Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the influencing factors on oral health related self-efficacy and social support in high school students. Methods: The subjects were 750 high school students in Jeonbuk by convenience sampling. A self-reported questionnaire was completed from April 3 to June 4, 2013. Except incomplete answers, 589 data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program for t-test, ANOVA, post hoc Scheffe test, and multiple regression analysis. The questionnaire consisted 6 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 8 questions of oral health related self-efficacy, and 8 questions of oral health related social support. The instrument for self-efficacy was developed by Sherer and Maddux and measured by Likert 4 scale. Interpersonal Support Evaluation List(ISEL) was developed by Cohen and Hoberman and revised by Suh as oral health related social support in high school students, and measured by Liker 4 scale. Cronbach's alpha in self-efficacy was 0.768 and that in social support was 0.772. Results: The good oral health behavior in the high school students was closely related ro self-efficacy and social support. Higher self-efficacy and social support could make the students practice good oral behavior. Conclusions: Higher self-efficacy and social support can influence on the good oral health behavior in high school students. So it is very important to provide the continuous oral health education that can enhance self-efficacy and health promotion.
The objective of this study is to suggest the utilization of educated dental hygienist as the solution to the problem of supply and demand in dental clinics that has been brought up recently. Through document research and National Health Personnel Licensing Examination Board homepage, we estimated the number of dental hygienist and the condition of employment as well as gotten a grasp of the current activities carried out by dental hygienists. Furthermore, through discussion of researchers, suggested reform bills to guarantee and extend the work of dental hygienists as well as to train dental assistant. The findings were as follows: As the result of the estimation of dental hygienist, in the year 2009, two dental hygienists structure will be formed in each dental clinic. Currently the practice ratio of non-law activities of dental hygienists is high and in order to increase the practical use of dental hygienists, there is a need to reform bills that guarantee and extend the work of dental hygienists. In order to train new labors, there is a need for cautious consideration to distinguish the activities of existing trained labors, reforming of bills, and considering from various other sectors. From present point of view, solving the problem of existing trained dental hygienists, researching for the plan of utilizing dental hygienists and carrying it into practice must be the priority.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the duties of dental coordinators using the DACUM technique and to develop a practical training course for dental coordinators based on the results. Methods: The curricula for clinic coordinators across 20 educational institutions were analyzed. A board of DACUM specialists was assembled to analyze the role of dental coordinators and to develop a practical curriculum. Results: First, after analysis, we selected 8 duties and 34 tasks that should comprise the role of a dental coordinator, and the number of major tasks was 21. Second, the educational program for dental coordinators developed in this study consisted of a total of 60 hours, including 42 hours of lecture and 18 hours of practice. A pre-requisite curriculum and a final curriculum were developed, and the detailed educational contents and supplies were outlined for each subject. Third, after comparing it with the existing clinic coordinator curricula from 20 educational institutions, the curriculum based on DACUM contained 11 additional fields. Conclusions: This study developed a more specialized, detailed, and practical dental coordinator curriculum based on DACUM. It is expected that more dental coordinators could be trained more professionally with this curriculum, and it could lead to further improvement of the curriculum.

Composite resins, commonly used in clinical practice, have been developed to improve aesthetics to obtain smooth surfaces. Although the restored composite resin has a smooth surface, it gradually becomes rough over time. Therefore, this study measured glossiness to evaluate the surface of various composite resins and attempted to evaluate the maintenance of glossiness of composite resins by observing surfaces that change to roughness. Specimens were produced using resin used in clinical practice: Gradia direct anterior (GA), Tetric N-Ceram (TN), Ceram.X Sphere TEC one (CX), Filtek Z350XT (FT), Estelite sigma quick (ES). After creating a smooth surface with slide glass, five locations were randomly selected to measure surface gloss, and the average was the representative value of the specimen. Roughness was applied to the specimen under water pouring at the same speed and pressure using SiC paper #2400, 1200, and 400. The gloss unit of different SiC papers was measured. To evaluate the gloss unit and gloss retention between composite resins, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey multiple comparisons test were used. As a result of the study, there was a difference in gloss unit of specimens produced under the same conditions. Although the degree differed depending on the composite resin, there was also a difference in gloss retention. Based on the findings, composite resins show differences in gloss due to their different characteristics. Ceram.X Sphere TEC one (CX) showing the lowest gloss retention and Estelite sigma quick (ES) showing the highest.

