalline metal substrate, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis. In particular, direct synthesis of graphene using metal catalytic substrate in CVD process provides a new way to large-scale production of graphene film for realization of graphene-based electronics. In this method, metal catalytic substrates including Ni and Cu have been used for CVD synthesis of graphene. There are two proposed mechanism of graphene synthesis: carbon diffusion and precipitation for graphene synthesized on Ni, and surface adsorption for graphene synthesized on Cu, namely, self-limiting growth mechanism, which can be divided by difference of carbon solubility of the metals. Here we present that large area, uniform, and layer controllable graphene synthesized on Cu catalytic substrate is achieved by acetylene-assisted CVD. The number of graphene layer can be simply controlled by adjusting acetylene injection time, verified by Raman spectroscopy. Structural features and full details of mechanism for the growth of layer controllable graphene on Cu were systematically explored by transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and secondary ion mass spectroscopy.

Recently, graphene and graphene-based materials such as graphene oxide (GO) or reduced graphene oxide (R-GO) draws a great attention for electronic devices due to their structures of one atomic layer of carbon hexagon that have excellent mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical properties and very high specific surface area that can be high potential for chemical functionalization. R-GO is a promising candidate because it can be prepared with low-cost from solution process by chemical oxidation and exfoliation using strong acids and oxidants to produce graphene oxide (GO) and its subsequent reduction. R-GO has been used as semiconductor or conductor materials as well as sensing layer for bio-molecules or ions. In this work, reduced graphene oxide field-effect transistor (R-GO FET) has been fabricated with ITO extended gate structure that has sensing area on ITO extended gate part. R-GO FET device was encapsulated by tetratetracontane (TTC) layer using thermal evaporation. A thermal annealing process was carried out at $140^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours in the same thermal vacuum chamber to remove defects in R-GO film before deposition of TTC at $50^{\circ}C$ with thickness of 200 nm. As a result of this process, R-GO FET device has a very high stability and durability for months to serve as a transducer for sensing applications.

As an environment-friendly alternative energy resource, ethanol may be used to obtain hydrogen, a clean energy source. Thus, studies on catalytic reactions involving ethanol have been studied to understand the underlying principles in the reaction mechanism using various oxide-supported catalysts. Among them, Au-based catalysts have shown a superior activity in producing hydrogen gas. In the present study, Au/$TiO_2$ catalysts were prepared by deposition-precipitation method to understand their catalytic activities toward ethanol and acetaldehyde with increasing gold loading, especially at the very low Au loading regime. A commercially available $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25) was employed and the Au loading was varied to 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 wt% respectively. The catalysts showed characteristic x-ray diffraction (XRD) features at $2{\theta}=78.5^{\circ}$ that could be assigned to the presence of gold nanoparticles. Its reactivity measurements were performed under a constant flow of ethanol and acetaldehyde at a flow rate of ${\sim}0.6{\mu}mol/sec$ and the substrate temperature was slowly raised at a rate of 0.2 K/sec. We observed that the overall reactivity of the catalysts increased with increasing Au loading along with selectivity favoring dehydrogenation to product hydrogen gas. In addition, we disclosed various reaction channels involving competitive reaction paths such as dehydrogenation, dehydration, and condensation. In addition, subsequent reactions of acetaldehyde obtained from dehydrogenation of ethanol, were found to occur and produce butene, crotonaldehyde, furan, and benzene. Based on the results, we proposed overall reaction pathways of such reaction channels.

