Methods: This study included 24,833 high school students who participated in the screening and health survey in the "17th (2021) Adolescent Health Behavior Survey." SPSS software (SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0; IBM) was used for statistical analysis. Multiple sample logistic regression analysis was performed. The significance level was set to 0.05. Results: The result of the analysis on the effect of mental health revealed that oral symptom experience was low in students without depression and suicidal thoughts. Oral symptom experience was high in students with stress perception. Additionally, the experience of oral symptoms was low when there was sufficient subjective sleep. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to develop a customized oral health education program for early detection of oral symptoms and oral health promotion in high school students. Furthermore, it suggests the need for strategies and continuous oral health guidance to practice proper oral health habits to maintain healthy oral conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in health belief related to vaccination among dental hygiene students, identify the factors affecting hepatitis B vaccination, and provide basic data for health education concerning hepatitis B prevention. Hepatitis B vaccination was positively correlated (r=0.179, p=0.003) with seriousness of believing that hepatitis B would affect psychological, physical, and social activities and negative correlation (r=-0.183, p=0.002) was also found between perceived barriers related to hepatitis B. As for the factors affecting hepatitis B vaccination, juniors were 0.39 times (95% confidence interval [CI]=0.21, 0.71) more likely to have it affected than seniors and those who were more serious, and who had greater barriers were more likely to have it affected-1.80 times (95% CI=1.29, 2.52), 0.61 times (95% CI=0.41, 0.90) respectively (p<0.05). It is therefore urgent to develop a program within a curriculum that can begin with freshmen along with specific education with the objective of obliging dental hygiene students to receive hepatitis B vaccination. It is also necessary to provide consecutive sessions of education rather than one-time education and to develop a specific plan for obligatory hepatitis B vaccination through correct and thorough education.

Total 210 copies of questionnaire were retrieved and 201 copies were used as materials for the final analysis excluding 9 copies with insincere replies. Results : 1. The total average grade for self-esteem of study objects was 32.83(${\pm}3.08$) points. The total average of intention of transfer was found to be 32.91(${\pm}7.50$) points. 2. Self-esteem by satisfaction on the current workplaces was shown to be high with 'very satisfactory'(p=0.028), which has significant difference statistically (p<0.05). 3. In the intention of transfer by general characteristics, 20-25 years ($35.15{\pm}7.17$) was higher than over 40 years old ($23.44{\pm}3.47$) by age to show significant difference statistically (p=0.000). As for married status, single ($34.42{\pm}6.64$) was found to have higher intention of transfer than married ($30.28{\pm}8.11$), which showed significant difference statistically (p=0.018). As for the education background, 3 year course college graduates ($33.49{\pm}7.25$) showed more intention of transfer than over undergraduate students ($22.75{\pm}9.43$) to show significance statistically (p=0.002) and in the working years 1~3 years ($34.40{\pm}7.07$) was found to have more intention of transfer than over 10 years ($25.13{\pm}5.08$) to be significant statistically (p=0.000). The annual income less than 25 million won ($34.10{\pm}6.54$) showed more intention of transfer than over 40 million won ($21.00{\pm}0.00$) (p=0.000). 4. Intention of transfer by satisfaction of current workplaces was found to be high in 'very unsatisfactory', which showed significant difference statistically (p<0.001). 5. Pure correlation between self-esteem and intention of transfer came into existence and intention of transfer was found to be higher as self-esteem is higher. Conclusions : Through results as above, intention of transfer of dental hygienists was found to be higher as self-esteem is higher. Various follow-up studies which are to perform empirical verification by analyzing various factors which can affect intention of transfer based on this and using them as control variables are thought to be tried.

To collect data, convenience sampling of college students in North Jeolla Province was performed, and they were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire from May 1 to 30, 2017. Dental fear was negatively correlated with both psychological hardiness and subjective well-being, and psychological hardiness and subjective well-being were positively correlated with each other. University students' dental fear, psychological hardiness, and subjective well-being were found to be correlated with one another; therefore, dental clinics need to apply a positive style of coping, taking into account psychological responses suitable for clinical competence on the basis of satisfactory communication, with the objective of promoting oral health.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate a correlation among oral hygiene habits, dryness of mouth, and self-perceived oral malodor and therefore to find out self-care methods which could be a help to reduce oral malodor. Methods: A survey of 296 dental undergraduate students of School of Dentistry, Pusan National University, who wrote consents voluntarily and participated in this study, was conducted using a questionnaire consisting of 17 questions and analyzed to investigate a correlation among oral hygiene habits (frequency of tooth brushing, water gargling, and drinking water, etc.), dryness of mouth indicating the amount of salivary secretion, and self-perceived oral malodor. Results: There was no significant correlation between mechanical cleaning factors and self-perceived oral malodor. The factor showing a strong correlation with severe self-perceived oral malodor was dryness of mouth (p=0.000). Conclusions: There was no correlation between mechanical cleaning habits and self-perceived oral malodor. Participants who felt self-perceived oral malodor more tended to have rather good mechanical cleaning habits. The factor showing a strong correlation with severe self-perceived oral malodor was dryness of mouth. Therefore trying to increase salivary secretion is considered to be a help to reduce self-perceived halitosis.