During the medical ultrasound exercise at school, we randomly select parts of the ultrasound device and areas with the most contact in the abdominal phantom to detect bacteria that are above the probe and determine the number of pathogens. I want to find out. The experimental method was rubbed 20 times with the sterilized cotton swab for sterilization and then smeared on Lysogeny broth (LB) agar, put into the incubator and incubated for 48 hours, and the colony forming unit (CFU) count was measured. The bacterial distribution of probe handle and abdominal phantom was evaluated by evaluation. As a result, the CFU value is the lens was $3.0{\pm}0.87$, print button was $5.5{\pm}1.06$, freeze button was $8.0{\pm}4.95$, phantom was $20.0{\pm}2.78$, line was $23.5{\pm}2.50$, and probe handle was measured as $35.3{\pm}10.75$. In this study, it is expected that attention to infection control of equipment during practice during medical ultrasound practice can be highlighted and further contributed to the reduction of bacterial infection rate of ultrasound devices.
Objectives : This study is to grasp the efficacy, locus of control, oral disease management beliefs, etc and to make a close inquiry the relevance between theses key figures and oral health promotion practice for a teacher and oral care about children and to provide the basic materials of oral health education for the teachers of infant nursery. Methods : This study was made from July to September in 2009 to nursery teacher by having the self-report questionnaire for teachers of infant nursery who are performing nursry school tearcher. Total 187 questionnaire were distributed and among these, 167 questionnaire excluding 20 questionnaire of incomplete responses were statistically analyzed with SPSS12.0. Results : The efficacy is highly in a married person(p=0.001) according to the teacher's age(P=0.006), perceived good oral status(p=0.001) according to the oral conditions and has the significant difference. The internal locus of control is highly in a married person(p=0.006) according to the teacher's age(P=0.037) and the marital status and has the significant difference statistically. The external locus of control is the highest(p=0.038) in the age of 40 among teacher's age and has the significant difference statistically. The oral disease management beliefs is the highest in the age of 20 ~ 29(p=0.001), highly in married(p=0.003) and has the significant difference according to the marital status and perceived good oral status(p=0.045) according to the oral conditions. There has no significant difference in the efficacy, the internal locus of control, the external Lotus of Control, oral disease management beliefs following by the infant oral care after taking medicines and oral care of infants after tooth brushing. Conclusions : Therefore, the oral health promotion activities should be induced by educating the nursery teacher and it needs to spread out the oral care education with the development to operate practically. It is considered in need of the infant oral care which is not burden on to the nursery teacher but helpful to the infant by connecting the subjects of dental hygiene and oral health education training.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of perceived stress on dietary habits and oral health behaviors in Korean adolescents. Data were from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBS) in 2011. A total of 74,186 adolescents were surveyed using the self-administered questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were performed to elucidate the effects of perceived stress on dietary habits and oral health behaviors. Statistical analyses were conducted, and p<0.05 were considered significant. We found that adolescents with higher stress were more likely to increase the risk of adverse dietary habits (low consumption of fruits, vegetables and milk, high consumption of carbonated soft drinks, fast food and cookie) compared to those with lower stress. Regarding the relationship between perceived stress and oral health behaviors, adolescents with higher stress were less likely to practice oral health behaviors such as brushing teeth after snack consumption and brushing teeth before sleep compared to those with lower stress. This result indicates that adolescents' perceived stress might play a significant role in the negative dietary habits and oral health behavior.
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the self- perceived stress of high school students on their oral health care and the relationship between stress and oral health care. The subjects in this study were the students in four different high schools located in Chungcheongnam-do, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted. The answer sheets from 939 respondents were analyzed by PASW Statistics ver.18.0 for Windows. The girls were more stressed than the boys about their studies, appearance and material resource, and the sophomores felt more stress about their home and studies. The group whose academic achievement was good in the past semester had the lowest stress about home and material resource, and the group whose economic standard was higher were less stressed about appearance and material resource. As a result of comparing their oral health care by general characteristics, the groups who were sophomores and whose academic achievement was good in the past semester were most excellent in that regard, and the students whose economic standard was higher and whose average weekly allowances were larger took better care of their oral health. Concerning the influential factors for oral health care, stress about peer relationship was positively related, and stress about material resource was negatively related. Given the findings of the study, the development of oral health care programs that include how to relieve stress is required, and more intensive education is necessary as well. Besides, education for school personnel in charge of student health management and the development of related manuals are both required.