Thin films of buckminsterfullerene($C_{60}$) formed by solution drop casting on Pt foil electrode surfaces were studied by cyclic voltammetry(CV) in acetonitrile(MeCN) containing quaternary ammonium or alkali-metal salts as supporting electrolyte. The electrochemical behaviors of $C_{60}$ films are found to be strongly dependent on the nature of the supporting electrolytes, especially with tetrabutyl ammonium perchlorate (TBAP, $NBu_4ClO_4$), and tetrabutyl ammonium tetrafluoroborate ($TBABF_4$, $NBu_4BF_4$). Reasonably stable films are formed into which electrons can be injected. The interaction of $C_{60}$ film with the quaternary ammonium cation may produce the fulleride salts $(TBA^+)(C{_{60}}^-)$ and $(TBA^+)_2(C{_{60}}^{2-})$. The bulk electroreduction with a controlled potential to generate the soluble $C{_{60}}^{3-}$ anions(dark red-brown color) is followed by electrooxidative deposition to produce a neutral $C_{60}$ film on the surface. The peak currents($I_{pc}$ and $I_{pa}$) of these thin film were dramatically decreased with repetitive potential scanning. These results could be explained by the adsorption-desorption phenomena and ion pairing interaction of reduced species($C{_{60}}^-$, and $C{_{60}}^{2-}$) onto the electrode surface. The peak current changes and peak potential shifts of the thin $C_{60}$ film in cyclic voltammograms formed from solution were observed by varying scan rates.
We suggest new emitter formation method using solid-phase epitaxy (SPE); solid-phase epitaxy emitter (SEE). This method expect simplification and cost reduction of process compared with furnace process (POCl3 or BBr3). The solid-phase epitaxy emitter (SEE) deposited a-Si:H layer by radio-frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (RF-PECVD) on substrate (c-Si), then thin layer growth solid-phase epitaxy (SPE) using rapid thermal process (RTP). This is possible in various emitter profile formation through dopant gas ($PH_3$) control at deposited a-Si:H layer. We fabricated solar cell to apply solid-phase epitaxy emitter (SEE). Its performance have an effect on crystallinity of phase transition layer (a-Si to c-Si). We confirmed crystallinity of this with a-Si:H layer thickness and annealing temperature by using raman spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry and transmission electron microscope. The crystallinity is excellent as the thickness of a-Si layer is thin (~50 nm) and annealing temperature is high (<$900^{\circ}C$). We fabricated a 16.7% solid-phase epitaxy emitter (SEE) cell. We anticipate its performance improvement applying thin tunnel oxide (<2nm).
Glucose oxidase ($GOD_{ox}$) immobilized biosensor was fabricated by two methods. In one of the methods, gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation were loaded into the poly(maleic anhydride)-grafted multi-walled carbon nanotube, PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode via physical entrapment. In the other method, the Au-NPs were prepared by electrochemical reduction of Au ions on the surface of PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode and then GODox was immobilized into the Au-NPs. The $GOD_{ox}$ immobilized biosensors were tested for electrocatalytic activities to sense glucose. The sensing range of the biosensor based on the Au-NPs physically modified PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode was from $30\;{\mu}M$ to $100\;{\mu}M$ for the glucose concentration, and the detection limit was $15\;{\mu}M$. Interferences of ascorbic acid and uric acid were below 7.6%. The physically Au deposited PMAn-g-MWCNT paste electrodes appear to be good sensor in detecting glucose.

A 5.0-inch transmissive type plastic TFT arrays were successfully fabricated on a plastic substrate at the resolution of $400{\times}3{\times}300$ lines (100ppi). All of the TFT processes were carried out below $150^{\circ}C$ on PES plastic films. After thin film deposition using PECVD, thin film failures such as film delamination and cracking often occurred. For successful growth of thin films (about 1um) without their failures, it is necessary to solve the critical problem related to the internal compressive stress (some GPa) leading to delamination at a threshold thickness value of the films. The Griffith's theory explains the failure process by looking at the excess of elastic energy inside the film, which overcomes the cohesive energy between film and substrate. To increase the above mentioned threshold thickness value there are two possibilities: (i) the improvement of the interface adhesion (for example, through surface micro-roughening and/or surface activation), and (ii) the reduction of the internal stress. In this work, reducing a-Si layer film thickness and optimizing a barrier SiNx layer have produced stable CVD films at 150oC, over PES substrates
In this experiments, tin oxide thin film anode for microbattery was deposited by using RF magnetron sputtering. The RF power and operating pressure during deposition were fixed at $2.5W/cm^2$ and 10mTorr respectively. The partial pressure of oxygen was varied from $0\%\;to\;100\%$ to control oxygen content and metal Sn chips were used further reducing of oxygen content. According to reduction in the oxygen content formation of the irreversible $Li_2O$ was reduced a thin film anode of $SnO_x$ of high capacity was fabricated. The optimum $SnO_x$, thin film was $SnO_{1.43}$ which exhibited a reversible capacity of $ 500{\mu}Ah/cm^2{\mu}m$ and exhibited good reversibility.