Background: The elderly population aged 65 or older in Korea is expected to continue to increase to 18.4% in 2023, and to enter a super-aged society at 20.6% in 2025. In clinical practice, the elderly discrimination of dental hygienists may experience difficulties during dental hygiene treatment due to an increase in the number of elderly patients due to aging, which can lead to maladjustment to work and turnover, so education on the understanding of the elderly is essential for students in the Department of Dentistry, who are prospective dental hygienists. Accordingly, a study was conducted to prepare for a super-aged society by studying the relationship between elderly discrimination and the knowledge and attitudes of the elderly, and to change the curriculum of universities and develop programs related to the elderly. Method: 204 students enrolled in the Department of Dentistry in D area were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. The subject's geriatric discrimination, knowledge about the elderly, and attitude toward the elderly were calculated as the mean and standard deviation. T-test and one-way ANOVA were performed to verify the difference in geriatric discrimination according to the general characteristics of the subject, with a Scheffe' test applied for post-hoc analysis. Correlation analysis was conducted on the subject's geriatric discrimination, knowledge about the elderly, and attitudes toward the elderly. Results: Geriatrics scored 2.03±0.36 out of 4. Knowledge about the elderly was categorized as follows: physical domain 0.57±0.15; social domain 0.36±0.17; and psychological domain 0.35±0.20. The attitude toward the elderly was 3.86±0.27. Knowledge of the elderly averaged 11.27±3.30 points out of 25. The question with the highest percentage of correct answers to knowledge about the elderly was 'physical strength tends to decrease with age', which was 93.1%. The attitude toward the elderly according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed significant differences in gender (p=0.040), age (p=0.026), and life experience with grandparents (p=0.001). The elderly discrimination of the study subjects showed a negative correlation in both attitude and knowledge toward the elderly, and among the elderly discrimination, there was a high positive correlation with regard to emotional avoidance (r=.892, p<0.001). Conclusion: College students are the leading players in caring for the elderly and are directly affected by aging social problems. Therefore, it is considered necessary to apply various programs in the state, society, and educational institutions to avoid negative prejudices that lead to positive thinking and discrimination against the elderly.
The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of people in general characteristics about oral malodor. The subjects in this study are 184 people who visited the clinical practice lab at J health college to get their teeth scaled. After conducting a survey from May 1 to June 3, 2008, we selected four different ares and then analyzed the answer sheets from 179 respondents including smoking/nonsmoking, scaling experience, toothbrushing frequency and the use of oral hygiene supplies. SPSS WIN 12.0 program was used to make a frequency analysis and cross analysis. The findings of the study are as follows: 1. Concerning an intention of treatment for oral malodor, 37.4% didn't intend to receive treatment even in case of having bad breath. 28.5% didn't yet have any definite idea about that, and 20.7% had no mind to do that at all. 10.6% had an intention to receive treatment, and 2.8% want to receive treatment. 2. As for how to cope with oral malodor in case of suffering from it, 47.5% chewed gums or ate candy. 25.1% scarcely care about that, and 15.6% covered their mouth whenever they spoke. 9.5% had little confidence about talking to others, and 2.2% found it difficult to build an amicable interpersonal relationship. 3. Concerning what to do about another person's oral malodor, 40.8% did nothing, and 19% talked to the person about that. 17.3% gave him or her chewing gum. Among their oral health characteristics, toothbrushing frequency made a significant difference to the way they responded to another person's oral malodor(p<.05). 4. As to subjective feelings about another person's oral malodor, 41.9% just found it bearable. 36.9% were a little displeased, and 9.5% never felt bad about another person's bad breath. 8.9% tried to avoid the person, and 2.8% advised him or her to chew gum. 5. Regarding an intention of participating in a oral malodor program, 46.9% had no idea about that. 31.3% intended to participate in the program, and 13.4% wanted to do that without fail. 6.1% had no mind for that, and 2.2% were never going to do that. Among characteristics of the user oral hygiene device made a significant difference whether to participating in the oral malodor program(p<.05).
